  1. Yes but we had 4 guys awarded scholarships who counted towards this class, ie Kaydon Kirby, Blake Macek, Skip Caldwell and Kenny Buyers. The rule says that if you haven't been in school for two years then they will count to your first signing class of the year.

Skip! Didn't factor him in. I never saw anything that said we put him on scholarship. Do you know when he was put on scholarship?
  2. I trust Brett, but I just still don't get this scholarship situation. With the 3 grayshirting we should have 3 spots left. 19 signees and 3 walkons count in this class. Why only 1 scholarship left? I don't know why it wouldn't be 3, since that's how many short of 25 we are. Not to mention we have 63 scholarship players on campus right now, to my knowledge, and we signed 14 more today (5 already on campus) who will arrive in the fall.

That would put us at 77 total projected scholarship players for fall. So we have 8 left there, and 3 left in our class cap of 25. Why only 1 left?

  3. The listed offers on the major recruiting services out to our signees. Going to count Caleb Chumley even though he appears to be grayshirting, thus would count towards next year's signing class. Offers may not have all been committable when these guys committed to us, but they were offered by these P5 (formerly BCS) schools at some point.

    P5 offers

    -Colorado (Tee Goree)

    -Iowa State (Fonzale Davis)

    -Missouri (Caleb Chumley)

    -Oregon State (Caleb Chumley)

    -Kansas (Caleb Chumley)

    -Indiana (Jalen Adams)

    -Iowa (Andrew Jones)

    -Purdue (Brandon Garner)

Not to mention OU came knocking late with Andrew Jones and Arkansas expressed late interest in Tee Goree. Maybe more schools not publicized, not just with them but with the other commits.

A few other notable schools we beat out for multiple players

    -Toledo (Fonzale Davis, Willy Ivery)

-Colorado State (Tee Goree, Willy Ivery, Fonzale Davis)

    -Nevada (Chris Miles, Fonzale Davis)

-San Diego State (Chris Miles, Tee Goree)

    -Houston (Caleb Chumley, Chris Miles)

    -Memphis (Tee Goree, Caleb Chumley)

-La Tech (Tee Goree, Caleb Chumley)

Offer lists are right up there with film for me as far as what is most important when looking at recruits. I personally value offer lists above film because I trust D1 coaches scouting abilities over my own. Although we all know some guys inevitably get overlooked. I don't discredit star ratings either, just below those 2 for me. Great class according to all 3!

  4. so he is not grey shirting??

About 90% sure he would sign today whether he grayshirts or not. I think grayshirts sign during their normal signing day, just get their enrollments pushed back.

Edit: not as sure about that. MGS didn't report Shaq Jackson and Johnavahn Graham's NLIs. Maybe they are grayshirting and Chumley is not.

  5. For those who really dislike the star system, Miles may be your guy. I'd say it's a shame he's not a 3-star (1 point shy on 247 at a 79), but it doesn't matter in the end. He's got big-time size, film, and offer list. Check it out. One of the best offer lists of our o-line signees in a while. 12+ offers from schools from across the country, from the Pacific coast (San Diego State) all the way to the Atlantic coast (Yale and Harvard). Glad he settled on a school in between.

  6. Sekou Clark signs with Vanderbilt, Tyrone Williams with Prairie View and J.T. Williams with Southern Mississippi.

Beat me to it on Clark. Vandy lost a lot of commits after Franklin left, and they started scrambling like crazy. Good luck to Clark there.

Also, Southern Miss has been signing quality d-linemen. No surprise, but they'll be tough competition in the West in upcoming years.

  7. Sorry, not a fax. But a vine of our Carthage boys signing/getting ready to sign. Courtesy of the awesome Gabe Brooks. Also, if Fortenberry was the only grayshirt then we may only sign 22 this year (including the walkons, FBS transfer, grayshirt, JUCOs, and high school guys) if Chumley, Jackson, and Graham all end up grayshirting and we don't get any surprise signees today. A surprise signee or two would be nice, as would be bringing in one or two of those three grayshirting guys in a semester early for fall camp, but however many under 25 we sign this year, we can go over by that many next year.

  8. SIAP, but Tee Goree cracked the Rivals Texas Postseason Top 100 for 2014. The last guy we had make that list was Riley Dodge 6 years ago in 2008, and before that was Jamario Thomas in 2004. That was 10 years ago. That makes Tee not just our third player in the last 10 years, but in the 12 years of the Rivals Texas Postseason Top 100 (dates back to 2003) we have only had those three make that list.

And he had crazy production on his way to leading Carthage to a state championship as a legitimate 6'2" barefoot (according to BigDanTeague) receiver. Again, whether you emphasize stars, rankings, film, offer list, high school production, or character most, this is a great class.
