Guys, the PLAYERS are playing the game tonight.  Not us fat bellies with keyboards.  Cognitive dissonance can be a great strategy but we all know the truth.  It’s ok to talk about.

That said, @UNTLifer just inspired me to feel real kumbaya towards you all so I hope no one feels any hurt or sadness about the truth.  On the real though, did love what you said Lifer.

I would just say this about the story. It's another case of a news station being assholes. I know they could care less about North Texas but a group of chicken shits that have to try and break a story the night before we play for a Championship game is BS

Yes very trashy.  Lots of their fans’ disappointment about the hire is even more salt in the wound.  Such is life though.

I had to record the game and ignore my phone until now due to a prior commitment. What a comeback. I thought the offensive foul on Perry, kick out, was a game changer and complete bullshit. Curling off a screen, some times you have to do that to stop your body rotation and square up for your shot. The officials let Wisconsin’s coach get in their ear, and the ln the announcers, who I thought called a good game, were in agreement. Terrible call, but we kept grinding and pulled it out when we really didn’t shoot well or handle the ball well. Love this team.

Amen, couldn’t love these guys more.

  4. CULTURE.  I couldn’t tell for sure but I think Rubin referenced that in the post game.  These guys just never give up, always play hard and know they’re never out of it.  And also just don’t get skeered of nobody.  Agree with the huge pride.  We, UAB and FAU all clearly belonged in the tourney but if you wanna put us in the Walmart tourney, fine, we’ll just win it.  This is what NT culture should be, grind it out, lunch pale, middle class, hard workin stuff.  Love it!

Yeah I saw she went to Aledo, but does she have any real ties to Fort Worth or TCU? Denton is still DFW. And she spent her entire collegiate softball career here. Seems like UNT should have been "home" more than TCU...

Well, there was a regime change.  I’m sure Eric just didn’t retain her or the fit wasn’t right.  Via Seth probably a connection to Sonny somehow.  I’m sure she still bleeds green but it was just a time for a change.  Hard to blame a 20 something for taking a big 12 job a little closer to home after giving several years to the Mean Green, including softball.

really all this makes me think about is how ESG consideration...or "Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance"...considerations in large-firm investment strategies has major long-term economic benefits for investors and that our great 46th President, Joe Biden, was right to veto H.R. 1187...and that naturally republicans would just yell their favorite dog-whistle, "woke", into the void of the things that scare them, make them reconsider their world view or simply don't understand.

    thoughts?

Hahaha that’s a lot of fun.  Yelling “woke” at clouds really is having a huge moment.  What a time to be alive!

I don’t think as of 2 weeks ago anyone has doubted that Mac isn’t going to tech. My concern is who he takes with him. Abou left the team and some seniors leaving. Perry is out. Will Jones, Scott, Moore, and Sissoko stay? I hope so.

Yeah I don’t think he’s going to be hurting for talent so I doubt he takes much other than assistant coaches and maybe TP.  We will still be set up well.  Just crazy how good our migrating conference peers are plus Memphis etc. Great time to build the brand to get an at large next year if we can play well.

What an unbelievable postseason by FAU, and the entirety of CUSA in general.  Just so proud.

Indeed, and these guys are moving with us.  This is going to be a real fun league.   I’m damn sure we can still compete post Grant era and Eric is getting me hyped for our football future.  Already booked for the October Tulane trip.  Great crew scootin into the AAC.

  9. #respectmydecision is about as lame as it gets.  You don't ask for respect, geek.  That said, I agree with the sentiment that this doesn't necessarily make him or Seth (assuming he was involved) a "bad person"....they're just playing the game the NCAA allows them to and they're competitors.  But selfishly, yes, F em.  #GMG

His first job out of college was at Tech. He even got a masters degree there I believe. I don’t think living in Lubbock would keep him from entertaining the idea of tripling his salary.

Exactly.  Lots of familiarity, triple the money…hard to be upset.  Also, Lubbock and the high plains are a fine area.  Let’s not act like the Trinity creates a much more beautiful atmosphere beyond the concrete.  Hope he stays, but expect him to go.

Not to distract and I'm sure that this will bring the eye rolls, but the rumblings from people in the loop at Tech are getting louder. I have a friend who is right more than not when it comes to Tech and he says there has been discussions with Mac's agent at least and thinks that a win in stillwater will seal the deal.  Maybe "seal the deal" is a full court press by them to get him, and not a for sure thing he leaves. Just passing this along. I'm hoping it's wrong.

Been hearing similar rumblings from smaller college coaches in West Texas.

Wow. You are planning to do ASU even dirtier than UNT did with coach Mac. I am impressed.

To be clear UNT didn't really do anything wrong when it comes to Mac and ASU, but i feel folks at ASU were somewhat unhappy to learn UNT saw itself as powerful and money-abundant enough to take their coach whenever it wants and then go and execute on it without ASU being able to do anything about it. Said something about the hierarchy of things.

    Too bad for them

and when Ross or Grant are hired away, too bad for us.  Just the way it is.

Deal signed in December of 2017, when were were unable to get a home and home against any teams outside of SMU.  This was seen as a sign of great things to come as it was one of the first deals signed by Wren.

Remember who the Wyoming QB was right about then?  Would’ve been cool to see two similar guys of our respective eras go head to head.  I’m totally fine with this home and home.  They were playing in a better league at the time.  I think the OP may possibly feel different if we were playing a CUSA schedule again next year but not sure.  Nothing wrong with playing a flagship state school in the Mountain West for now until we beat them consistently.  Let’s not take the cheap way, let’s not take the harder way.  Let’s just take the right way which is beating the next dudes in front of you, IMO.

  14. USF is 4-29 in the last three seasons and havent had a winning record since 2018 at 7-6 under Charlie Strong.  They're shit and also no longer P5 and will be in the same conference as us next year.  The case being made may have made sense 10 years ago, but it damn sure doesnt now which ultimately means it didnt make sense back then.  I get the sentiment - invest in the program.  Won't argue with that, but the USF reference is nonsense.

That's horseshit. USF joined the Big East P-5 crowd almost instantly after starting FBS football during the Jim Leavitt years and were quickly ranked as high as 3rd in the nation. They had a commitment to winning, an excellent marketing and promotions campaign, and a 75,000 seat Raymond James Stadium for hosting P5 level opponents.

How tough was their challenge? Prior to 1998 they didn't have a single football facility so they had to buy some portable buildings for coaches. Their team had to dress at university gyms and bus to a local practice field and have team meetings under trees. The students voted on a mascot, the Brahmas, and it wasn't until months later when all initial promotional material was already printed that somebody pointed out the obvious; a Brahma is a breed of chickens, a Brahman is a breed of cattle (don't tell the Lone Star Brahmas). USF just changed to Bulls and forged ahead. As an FCS school in 2001 they won their first ever home game against FBS competition when they stomped the incredibly poorly coached North Texas Mean Green. By 2003 USF had joined CUSA and in 2005 South Florida joined the P5 level Big East conference.

So it can be done quickly if planned correctly. Get a facility truly capable of hosting FBS competition, promote the hell out of the program, and hire coaches truly committed to supporting and winning at their school.

That was when the paths of our two programs initially crossed. They went from being totally unknown to winning regularly against Top 25 teams while North Texas was stuck as an FBS pretender competitive against the other lowly Sun Belt schools and being cannon fodder for everyone else.

There have been a lot of improvements at North Texas. A new G5 level stadium has been built, but it's being left at G5 capacity even though we have games scheduled that we know will have demand that far excedes the current seating.

Can we get to P5 consideration quickly? Yes, but it's going to take real facility improvements and dedication to the school. I don't see either being planned, just a lot of "not my job", "that's how it's always been done", and "why expand it and make it functional if it's not currently selling out?"

Yeah but it turned out to be a house of cards

15 minutes left to discuss this game, then the focus shifts to UAB.

Looked like a good UNT crowd. Any guess how many we had?  I have no idea what capacity is there.

I‘m not sure but I do sure know I’m damn looking forward to AAC Tournament venues like Dickey’s Arena with real cameras, lighting, multi conference bids, etc for next year and beyond.  This team is so damn good and they deserve all of it.
