  1. JJ did - great point - which is why I really do hope that this was his turning year. I really do. But one point on a graph does not create a trend. WE should expect post season play every year. A bad year should be when we go to the NIT.
  2. As I quickly look at the roster and see who is scoring and playing I feel pretty good about next year. And I am not willing to allow JJ off the hook for one season. In my book, he bought himself another year.
  3. JJ has proven himself to be a very classy guy who can recruit. He has NOT proven himself to be a constant winning coach. My opinion is that had he not had a good showing in the Sunbelt tournament then he should have been fired. He has bought himself one more year. I do think that a Basketball program "build" is about 3 years. He is a little late. On the other hand we did not hire a proven head coach when we hired JJ. We hired a coach who appeared to be impressive and have the skills required but had not yet come into his own. Hopefully this was his year. Hopefully we will see post season play from hear on out. I'm not saying the if he doesnt make the sweet 16 next year he should be gone. But we should see continued improvement. It is hard to win a Championship every year. And if we dont we should make the NIT and win a game or two (at a minimum).
  4. The one thing that I HATE about this board is everyones obsession with SM freakin U. We just won a Championship and are going to the Dance. But we not only go check out their board and find the one post about us that has what 6 comments and post it over here. WHY not focus on the win. Lets celebrate the win and the future and not look at what other colleges are thinking about us. Grow up. When I went to college I thought I would always live close enough to support my school. And I always wondered why people from other colleges supported a school that they did not go to. Then I moved to Denton and thought I have got to support a local college. It is just to hard to attend events at mine. But reading posts full of jealousy makes it very difficult.
  5. Good article.. And we can step up and hold the support cast. I have faith in the athletes on this team. JJ has recruited well but 85-88 is horrible.
  6. It sounds like Music.... It must be coming from the Dance. It sounds like fun. I cant hear anyone in there from the metroplex. Maybe we should go ahead and go so that someone from DFW will be there. And I am referring to the BIG Dance.
  7. I agree with your post. And I dont see Tulane, Memphis and Southern Miss splitting up anytime soon. I think that these 3 schools will try to stay together (they always have). Speaking out of the other side of my mouth allows me to add.... "unless a BCS Football Conference comes calling."
  8. Nice post. We have got to make sure that the support is at fouts field come next fall. The Athletic Department has done a great job of gettting us a Coach that is getting attention. It is up to the fans to make it snowball.
  9. CUSA is not stable because they have programs that are ready to play in a BSC conference and are positioning for that move. Someone mentioned Memphis... Well they only play one game well - Basketball. Probably not what the Big East is looking for. They (big east) had a fairly big showing last year in football and I'm sure that they want to keep this going. If they add another team look for them to be didicated to football and basketball. If there is to be a move in conferences look for the mid majors to form a super conference. We need that stadium and FAST.
  10. Well I will defer to those of you who have been around this area longer then I have. But it just seems like we talk about this game waaaaay more then they do.
  11. Really???? I have spent a good deal of time lurking on their website. Truly it took me a while to decide which University that I wanted to adopt and support while living here. I live in Denton and have friends that went to school at both Universities. But ultimately I decided to support UNT. But (as an outsider looking in) I think what is true is that we want it to be their superbowl. In fact, I just went over to their site and found a post about their schedule. UNT is rarely mentioned. And they certainly do not have an entire thread dedicated to us. Atleast not right now. I got bead up last time I mentioned SMU. But we really do look bad when we have entire threads didicated to them. It makes it look like it is our Superbowl. BLAST AWAY.... But it is true.
  12. I THINK that it is one every 2 years.
  13. I guess it depends if the team has a campus stadium. I know that Arkansas used to play at least 2 of their home games each year in LR. And the LR stadium (cant remember the name) is not home to another team so it really is a home stadium for Arkansas. Did Tulane not play several of their games in opponents staduims when the Super Dome was being repaired? But really who cares? The point of my post is that it only inflates the attendance numbers. It is not a true reflection of where your program is or is going. I am not in favor of this "attendance game".
  14. I ran into a guy about 3 years ago at the San Diego Zoo wearing a UNT cap. I did get to talk to him. He is retired and doing some sort of hospital charity work in Mexico (I think). But still calls Denton home. He kind of turned me on to UNT athletics (along wiht a few friends if mine)
  15. You can do the same thing by being the home team but playing in the other teams stadium. All it does is inflate your attendance numbers. Lets build a new stadium and fill it.
  16. Funny... Well I'm definately NOT in favor of going to the MAC. WE as a conference do need to make significiant strides with respect to attendance.
  17. Middle Tennessee 24,037 Louisiana-Monroe 22,313 Troy 21,473 Arkansas State 19,069 North Texas 15,650 Florida International 15,110 Louisiana-Lafayette 14,516 Florida Atlantic 9,290 Hard to build the Sunbelt with numbers like this... Even harder to get more bowl games "tie ins".
  18. Just start at the square. Many of the places that have been mentioned are at or around the square.
  19. I dont pretend to know all of the groups that have been mentioned. But, it seems to me that Several good points have come from this thread and others like it. It appears that we need the spirit groups but we also need more people at the games. So the question remains the same "how do we generate the interest needed to get more students and alumni at the games?" Add a group called the Dodgers? Unify all the groups? Put pressure on RV to put together and / or publish a study of what it will take to generate the interest? All of the above? The reality is that if it were a simple solution attendance wouldnt be a problem. I truly do not think that this will be an issue in 5-10 years. I think that the Master Plan for the University will generate more pride and loyalty and therefore more interest in every aspect of UNT including sports. I feel that The University Administration (including RV) is on the right track. But I also agree that we should not just sit and wait. I agree with both Rick and ForneyGreen. Get the groups together and unified. Take a couple of people from each group to serve as representatives (this is the new group) in order to maximize the performance of all groups.
  20. The only team I fear this year is the MAVs. But the way that they are playing I just dont see them choking this year.
  21. I agree, this is our problem. So Again another 15 +/- win season.
  22. Boomer Jacks - you are correct. The food is not bad but overpriced. I dont mind the prices because it keeps the crowd down. BTW the free beer is gone. Bummer. It is real close to my house also. I am remodeling a home between Boomer Jacks and UNT.
