  1. We could stand a few more Sun Belt and non Texas CUSA write-ins, too. BTW, write-ins are voting in the "Other" section.
  2. Thanks for that find from TSN 2005 College Football, SUMG. #61 is not so bad a ranking for the Mean Green. #61 is closer to where we want to be and (in my heart of hearts) I feel our new football stadium coupled with continued winning will make us a permanent fixture in the NCAA D1-A Top 50. We need to start having Top 50 attendance numbers very soon and think we can if we merely utilize all our marketing & advertising talents on campus.
  3. I lived at 316 Fry Street (1 block from campus) much of my time as a student at NT and I felt like I lived in Animal House much of the time. Keep in mind an era when Viet Nam was winding down very quickly because of Nixon busting his butt to get us out of there. But what an eye-opening experience for one who came from Small Town, Texas, with all those Fry Street hippies, music majors from up North and Texas red necks--quite a melting pot you might say. It was the best of times, though, and a time/experience I wouldn't trade for anything in the world. Those years really made me appreciate Denton, Texas, America, because it was a college town that had it all (as far as college towns go).
  4. Rick, will these jerseys have the new shade of green that no one at Voertmans or the Union Book Store really seems to know what that would be?
  5. And is the very reason this 1-AA team on a Big Boy schedule will hurt mid majors getting a Top 10 schedule in the future. Hopefully, this new rule that allows a freakin' 1-AA game to count toward a D1-A school's bowl minimum number of wins will change back to the old rule in due time. Yet, this another reason NORTH TEXAS just needs to take care of its business at home and not rely or have to be concerned about any outside scenarios that might affect our short term/long term goals to significantly advance this program. BUILD IT!
  6. Welcome "giacfsp' of SMU! You talk about your generic monikers! ! ! LOL! But you did disclose your affiliation and that is most appreciated. Enjoyed reading your post, too. Get some of your other buddies at www.PonyFans.com to visit and use a generic name when they register here if they must. In fact, tell them TCU still has a 1 point lead over the Stangs that they can pass easily with a some more Mustang voters. And to LSUfan4444, please continue your frequent visits and infomative posts--we enjoy them over here. Sorry about leaving out non Texas D1--A schools but the poll would have been too lengthy had we included colleges outside Texas. Good luck to SMU and LSU in 2005, exept on the first Saturday in September, LSU'ers!
  7. 8 bucks, you $ay?!? How about $9.95 now? I did get a $1 discount on my 2005 DCTF at the Weatherford Wal Mart, though. I've purchased a DCTF every year its been out since my mother let my buy the first edition at a general store in the small Texas town southwest of Houston I was reared. In fact, it was a collection I was most proud and cannot believe I didn't save all of those magazines. That ranks right up there with the 2 rookie Mickey Mantle baseball cards I had in my cigar box collection of baseball cards that my late, sainted mother threw away after she assumed I had outgrown that part of my life. Heck! I still haven't outgrown that part of my life! LOL! I believe Street & Smith was the first college football magazine I bought (50 cents?) and if you older nestors would remember, their cover always seemed to have a player on its cover who wore a helmet "without" the face guard and even did that during the era that helmets had faceguards. Guess their reasoning behind that is that they thought the purchasors of their magazine wanted to see the face of their cover boy. OK, SUMG, I am not "THAT" freakin' old, either! Wasn't Dave Campbell the sports editor of the Waco Herald-Tribune for years? I guess he was a Texas good ol' boy who was at the right plact at the right time if that were the case. I've enjoyed his magazine most years, and can remember some of us on this board writing him asking him why NORTH TEXAS always seemed to just get black and white photos in its limited coverage. I cannot remember what year we made it to color photo status, anyone else remember what year all our letters finally paid off?
  8. Bump.... Invites to come over to vote have been extended to some of these schools message board so I put this back to the top so they can see this thread.
  9. Jack, it appears to be no one's job to formulate a plan of action (and then act) to put more butts in seats! AN IDEA? It was mentioned to me by another fellow alum, Jack, but why don't we utilize the marketing company that spent one entire summer helping us get our (then) largest crowd at Fouts Field first time we played Baylor in the extreme heat back in 2000. Rice U I believe used these same people with equal results according to that fellow alum. <>*<> This NORTH TEXAS MEAN GREEN football team deserves no less in the attendance department in Denton and especially at our home opener against the Tulsa Golden Hurricane (who I believe will bring 2 or 3,000 fans of their own). We just need to have many, many, many tickets sold for our home season opener before we tee it up with the LSU Tigers, that's all.
  10. Well, the very respected Phil Steele's College Football 2005 gives SBC all star status to Mean Green OL Dylan Lineberry, linebackers Shawn Early & Brandon Moore, Cornerback TJ Covington, Tackle Jeremy Brown, DL Willie Ransom & CB JaMel Branch. Of course all those along with all the other aforementioned like "one great wide out (Johnny Quinn), one great kicker (Nick Bazaldua) AND 2 great running backs a few people outside the Southwest have even heard about. Seems like UNT's cupboard is hardly bare, old Mother Hubbard! I think we have others not mentioned above who will also come to the forefront to help their teammates, too, which will make for a most interesting season in Mean Green Country in 2005. FOOTNOTE: Anyone else looked ahead as to how good this young Mean Green team will be in 2006, too?
  11. In all fairness, Gabe has been very polite and professional the few times I've called wanting some ticket info.
  12. And a few more votes coming in with the Red Raiders of Texas Tech in the lead and TCU closing in fast! Come on SMU and Baylor, where the heck are ya"!"! (Hey! How 'bout those blue and white Rice Owls)?!?!? Visitors can register under generic names on GMG.com if you don't won't to blow your cover or show school affiliation (shame on you if that is the case).
  13. Well, if our designated starting QB is not elgible, guess we have Meager to go with and I think Byerly only has 12 snaps in D1-A experience ahead of Meager OR............we have 3 true frosh' coming in who have QB experience in HS if the others waiting in the wings are not effective. They were all 3 recruited as athletes and recruiting service guru/Texas Football contributing writer Randy Rodgers says all 3 were excellent athletes to boot. Seems we had a player a few years ago named Scott Hall with similar attributes and didn't he start as a freshman and didn't that team go to a bowl? Didn't NT beat the CUSA champion in the New Orleans Bowl with another freshman QB, too? All is not lost if we have lost Byerly, folks, because we still have a couple of pretty good running backs coming back this Fall. A very high and reliable source told me Byerly should be OK with his elgibility by the end of summer classes, but I guess all that is really in the hands of Byerly himself, now isn't it? Losing a player because of elgibility problems is like losing a player to injury, it is something that just happens in college football. Most college teams always seem to adapt, though.
  14. Actually, I went to Lower Section E because it seemed 50 yards closer than Upper Section E, Jack. I guess the upside to (sometimes) poor customer service at NT thru the decades is that I didn't have to fight to get four 50 yard line season tickets. Just had to give some to the Mean Green Club, that's all. And SMU? Just wait till there is another conference that NT so desires to be affiliated that SMU has some kind of say, because it will be at that time when history will once again repeat. Like my late sainted mother used to tell me, "Son, you can't take stripes off a zebra." Of course, Mustangs don't have stripes now do they? Anyone in Green Country would have to admit that when it concerns NORTH TEXAS, there seems to be a trend we can most always depend on transpiring when it comes to SMU and I don't think that will much change in the rest of our lifetimes OR in some of our young gun alums lifetimes for what its worth. NT Athetic Ticket Manager: 2005 Version? I don't even know who the latest in a very long list of NT ticket mananger is this time around because I don't concern myself with that kind of thing any longer. All I want to see from that group is what kind of plan of action they come up with to fill the 15,000 empty seats that we seem to be stuck on not filling most years; and of course, a new stadium wouldn't hurt the cause, either. Remains to be seen if this group can solve either, because I think most of us would be happy with even just 1 out of 2 on those present obstacles.
  15. These 3 true freshman that Randy Rodgers' mentions in the new DCTF just out on the newstands who will be setting up their dorm rooms at Victory Hall in a few weeks are: Arthur Stubblefield (Aldine Eisenhower) Korey Washington (Cedar Park) Antoine Bush (Tyler John Tyler) ......................................................................................................... To you who have followed NT recruiting very closely and know about these 3 future Mean Greeners HS experiences, would there be any of these 3 who might be considered for the position of QB at NORTH TEXAS (although they were all 3 recruited just like Scott Hall was originally, ie, for the defensive backfield). Any thoughts on this, Mean Green recruiting gurus?
  16. Hey? Some of our visitors are slowly discovering this poll. There is a small race going on right now--who knows, maybe it will gain some momentum? Pass the word to your fellow alums, TX D1-A college visitors. So.......register and vote! You are among friends here at GoMeanGreen.com. Texas Tech now leads in the poll with "3" votes! I bet they get the word out on the Llano Estacado.
  17. Rick, you are in a most benevolent mood today because in 2 posts today you said you "wuv'd" SUMG and my posts. What's going on on the home front to get you in such a good mood, Rick?!? Anyway..........SUMG, I was really looking for yet another poll when I first read your subject line, but maybe we need a break from polls every once in a while, eh? Hilarious post, though. SUMG. .......................................................................... AN NT TICKET OFFICE EXPERIENCE: I took a fellow alum to the NT ticket office post-Kids Korner and he (not knowing anyone in the athletic department) commented on how rude an NT athletic official was to the both of us. In fact, he was so pissed he almost backed out of buying anything from NORTH TEXAS that day. I just grinned, told him not to be like the other 15,000 (ie, empty seats) who also don't buy from NT and to just ignore the immaturity and then urged him to go on & make his purchase anyway--he did. I later briefed our fellow alum about how if you are a bit too opinionated (like most of us on GMG.com seem to be) OR have too many opinions that differ from a handful at NORTH TEXAS that that was the kind of treatment and (sometimes) lack of maturity you could expect from a few. He rolled his eyes back asking, "aren't these state of Texas employees who are supposed to be serving the citizens of Texas, but moreso alums from the very school they get their pay checks?" Our fellow alum then asked me how our average attendance at Fouts had been in recent years and if they even needed new customers like himself to buy season tickets after the attitude he had witnessed first hand that day. I told him we had plenty of seats to fill most any game and that most affiliated with NT would appreciate his purchase of season tickets. Then he asked me if they knew I had been buying season tickets and/or attending NT football games for about as long as some of them were in age and would be buying them when NT became a distant memory for some of them. I was amused and then told our fellow alum that wherever they might go after they left NT (and that usually a smaller school if we can go by past history) that I'm sure they would not have to worry about being as customer-service oriented in a much smaller setting. SUMG, you should have made this a poll with real life names from our glorious past in the NT ticket office because that would have made for a most interesting poll.
  18. Was sorta' hopin' we had more Texas D1-A visitors (and we still may except they are just not registered as to vote in the poll). Too lazy to register in order to vote? Awe shucks! Some of our visitors can even register under a most generic name w/o giving their school affiliation away in order to vote for their own school's colors in this poll. So...........anyone have the date on when 2-a-days in Mean Green Country begin?!?! OH, we have a tie in this poll thus far!
  19. Funny, TechFan... Perhaps some of you older NT nestors can recall the story (as I have forgotten it) but what would have been the scenario for NT to have been invited to the Indy Bowl that year we slaughtered La Tech? Oddly enough as I vaguely remember that scenario, it seems like we needed to actually "loose" against someone to have gotten that invite. I thought the Indy bowl follks were real "loosers" for not inviting us anyway. (TechFan, we have a hard time on this board with the words lose and loose and I guess I've continued that legacy with this post). All time NT/La Tech Football Series: UNT: 5 wins LTU: 4 wins
  20. Looking at SUMG's "Non UNT Sports" thread about Dallas Maverick radio announcer (and yet another NORTH TEXAS grad) the great Mark Followell reminds us of yet another media celebrity who should also be at this NT banquet that honors the great Bill Mercer.
  21. When will the SBC announce its full TV slate? Surely, the NORTH TEXAS/Middle Tennessee game will be the first game of that package broadcast. Would we ever understand why it woudn't be?
  22. Charles, it seems like you go thru this every year with DC's Texas Football--so sorry about that. BTW, have you found one yet?
  23. ALL VISITORS! Help us pass some time until all our respective football teams start 2-a-days! LOL! So.........HOW MUCH DO YOU REALLY LOVE YOUR SCHOOL & YOUR SCHOOL'S FOOTBALL TEAM? A Vote in this poll will give everyone a hint of that. .................................................................................................................................... REGISTER USING A GENERIC NAME IF YOU DON'T WON'T TO BLOW YOUR COVER (or your school affiliation): You will have to register on GoMeanGreen.com (if you haven't previously) to vote for your favorite color combo; that is, your alma mater or favorite Texas D1-A college football team, but that part is free, EZ and takes no time at all. ..................................................................................................................................... Now.......surely you're not going to let "THAT" school beat your school in this poll....OR are you? >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> <>*<> GOOD LUCK TO ALL TEXAS D1-A SCHOOLS IN YOUR UPCOMING 2005 FOOTBALL CAMPAIGNS! <>*<> The Mean Green Nation will be pulling for your team when you are not on our schedule and (especially) when you are playing a non-Texas school! Sort of the Texan thing to do, right?!?!? NOW.......................VOTE!
  24. Harry, did he ever play in the backfield in HS?
  25. Johnny Quinn is IMHO the best receiver in the state of Texas, but we just don't pass the ball enough for him to get his stats to prove it; but for this 2005 football season I'll bet he will be on ESPN SportCenter highlights more than any other receiver in the Lone Star State. KUDO's to our other guys for making the All Texas team in Dave Campbell's TEXAS FOOTBALL. <>*<> Funny how Dylan Lineberry made that prestigous All Texas list in Campbell's magazine but he is not even listed on the NT 2 deep roster (and that I'm sure because he is not in school). Rumor has it that he is OK at the JUCO he is getting his needed additional credits, though.
