  1. For players, that means the transfer portal and no position brings attention like that of the quarterback. It's a position that can swing seasons and ramp up expectations, and with the fluidity of this year, tracking where the QBs on the move end up will help tell the tale of the 2022 college season.

  2. Joel Filani, Texas Tech Receivers Coach

This is a name given to me by a person I trust as a possibility. There’s no smoke here (yet), but my source made some great points about the former Titans receiver because of his connections from his time at Boise State. He’s helped develop Texas Tech’s first All Big-12 first-team receiver since Michael Crabtree, and also showed how well he can develop talent during his time at North Texas, where he coached current Los Angeles Chargers receiver Jalen Guyton. He hasn’t had a ton of real tests as a recruiter, but he deserves a shot at a bigger program.

  5. The tradition-steeped Rose Bowl is considered the “Granddaddy of them all.”

But the hastily arranged Frisco Football Classic, which kicks off Thursday in the same stadium that on Tuesday hosted the Frisco Bowl, says far more about what’s driving the proliferation of postseason games.Yep

The Frisco Football Classic was ginned up the week before this season’s bowl pairings were announced to solve a thorny problem that arose when 83 teams finished the regular season with at least six wins. That was one too many bowl-eligible teams for the 82 slots in the 41 preapproved bowls.

So ESPN Events, which owns and operates more than one-third of the bowl games, huddled with the conferences that stood to lose out and proposed a 42nd bowl. With the NCAA’s Football Oversight Committee agreeing Dec. 2 to waive a deadline for certifying bowl games that had passed eight months before, a new bowl was born virtually overnight.
