Great locker room guy, has probably matured past the dramatic eye black and goofy nUTSAck style sideline jump arounds. Wish him all the best truly. Some weirdly obsessed on this board gave him way too much credit for a blow out loss bowl game he made a few throws in and that’s not his fault.

My main takes right now:
- I like the Sean Brophy hire a lot and think he will be very valuable as a QB coach because he has experience playing in the system AND implementing the system. I expect this to be a significant advantage for our QB room as the system is implemented here. Brophy and Morris will be on the same page from Day 1 because they've already been on the same page for many years.
- I like the Gilbert hire a lot for reasons others have already covered so I won't repeat.
- Retaining Cobbs was a slam dunk and (in my opinion) shows Morris has put his ear to the ground to learn about the nuances of the situation he's taking over and is taking action upon that information.
Thus far, I think Morris is making intelligent and strategic decisions that are the right ones for UNT. If he maintains this and brings in a stud DC with a stellar defensive staff, I think he'll knock his first couple of months on the job out of the park.
Gagree. I’d also love to see our fanbase show up with a great crowd to the Spring game to show support for all of this. Tailgates and party times.

If we get Ruffin at DC and Hudson Card I will donate all my kids’ Christmas presents to someone else.

Being a SOC guy I wonder if he may bring Keith Smith back into the fold @TheReal_jayD? Realize he’s on the other side of the ball but if defensive scheme lines up assuming that’s already in the works..

Look for that on defense would be my guess. And maybe OL. Patrick being the old guy on the staff for now is hilarious and also sobering since I’m pretty much his age.

All were guys he brought with him to Wazzu from UIW so clearly they’re all on the same page about things.

Couldn’t be looking forward to 9/2/23 more. Gonna be a great day and a packed house. We had a great chance to win that game in Berkeley, Rico got hurt and sadly lost all his momentum and who knows what that win could’ve done for Seth and that team the rest of that year but fate has us here now and it’s time to beat the Golden Bears in Denton.

I wonder if Mosley could help Mac's guys out with their free throws.
Dude! How has this been such an ongoing issue? For all the discipline and toughness and great defense, you’d think making your free throws goes hand in hand with the style. So weird. Love Grant and his guys anyway, but dang!

Sheesh. Read the post above yours.
Apologies. Was posting same time that was being posted. Not sure which coach you’re referencing, but sure sometimes it doesn’t work out of course.

Didn't work so well when we tried this strategy for QB coaches.
Haha dayum you’re flying off the top ropes! The charges were dropped for one thing. Plus that’s one in a zillion type crazy situation. Plus Eric is doing the vetting now so we will see if that’s any different (not that I blame Seth a ton for stepping into that situation).

This has been a very popular move last few years. See Jeff Traylor Staff at UTSA, Chad Morris and Sonny Dykes staff at SMU and even Matt Rhule at Baylor. Bring in current TXHSFB coaches for postion coaches roles. It has paid HUGE dividends in recruiting.
Right. Nervous posters can set their Dodge trauma to the side for position coaches, it’s not the same thing. Major recruiting advantage with their networks plus, high energy guys who are very connected to how these young guys are wired.

We’ve needed this kind of guy so bad for awhile. It’ll help with acknowledging traditions and broaden our richness and uniqueness. We haven’t had a coach celebrate those kinds of things in a long long time. And neither Dan nor Seth really pushed the SMU rivalry very hard so for Eric to rip it wide open like that is so great. I don’t want him to run his mouth too much, but treating it the way the actual fans do too is so refreshing. I look for Eric to celebrate what makes us “us” so much more than we’ve seen in the past.

I really do believe we are in such great shape. TBH it’s hard to see 6+ wins on the schedule next year knowing the little we know so far, but 1. I do expect to be pleasantly surprised and 2. A longer term view shows amazing talent and potential with the folks involved at MGV right now. Super proud to be an Eagle right now.

Same as the golf caps with the golf club swinging Scrappy on the front, UNT on each side. I happen to think they are pretty cool. Why don’t they make them available on the Athletics website for golfing Alumni to purchase? I just don’t get it.
I love those

You know, long ago the "experts" came up with a term that describes the situation "Alligator Arms". It's not a thought process, it's a subconscious reaction. BTW, I didn't coin the term. I just observe it from time to time. The term I always use for a WR that is oblivious to consequences is "he made the catch whilst wearing the DB....or two".
Lack of will and lack of focus are two very different things. The lizard mind can easily lose focus but a lack of will implies an entirely different thing.

A lack of execution is not getting in position to get the ball in your hands. Dropping or not holding on is a lack of will.
Yeah every wide receiver that drops a ball says to themselves before it gets to them “you know, I really don’t want to catch this pass”

Awful post. These kids left it all out there. Nearly beat a 10 win team. If you want to blame their coach, fine. He’s already gone. New era has already started. What’s your point?

I know some were critical of him, but I'm going to miss this man (assuming he doesn't get convinced to stay, which seems highly unlikely). This man is a treasure.
Absolutely. He’s got a lot of love for the game and its players in his heart and you have to prioritize that number one. Secondly, he’s been able to find a way to be an effective DC on plenty of staffs that prioritize a lack of time of possession. He’s DC’d a TON of plays knowing he’s going to give up points but he adjusted to the wide open game. He’s taken plenty of darts for that, some deserved but he’s always been brave and owned that stuff. I’ll miss him as our DC. Part of it is his talent in coaching, but to be honest another part of it is about the passing of time and an end of another era of a truly magical unicorn.
