  1. Bill, the old Eagle Memorial Stadium had a listed capacity of 10,000.  When Fouts was built we had a student enrollment of about 5,000.  The normal crowd was about 75-90% capacity.  Homecoming was pretty much a sellout so I'd say that the average attendance was around 8,500.  Bear in mind, 45,000 was an excellent crowd for a SWC game; many were in the 20s.  In fact, I believe that the Cotton Bowl only held 45,000 then although it was expanded to 65,000 just after the Doak Walker era.

I remember attending a Texas-TAMU game in College Station in the early '60's. Kyle Field was at capacity that day, 33-35,000 fans. This was the old horseshoe shaped Kyle Field.

  2. If you've ever visited a large university like A & M, you'll know that student parking is at a premium there. Other than a few large, stratigically placed parking garages around campus, and large parking lots far from the center of campus, student parking is a nightmare. To my knowledge there are no parking areas attached to a specific dorm for the convenience of the residents living there. Spaces in parking garages cost in the neighborhood of $400 per semester. However, TAMU does have a very good transit system that picks up students at many of the apartment complexes that are around the campus and beyond.

A & M has the West campus, across the railroad track from main campus, where the athletic fields are located, and where several of the Universities colleges are located. Business, medicine, agriculture, etc. This is very much detached from the main campus like our Eagle Point.

These are just the inconveniences of attending a large university. If the North Texas uses the parking areas behind Clark and Maple Halls to build new dorms, they will have to build large parking garages around campus at the same time. Also, and admittedly I know nothing about NT's transit system, they will have to the size of the "free" transit system and have more pickup locations at the new parking areas and beyond.

Just my $ .02. I have two daughters at A & M right now and parking is an absolute nightmare on that campus. But you know what? Those aggie$ seem to get along just fine.

  3. Nice helmet; and I don't know if you did it intentionally but I like the two-tone green color too.  Perhaps if the lighter green started at the top of the Eagle's wingtip, and carried to the other side from there, that would look good.  cool.gif

Actually I shortened the wings on the eagle at someone elses suggestion. The two-tone was not intentional. I just don't know what color helmet we will be using in the fall. I tried to re-color the helmet with the official Pantone color but it did not match the color of the new eagle. I'm waiting for a new green helmet to come out.

  4. Build a new football stadium at Eagle Point, tear down Fouts eliminate the practice fields, etc., and you have all of that land to build parking garages, dorms, academic buildings and anything else that is need for a growing student population. Fouts is in the way. rolleyes.gif

  5. With regards to Matress Mac, one thing that would benefit UNT, would be for Mac to open a big furniture warehouse like he has in Houston. Did you know he was one of the big/main sponsors at the Texas a $ m spring football game? Probably 30,000+ fans were watching those ads he had on the scoreboard. It would stand to reason that he would do the same in the DFW area if he had a location there. At least I hope he would do the same for UNT.

  6. Umm, they may have chosen the UTA coach because the UTA ladies' team made it to the NCAA tourney. Fox Sports was actually good judgment on that. No offense to our ladies' but why choose Tina whose team was not in the tourney (and thus not a relevant selection) over UTA's coach who actually had a team play in the tourney?

It is not a slap in the face to us. Fox just wanted to use a coach who had a team play in the NCAA tourney in which Baylor was in the Final Four and now in the title game. Don't get so bent out of shape....

You're correct. Fox did make the right choice for the interview. I overreacted because I forgot that UTA made it to the tourny this year. Kudos for UTA and their coach.

  7. Interesting that our Lady Eagle basketball coach of the past 50 years, Tina Slinker, was not part of the Fox Sports SW segment when they were discussing Baylor Lady Bears getting into the final four for the National Championship. No, they chose the womens coach from UTA. What a slap in the face to the NT program. mad.gif

  8. Alumni working in and around the DFW Metroplex have real problems making it to games on time. My question is, don't we have 20,000 students living in and around the NT campus? Where are they? You'd think 4 to 5,000 students would attend a NT basketball game during tournament time. We have to depend on working Alums to go to games. Same old same old. sad.gif

  9. The mens golf team recently finished a tournament out in San Antonio, so I went over to the athletic website for the results. The nice, brief writeup gave very little information, only stating NT's low round players, etc., and the fact that we came in 13th out of 17 teams. Why does the AD choose to leave out who our competition was? Who won the tournament? Was the field made up mainly of D1 or DIII teams?

I'd like to know who we were up against and how we compare to other D1 programs, not just the fact that we came in 13th out of 17 teams. <_<

  10. John Roberts. I don't think they are in business any longer, but they made a very classy NTSU ring. No TAMU lookalikes. John Roberts also made rings for UT at the time. Mine has a more "ivy league" look. I'll see if I can post pictures of it. cool.gif
