  1. What about Chad Reese of Tyler? (Wyoming transfer)

Has he changed his mind? Is he not at spring practice because he didn't get a scholarship offer and would have to pay his way? It appears that he could contribute with his final year of eligibility in 2015.

Not sure. I don't think he was going to be here for this semester. Thought he was planning on walking on in the fall.

That article, and tweet, is from late January. Which was after the start of the semester. May have just decided to wait to enroll until fall.

  2. 2 questions:

    1. Will they be coming in on scholarship?

    2. Did they play at Blinn?

It doesn't appear so. If they in fact didn't, they may be eligible able to play this year as redshirt sophomores. Although if Jordan Richmond has to sit out, they may also have to as well.

If they're coming in on scholarship, we may have as many as 8 spots in the 2015 class filled up. Between Jordan Richmond (DE/LB), Sam Rice (OL), Blake Bean (LB), Rashad and Vershad Jackson (DBs), as well as grayshirts Shaq Jackson (DT), Jon Graham (DL), and Caleb Chumley (QB). Not 100% sure if Bean or Rice are coming in on scholarship. Also, Dan Kottman has been reported by Vito as walking on.

  3. Good question. He's bounced around from what I can tell. He was at A. Maceo Smith where his dad was the head coach, transferred to Trinity for a while, then onto L.D. Bell. He committed to O.U. then switched to Michigan near signing day. Here's his Rivals page:

Apparently Barnett and Anthony Wallace are friends, according to this article. But this kid has bounced around more than a pinball. 5 different high schools, committed to OU and Arkansas before signing with Michigan. Not sure where he was the past few years.

Also, pretty sure he was at LD Bell before Trinity. I was a senior the same year as Barnett, and Trinity was the team that knocked us out in the 3rd round my junior and senior year. I remember seeing that he had transferred to Trinity for our senior year and thinking "dang, now that have him!" Although he didn't actually end up playing that year. Definitely a physical specimen, though.

Fwiw, A Maceo Smith got closed down for bad test grades.

  4. Haha, Shaka Smart to North Texas. We would have to fold shop in about 4 or 5 minor sports to think about being able to afford him. He would go to a major P5 team before any of that took place. He built VCU so that's why he is happy at VCU.

Actually, Anthony Grant is the one who built them up. Shaka has taken them to the next level and made them more of a perennial mid-major power, but he took over a good situation when Grant left for Alabama.
  5. Love the jacks! I would go get their coach or the VCU coach. We have to be legit in the two power sports. There is no downtime for an ad or chance to rest in your success. Grab some coffee Rick and get to work!!!!!

    GMG

VCU's coach has been one of the hottest commodities in college hoops for the past few years or so. If he leaves VCU, it would be for a marquee program. Which he already has done, turning down both Illinois and UCLA.

But SFA. Really fun to watch, all year. Except when they played us. They should give UCLA a good game as well.

  6. His Dad, Kerry, signed with UNT.....and played here 1 year I think. He transferred to TTech, when Jerry Moore left UNT to take that job.

Very good info. Thank you for that.

Looks like our third tight end offer this class. By the time this class gets to campus we are projected to have three senior scholarship tight ends. I'm sure the coaches would like a guy or two to groom for a year before those guys leave.

I could see us getting 2 tight ends: a run blocking specialist (a la Reinhardt or A Power) and more of a receiving threat. This Tecklenburg kid, along with Connor Williams from Coppell, would fit the bill of the former and the Herndon kid we just offered and/or Caleb Chumley, if QB doesn't work out, would be the receiving threats at tight end. Not saying we get all or any of these kids, or even that we have for sure offered them at tight end. Just speculation based on what our coaches like, our roster, and these kids' films.
