No, this has nothing to do with COVID. I was just checking the Tower of Power website, and... they are scheduled to play the Denton Arts & Jazz Fest on October 2nd! They have appeared in Texas so rarely - this will be a real treat.
Their second trumpet, Adolfo Acosta, is a One O'Clock Lab Band alum.
For those wondering about the football schedule, that's apparently a bye week, sandwiched between two away games.

What's really impressive to me is the way he absorbs it and thinks out what he's heard. While I've never played the song before, I've heard it plenty of times, and I wouldn't have gotten the nuances of the song the way he does - I would have just played along, and while it would be "good enough", it wouldn't be anywhere near as good as what he does.

Hello, and thank you for registering for UNT Alumni Live Music Featuring Brave Combo! I wanted to give you an update about our livestream event. Because the Mean Green vs. Louisiana Tech game has been rescheduled for our planned recording date, we have changed the date of our livestream to Wednesday, December 2. We are filming near the stadium, so we want to make sure Brave Combo’s tunes aren’t competing with the sounds of the stadium during the game!
Can’t make the new date? That’s OK! You will receive an email after the livestream with a link to the recording, so you can watch the band perform when it’s convenient for you. You will also receive a reminder email one hour before we go live.

Actually...
My point was that RV insisted (for football) that the helmets were marked with "North Texas", and didn't have a logo. You might say we didn't have even have a logo until the University's branding initiative, and then RV refused to put the logo on the helmet until the Heart of Dallas bowl vs. UNLV. His rationale was that nobody would know who we were otherwise.
But your point is valid - the administration had disposed of the name "Mean Green" after Hayden Fry left, and RV did recognize the value of the uniqueness of the name, and the history of the years using that name, and brought it back. So yes, kudos to RV for that.
