Yeah, but 7 of those 8 will be seniors, so not much reason to transfer. Especially considering only 1 of those 7 has graduated, so the other 6 can't use the graduate transfer rule for inmediate eligibility elsewhere. And the 1 who has graduated already used that rule to transfer here (Gaines). Then the only non-senior of those 8 is Maurice Aniefiok, who will be a 4th year junior and who is at his 3rd college, so I'd imagine he just wants to settle here.If you're basing returns on passing grades, I wouldn't recommend holding your breath on all 8 of those 'returning' players actually returning.
Can't completely exclude the possibility of transfers, but they just wouldn't make sense from those returners.

Who plays the nose in huddle 2? Moore or Watson? Sounds like they're both pretty good, but at they're size they'd probably be better suited at the 3-tech than at nose. But at least one of them will likely have to play nose out of necessity, unless Sir Calvin can turn things around. The starters will be Brown, Mason, Orr and Lincoln. Second line will be Polk, Roberts, Watson, Moore. Possible playing time and maybe a lot for freshman Johnson.
-
Yup. Akunne has one of the most impressive size and speed combos on the team. I think he ran a 4.5 (probably not laser) and is up over 240. He certainly looks like it when he plays as well, so it isn't fool's gold. A big senior year and he could get on some NFL teams' radars.I hope Akunne is ready to step up and be a vocal leader of the defense now. He's been in Zach's shadow his whole career... time to shine Derek!
Also, really excited to see Garner in the fall. Maybe won't have the size to be an every-down linebacker, and we won't need him to be, but he could absolutely be a weapon on 3rd down. With his coverage skills (was offered as a safety by Purdue) and his blitzing skills (10 sacks last year as an lb) he could be used in different ways.
-
The thing about Moore over Wallace at DT, is that you'd be asking Moore to play nose, and he only weighs about 250 lbs on the roster. That's tough for a 3-technique at that weight, let alone a nose. But I am excited about Moore. Loved his film.I agree for the most part, but I might go with Orr or Moore over Wallace at DT and I think Warner will be there before Evans at safety.
Warner may start over Evans, but it'd be surprising to me if Warner started out with the 1s. At least at the beginning of spring, since he was injured all last year.

This is just totally and completely false. You've been to every game this year, per the official attendance.Bought season tickets (which I still don't know why) but haven't been to a game yet this season.

First of all, thanks for the response Harry. One thing I'd say about corner is that I could see the coaches giving Chad Davis a shot in James Jones' spot. Whitfield and Buyers both have played on the far side of the field thus far in their careers, and Jones plays on the short side. I could see Davis starting out over their, even though Whitfield has more experience. Although they could try Whitfield on the short side.
That'll be interesting to watch, as will be offensive and defensive tackle. Is A Johnson out? And would they start Sir Calvin, despite the workout reviews, or are we reading into them too much?

Who goes out with huddle 1 first in team drills? Taking into account players out with injury. Notable guys out at least for the beginning of the spring include James Jones, Austin Orr, Reggie Pegram, and probably a few more. Can't confirm who exactly will be out or limited for spring.

From Chad Davis' high school. Really hope we're going strong after this kid. If we could pull him or Larry Hughes we could have a legitimate left tackle of the future. Both are 6'7" and we're the first to offer Hughes and, since we're the second to offer Jones, hopefully we can get a big lead on either of them before the big schools come in. Akamnonu would be as well, but K-State would be really tough to beat out and I'm sure he has more offers to come.
We really don't have a true left tackle on our roster once Antonio Johnson graduates.
This is our 9th o-line offer, I believe. I think we have 8 d-line offers, so pretty safe to say we are working the trenches this class, as we should.

#SMU has offered Midland Christian OL Johnny Wilson. Also holds an offer from #UNT. #PonyUp #GMG

Pay article on Holmes, by Gabe Brooks. Our boy Gabe is trying to drop us hints, guys ($).

Yeah, I mean, it's just an early offer. I wish our coaches would be quicker at pulling the trigger with guys like this. It's an uphill battle recruiting against these high-caliber schools. But when you're coming in and offering after they already have, you better hope the kid gives us a chance and absolutely falls in love with us. Or else, even more slim of a chance than before. One would think he's a bit over our head Billy at this point. What are your thoughts??
That's why I love that we were first to offer guys like Larry Hughes and Kenneth Mann.
But we'll see. Maybe Moore does give us a chance. I just wouldn't hold my breath on it.

#TTHL LB Richard Moore (@xRichManex) adds a new offer. #UNT has joined the race. #MeanGreen

Linebacker from Cedar Hill. Not much over 6' 200 lbs. The fact that he has such a good offer list at his size speaks to the type of player he is. Really wished we would've gotten in on this kid earlier. Especially after watching him play early in the state title game. Not holding my breath at this point, but we'll see how it plays out.

What's your outlook towards next year's team? With 8 players back, including 4 starters (Alzee Williams the lone graduating starter), as well all of our posts back, and the potential additions of Wesley, Combs, Deandre Harris, Carrington Ward, and another player. Likely a JUCO PG.Yes his 2-3 zone is a failure. Like I said before those who cant defend in man go to a zone in order to mask their weakness, but it doesn't matter. If you cant play defense then you cant play it there is no masking it. We have trouble with defensive rotation and help defense. A good ball movement team can easily shred a zone.
Last year was a huge disappointment and let down. It was part bad coaching and bad luck. Not many teams faced the injury plague that we did. Hard to get any kind of momentum rolling.
His ability to get production out of the big's has been the biggest let down in terms of development. Our guard play hasn't been great, but its been a lot better than last year.
You still have to hold your breath on all the players making it in, as that has been a major problem during the Benford era. Especially with a couple of those incoming guys having some grade hiccups in the past. But next year could be Benny's first full roster of 13 scholarship players eligible and healthy.

Sorge is my pick to click this year. He was on the travel squad and he definitely looks the part. As does my boy Truss. He has the strength and the size to really be a good one. Really pulling for him to put it together this spring. Proud of him either way, but I want to see him putting dudes on the grass.

Good to know. Pulling a guy from South Tennessee away from Ole Miss would be tough even if we were doing well. Not sure if he is Ole Miss bound, just assuming, which isn't always the best thing to do.He's not showing much interest , best bet is probably Jovan Austin from Paris JC

Exactly. But getting a big man this late in the process, you'd be lucky to get someone as productive as Colin Voss. Not saying that's the absolute best post we could get, but it's just hard with so many good guys off the board at this point. And that's getting a good 4 (power forward). Getting a quality center with legitimate center size would be quite the rabbit pull out of the hat.I though Hank made a pretty telling statement before the game, basically that our lack of production from the big men has been the issue for us throughout this season. So while I. know we also need a point guard, isn't a more pressing need to get a big defender and rebounder?
So last season we didn't have enough guys that could shoot; now we added shooters but we have nothing in the paint, no rebounding etc...
I am starting to question the personnel gameplan and results. What is the game plan for recruiting? Next year you add Combs, Wesley and Ward...that isn't going to address the lack of big men (rebounding) and point guard that has plagued this team this year.

Cooley, or ask NT03. We just offered a JUCO pg from Tennessee named Dequon Miller. I think he holds an offer from Ole Miss as well, and he has pretty good stats. I don't think he's playing great competition, but his stats are impressive nonetheless. He is only 5'10" though.I'm just wandering what we will get. We need a PG and preferably a young one. I'm nervous it will be another JUCO player. I am not one for knowledge of recruits though. It does not seem that there is much left but that is a question for someone like Cooley I suppose.

I don't think a transfer senior would be such a good idea. Then we'd have 8 seniors on next year's roster.I guess we take what we can get. We will land a PG but I have no idea who... Or if this player will be any good. Maybe we can get lucky and snag a Vaughn's type. Transfer senior. Who knows. We need a PG next season and a Bigs the next.
-
Yeah, they're solid. But Wilms is only averaging 5 points, 3 rebounds, and 0.7 blocks a game. Don't get me wrong, he is a stud. But it's not like he's been averaging 14, 8, and 3 blocks a game like he got today.I don't think anyone in the league will have much luck against UTEP big men for the next 3 years.
-
Not looking good on either fronts.Recruiting kids here is one thing...what is he going to do once they are here...teach them to go 16 for 66???
-
Of course he won't be a long-term solution. But we need him to somehow be a go-to option his senior year. Basically, asking for Ward to be a semi miracle of a signee. If he isn't, then we will need a freshman or new guy to be our go-to guy.Ward will be a Junior so he is not going to be a long term solution. Hopefully we can find a guy like Jordan next season. A inside and out kind of player with good size.
Again, I've talked about this way too much today. We need Benford to do something in recruiting that he has not been close to doing so far here. And with a lot of pitches no longer existing to pitch to kids, with our string of successful seasons, the novelty of changing conference, and Tony Mitchell all gone.

I think Tauaalo may have even more potential at the 3-tech, but we need his size at the nose right now. Should be fun to watch.
