That explains it! I looking forward to see how the team responds at home.

Apple and oranges! Ok, but....... K-State beat, Lamar 79-55, we beat them 74-59. I am not excusing the lost to the D2 team, by any stretch.

I respect your opinion about Coach Benford, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Agree, with the majority of your comments. However, I do think he can coach. IMO, give the guy more than 3 games. Looking forward to catching a few of games in early December.

Now, that's what I call, a basketball video! Much, appreciation!

For what it is worth. I posted this back in May: I watched Marquette a couple of times on tv, the game i watched, they scored alot of points, off pressure defense, in other words their guards and wings, forced alot of turnovers on defense, which led to quick fastbreak transition points. The offense was a motion, spread type offense, this is not a slow, ugly, offense. imo. We have the athletes to play this style of ball, when needed. PS. That's assuming, Benford runs the same system. -
Good analogy!

Unbelievable! Maybe we can forward this article, to the writer, this just might give him, a better perspective. 2012 LeBron James Skills Academy: Top College Prospects Top 5 Prospects Tony Mitchell1. Tony Mitchell6’8.5/236 7’3 (Dallas, TX) North Texas -- Mitchell was easily the top prospect in the event. He's an absolute beast and he took his aggression out on the rim on multiple occasions. He also had some jaw dropping rebounds in which he went way above the rim to bring the ball down. He's similar to Thomas Robinson (almost identical measurements) in that he has a chiseled physique and loves to play physical in the paint. He's also got excellent versatility with the ability to knock down mid range shots and also pass the ball. One scout told me he had Mitchell top 15 had he entered the 2012 draft. He could duplicate T-Rob with a monster sophomore season (he redshirted as a FR) and be taken as high as 5th overall.

Thanks! for clarifying.

I respect your opinion, and agree with parts of it, however, you lost me on this statement: "to succeed in his job than what I'd ideally like to see from our school." ?
-
I respect your opinion, but, like you said before, "reasonable people can disagree". Put me in the disagree, column. Also, IMO, I do not think, you are given these recruits, enough credit. They are more aware, than you, may think.

Coach Benford seems to be working hard, on and off the court. Reaching out to former players. I love it! -

IMO, i do not think Benford, will try to win at all cost. Since, he was hired, all indicators, is that he has a solid reputation. However, I do believe he and staff, wants UNT basketball, to be a force, now, and after Mr. Mitchell leaves for the NBA. It's a delicate balance, but you have to upgrade your team, with talent. Generally, if you are not in the playing rotation, you need to be worried, about your scholarship. If I am a player, not in the rotation, i am looking for other opportunities, to play. The reality is most guys, that are not in the rotation, have few options, unless they go D-II or lower. You only get this opportunity, once in your life. -
Agree, concerning the bench players comment (I think you need a rotation of at least 7-9 players, that can bring it), however, I would also like to believe, that although Tony is not the coach, he did give an opinion, about this guys, potential. He did play against him. Every bit of info, helps, with scouting these recruits.

UNT's Tony Benford: Chance of a lifetime
meangreenfan65 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Basketball
IMO, coaches, or for that matter, any person, in any walk of life, do not find success by accident. Nice article! -
Put my vote in for, the latter. We've been under the radar, long enough!

IMO, i think there are only a handful of great X's and O's coaches, on the college level. You could probably say this about most sports. I think there are alot of other intangibles to coaching, such as, recruiting, ability to motivate, relationships with players, etc. Whether, Benford is a great X's and O's coach...time will tell. IMO, i think most top assistant coaches, that land their first gig, are proven recruiters and have won at their respective programs. Normally, the unknown, is to prove they can coach, X's and O's. So....i will reserve my judgement, for what happens on the court. Really looking forward, to this season!
