I love softball. It's among my favorite sports. Right there with football and basketball. I doubt softball will get it's own forum, but I'll keep commenting. I want our girls to know that their sport is important, and hopefully others will join us in the fun.

When DeLong is selling our program to recruits, I want them to know that UNT has fans that will support them. El Paso Eagle does a great job of posting thread about our series. I enjoy commenting on our games and share his enthusiasm. I don't live in the Denton area anymore, so I can't get to the games as often as I once did.  But, the wife and I will be heading down on April 15th to watch the girls play Charlotte. That should be a good series.

I'd be willing to adopt a player or two, post their stats, and give them praise as the season goes on. But, at least 5 or 6 others would need to be involved to make it work.

I'm in. I like the idea of shining more light on our best sports.

  2. I get your argument Steamin', and each will have to decide if they want to continue to support North Texas in the way they have in the past. I bought into the perpetuity model also, by the way. I'd have to go look at my contract but I suspect there is a clause that says something to the effect that "Seller has the right to change policy at any time."

I think the new pricing is to help pay for the things this board clamors for and to be competitive in a new, better conference. Being competitive in this conference gives us opportunities we won't get in the current situation.

We ask for and depend on the "19 (or whatever the number is these days)" way too much. We are being asked to lighten the load a bit. Sort of like when politicians say they are only going to raise taxes on the rich, and then you and I see our taxes go higher also. And unlike athletic departments, the government doesn't give us the free choice to pay more. They just take it.

  3. There is only so much money to go around, and this is a big hit. So....I'll be calling (insert generic charity of choice) tomorrow to let them know I am having to cut back on my donation this year.

That said, I would like some transparency about who gets into the HUB and how. Some games, it is packed for the 15 minutes or so I am up there. I seriously doubt everyone paid for their seat. And HUB attendance often doesn't correlate with regular attendance, or even weather, i.e. packed up there, light in the stands. But I won't have to doubt if NT will be transparent about it.

  4. Agree. Like at West Point, probably best to stay somewhere else and come in to Annapolis early to enjoy the city and tour the campus. I enjoyed talking to the Army fans before the game at tailgates, and I would suspect Navy folk are also welcoming.

Want to be at this game as it is my last Academy game to see but Tulane outdoors, $MU and Tulsa will have to suffice this year.

  5. I went last year. I believe the reason we are playing there is the park has capabilities to play more than one game at a time. I think a lot of from colder climates teams want to play early season games down South. Supply and demand.

Understatement: This team is off to a great start! Pitching staff looks to be deeper than any I can recall.

  6. I transferred from UT. As much as dreamed of being a UT athlete and fan as a youngster, I did not like UT. I came to NT intent on loving my last 2.5 years of college. It started with the first game I saw as a student, ironically Texas. We won on an overtime three-pointer, if I recall correctly. I never looked back. Win or lose, I love my team and I attend every football home game, a few basketball and soccer games and more softball games.

I'd rather see any North Texas game than any Texas game, and haven't owned a UT shirt since Dec of 1980.

(caveat: I was in the Hammer Squad at FW Southwest. It is in my blood to go to games and make noises, some rude, when there)

  7. Asked @Reed_Smith25 about this yesterday and he thought it was early season staff management. We got two pitchers in the first game for debuts, one (Wagoner) who struck out 10 over 4.2 innings and the other (Childers) who struck out the three she faced in her one inning hold. Ashley pitched all 5 innings of run-ruled  second game.

Ladies are up 3-0 vs UConn, middle 2nd. Per @Reed_Smith25, Lexi Cobb fields UConn's first hit off the center field wall, throws a perfect from the warning track for the inning-ending out (which base not reported).

Unbelievable game!  Our guys never quit despite being so exhausted. Scott, Huntsberry and Perry refused to back down.  It’s quite something to watch your team take a breath and bare down like that.  Every shot contested, every rebound with a hand on it, every loose ball with someone diving for it.  That’s Mac and Hodge ball right there.

And I loved seeing Super Pit staff having to hold their ears from the noise at the end.  And I agree this was the best reffed game of the year.  Had we had this crew against FAU we win easily.

BTW…I went up on campus before the game and saw the Talons cruise by in the Green Machine Model A towing an NT Battle Flag and screaming through a bull horn reminding those walking through campus to get to the Pit. Great move on their part.

1980-era Talons used to do that with the Spirit Bell (Not sure if it made it to the new Union, but it used to be displayed there). Rang the bell and went through campus calling out the Green.
