  1. The new enrollment numbers are out and UNT now has over 37,000 students. Our athletic department has done an outstanding job of engaging the students since coach Mac arrived. With these kinds of numbers don't be surprised if the Mean Green Nation starts swelling as these kids graduate.
  2. USM - MSU rematch in HoD Bowl Could their walk through the wilderness be near an end?
  3. But there are calls of nepotism and the messages boards are fuming as the son of our OL coach, Mack Leftwich, gets the QB job. To be fair, it has been a heated competition between 4 decent QBs and Coach Kugler has worked hard in the off season to put some new wrinkles into our two dimensional offense. Last year it was run, run, run and make a pass occasionally. This year we'll see a Wild Cat offense and there should be a more developed passing attack. Our optimistic fans believe that Coach Kugler has some tricks up his sleeve and others think that we'll see a plain vanilla running game, like last year. If you think UTEP is going to stomped, or not, you can join our prediction thread and win a $50 gift Certificate at the UTEP bookstore. Predict the score. About UTEPs QB battle.
  4. A Sunbelt press conference on Tuesday will announce the addition of Coastal Carolina. Looks like they beat out Eastern Kentucky for the slot. Very good addition.
  5. Pretty close IMO. The top three match up pretty good and question marks in both divisions after that. Marshall WKU MT VS. LA Tech Rice UTEP ODU is transitioning from the Heinicke era so we'll see how that goes. With some positive news regarding the defense out of camp and some solid weapons remaining at RB &WR I'm hopeful we can maintain the competitiveness level from last year. We finished .500 in conference but each of those four wins were decided by a last minute feildgoal. On the other side of that equation FAU lost 4 games last year by a fieldgoal. They were a better team than the results show and I think either FL team could have a good year if they can bring it together. Charlotte's probably not there yet and play the whipping boy this season. In the west USM fans are feeling confident they'll make some noise this year. I wish them well, they're certainly due but does improvement mean 5 wins? Bowl game? In the top of the west? Trouncing Miss St? I'm excited to find out. I honestly don't know much about UTSA or UNT's situation but I'll take the fact that we're not hearing too much crowing from them to mean they're not expecting much or at least taking a wait and see approach. It may be that Eastern bias but I think the east takes the title and ends stronger top to bottom. But again it's close. And sadly I think UAB would have pushed the west if not for He Who Must Not Be Named.

  7. I don't know how this will affect those of you with DISH for games this fall. Hopefully it will get resolved soon or you can pull out the old rabbit ears. https://www.yahoo.com/tv/s/dish-loses-12...31328.html
  8. Said on his Instagram, Tyrell Tomlin will join Marshall. He is a former class of 2014 player 4-star coming out of HS and the 16th ranked ILB in the class. He was recently ruled ineligible at UNC. He played in 10 games last season as a freshman. So, he will have 3 years to play 3 after sitting out.
  9. http://247sports.com/Player/Quentin-Jackson-33517 247 ranks him a 4 star with a national ranking of 109. Held 27 offers including Tennessee, Iowa State, Temple, Miss. State, Kansas State, Houston, UCF, and more. Tomorrow we host a 4 star power forward, John Fulkerson. The Mark Price brand seems to be carrying some weight and Charlotte is for real. We have a lot of solid players with legit offers considering us. Can't wait to see Coach Price's guys actually take the court. Not sure what to expect this season, but he has me feeling good about the future.
  10. Our ticket office now directing fans to the Charlotte ticket site where there are still tickets available. Charlotte fans better get buying or there will be 5,000 Marshall fans in your stadium.
  11. The Texas Longhorns have added the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs to their 2019 football schedule, the school announced today. Texas will host Louisiana Tech at Darrell K Royal – Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin on Aug. 31, 2019. The game will be the season-opener and the first-ever meeting on the gridiron between the two schools. As a result of adding Louisiana Tech, the Longhorns have moved their previously scheduled game vs. USF on the same date to Sept. 5, 2020. Both the addition of LA Tech and the USF change are dependent on approval from the UT System Board of Regents. Louisiana Tech now has three non-conference games set for 2019. The Bulldogs also travel to Bowling Green on Sept. 14 and later host UMass on Oct. 19. http://www.fbschedules.com/2015/08/texas...-schedule/
  12. UNT will open fall practice in a matter of days, another key milestone leading up to the Mean Green’s season opener at SMU on Sept. 12. Just a year ago, UNT was on a roll heading into its 2014 opener off a 9-4 finish and a win over UNLV in the Heart of Dallas Bowl. The Mean Green couldn’t maintain the momentum that season provided and crashed to a 4-8 finish. So what does UNT need to do to get back on track? Here’s a look at five key challenges the Mean Green face. 1. Solve the quarterback issue. UNT found out just how important Heart of Dallas Bowl MVP Derek Thompson was to its team last season, when the Mean Green struggled mightily to replace him. Thompson threw for 2,896 yards and 16 touchdowns with a passing efficiency rating of 133.6 in 2013. UNT never came close to filling the void Thompson left while running through three starters in 2014. Those three players combined to throw for 2,073 yards and 13 touchdowns with a passing efficiency rating of 112.4. Andrew McNulty started the last six games of the 2014 campaign after UNT started Josh Greer and Dajon Williams for three games each. McNulty is back and enters fall practice as UNT’s starter after a solid spring. He will have to hold off JUCO transfer DaMarcus Smith in what figures to be a head-to-head showdown for the starting job. UNT’s hopes to improve as a team in 2015 will rest largely on McNulty or Smith showing that they can get the Mean Green’s offense rolling. UNT scored 21 or fewer points in seven games last season. read more: http://meangreenblog.dentonrc.com/2015/07/five-things-unt-must-to-do-improve-in-2015.html/
  13. If you are a season ticket holder or club member you ought to have the right to speak your mind. You are basically a stockholder.
  14. The stadium will sell out when the board and prez decide they want it to. Heck give extra credit and you would have a line of students to Corinth.
  15. BOCA RATON, Fla. — Western Kentucky sixth-year senior quarterback Brandon Doughty said he's "Grandpa Brandon" around the program. Senior linebacker Nick Holt joked that Doughty has been in college for 20 years. Doughty said it feels more "like 36 years." But this year is Doughty's final go-around – for real this time. "WKU is on the up and coming right now, and I'm really excited to see where our program goes after I leave this place," Doughty said Wednesday at Conference USA Football Media Day at the Boca Raton Resort & Club. "Hopefully I leave. I promise this is the last one." Opposing coaches and players are glad this is truly the last year for Doughty, too. Last season's league MVP and this season's preseason offensive player of the year is back for one more run after receiving a medical hardship waiver from the NCAA in December, stemming from two season-ending knee injuries earlier in his career. After leading the nation in passing yards and touchdowns last year, Doughty figures to be a nightmare for the competition again. "They've got a quarterback who could play for the majority of the teams in the country, if not all of them," North Texas coach Dan McCarney said. "He's that good. I've been on teams with Heisman Trophy winners. I've coached against Heisman Trophy winners. You know when really outstanding, special guys are there." read more: http://www.bgdailynews.com/sports/wku/c-usa-coaches-heap-praise-on-doughty-wku-offense/article_e4bf632e-e928-51fd-b9d7-fd47abf798f2.html
  16. When Derek Elrod was rushing a fraternity at the University of North Texas (UNT) in the fall of 2013, he was having, as he puts it, “the time of my life.” The brothers at the fraternity of his first choice, Sigma Phi Epsilon (SigEp), were surprisingly warm and welcoming. Elrod — a transfer and commuter student — hadn’t spent much time on campus, but after hanging around with the SigEp guys, he finally felt like he found the big social opportunity he had been craving. “I was on top of the world,” he recalled. “It was extremely inviting and friendly. I met so many people I thought were really nice people. The feeling was just like, ‘how did I not know that this existed?’ It felt like this was UNT’s greatest secret.” So when Elrod finally got an offer to join SigEp on bid day, September 7, 2013, he was thrilled. It was a raucous event. Members of Greek life and other UNT students rallied inside the football stadium, donning bright facepaint, chanting, and waving fraternity flags in the air. Elrod was gifted a turquoise SigEp T-shirt and crouched in a group photo with the other pledges, smiling and holding up a peace sign. After the ceremony, the new SigEp pledges made their way to the fraternity house to celebrate. That’s when, for Elrod, the joyous atmosphere took a sharp turn. According to police reports obtained by ThinkProgress, Elrod called 911 around 3 p.m. to report hazing, telling UNT police that SigEp’s then-President, Richard Randall, forced pledges to drink straight vodka and, according to the report, “complete countless push-ups” in a room inside the fraternity house. In a written statement to UNT police, Elrod also identified student Kenneth Grunden as having been involved in the process. Grunden did not respond to request for comment from ThinkProgress. At that point, Elrod, who had been diagnosed in 2005 with a permanent medical condition involving abnormal nervous system functions, began to panic. 19. Conference USA commissioner says if UAB reverses decision on football, Blazers will thrive Conference USA Commissioner Britton Banowsky said he hopes Alabama-Birmingham reinstates football, and if it happens, predicts a UAB program that has long thirsted for fan and media attention would be overwhelmed with both. “I think UAB has a chance of becoming a real strong Cinderella brand nationally,” Banowsky said. “There’s been so much national attention paid to UAB that they would have brand equity right out of the gate. “People would root for them coast to coast. People like to see the underdog rise up.” UAB announced on Dec. 2 that it would shut down its football program because the program was losing too much money. The announcement led to an angry backlash from students, alumni and even some state officials. There have been heated protests calling for the dismissal of UAB President Ray Watts, who has been pilloried by fans in the social media. The decision has received broad coverage nationally and has been widely criticized by many national sports columnists. Banowsky and other league officials have largely been silent on UAB's decision since Dec. 2. Banowsky criticized the decision then, saying he thought it was a mistake, but has otherwise said little about UAB. However, Banowsky spoke at length about UAB Thursday afternoon, saying he’s been heartened by the outpouring of support for football there.
