  1. I know this probably will not happen and will be another point in our history where timing worked against us, but with Garrido stepping down at UT, the future of Skip Johnson is up in the air.  If he is not retained by UT, then we should make a push to get him here to start our program.  He is probably the most respected pitching coach in the NCAA and has a number of MLBA players that work with him in the off-season including Clayton Kershaw.  He would give us instant credibility, has connections all over the state and would attract top level talent, especially pitchers, that would want to work with him.  Now may be the time where coming home, building a program and leaving a legacy is important to him.  Please, BOR, make this happen now or we may miss out on a golden opportunity.

I got it from common sense to not have anything on your athletic department named for a losing coach who only has his name on that sign because we were held hostage by the donor giving us a million dollars and threatening to take it back. Those fields should be named after either Hayden Fry or Mean Joe Greene. This is an easy thing to correct if the next AD is competent and sees value in the naming rights of those fields. Hell, the field on Apogee could just as easily be named after a huge donor if the right AD gets in there and makes some improvement with the alumni.

I don't think that is how it works.  A donor makes a donation for the naming rights to certain facilities, such as the practice fields, as a one time purchase.  I may be mistaken, but I think Apogee was a 20 year agreement for $1 million a year.  There used to be a list of facilities a person could purchase the naming rights to listed on the athletic department website.  These were a one time fee.

  3. Looks like he is from California, so not sure how we would work with his personal situation.  Held over 30 offers at one time, based on this article, and was rated 4 stars.

A 3 star by most services but a great offer list.

Now you are just trolling. Unless you seriously believe being accused of defending RV is a personal attack. Lol.

    Not to mention it's accurate.

Your M.O. is hilarious.  If the roles were reversed, you would be calling people out for attacking you or namecalling.  Your passive aggressiveness towards those that disagree with your approach towards the AD or your opinion has become as predictable as the sun setting in the west.

    Ernie wanted to keep RV.

    Smatresk wanted to fire RV.

Ernie allowed RV to be fired only if his family picks the new AD. And throw a scholarship for the 15 year old grandson in there too.

@UNT90 you were right.  You didn't make these claims.  You just chose to respond to my request for something to back up the above claims.  How about letting GRN-WHT do that, or are you one in the same?

  6. That rendering is confusing.  In the first picture, it appears that the fans enter on ground level, but would then have to go up a level to access their seats.  It is nice enough looking, but why build that small?  Their current stadium looks very small with the renovation "squaring off" the sideline stands and adding upper levels and end zone seating.  They are only gaining a few thousand seats for the money being spent.

Saw this on Facebook today. I wonder if the next AD will try to get him on board again to at least show us as a team or school he would be interested again. If not, the practice fields are up for bidding again...still can't believe RV let him name the fields after the Dickster after Mattress Mac threw a fit.

They are?  Where did you get this idea?

We all know the AD was a joke the last several years. I said I pray major issues aren't found. When you have bad, lazy management, it is a breeding ground for bad, lazy employees. A complete lack of accountability leads to abuses by some.

I hope an audit is done. It's needed after 15 years of the same leadership, anyway. Good leaders should do one at least every 5 years.

When was the last time the UNT AD underwent an audit?

If you don't get that Ernie is THE major contributor to UNT athletics, an ex BOR member, and has HUGE influence over AD decisions with multiple UNT power players, well, I just can't help you. The fact that he was in that position, RV was held unaccountable for a very long time, and RV is receiving a golden parachute of a pension should be all the evidence on needs.

True: Ernie is a major contributor to UNT athletics

True: Ernie is an ex-BOR member

Speculation: has HUGE influence over AD decisions with multiple UNT power players.

RV's Departure: I know you would prefer to kick him to the curb, but good business says to let him walk away with his dignity.  Reviewing what the athletic department looked like when he arrived, and where it is today says a lot.  Did he have his failures?  Sure.  Did he get lazy after Apogee was built and we got in to CUSA?  Sure.  But you can't ignore his accomplishments either.

You still like to dance around the facts, theorized to make your point and avoid direct questions relating to your posts.  I asked who else has made posts stating that Ernie made Mac disappear?  No answer.  In one post you state that Ernie wanted RV to stay.  I just asked where you heard/read that, no answer.  I asked again and then you state, "Well, that would be hard since Ernie never commented publicly about it."

I reply to your posts because they are full of speculation, wild assed theories and crap you can't back up.

You wanted RV gone and he is, so just let it go and see what happens.

Well, that would be hard since Ernie has never commented publicly about it. Ernie is a huge donor. Ernie made Mac disappear (if you believe other people. You must, because I'm the only one you ever question). Ernie was on the BOR and has direct connections to the current BOR members. UNT is paying off the contract of Rick Villarreal and I would be willing to bet making sure he gets his 20 year state pension.

Examine the evidence. That's what we do in these cases. Maybe Ernie finally came to the conclusion that RV couldn't get it done, but he was WAY late getting to that table. I think he still wants his little buddy taken care of with a state pension.

Lazy, bad leadership can lead to a whole host of other problems. I hope a complete audit of the AD occurs when the new guy comes in, and I pray to God major issues aren't found.

Examine the evidence?  You have yet to produce any, just theories and speculation.  I question you about your comments on Kuehne and you respond that I should look at Fly's posts.  Ernie Kuehne is not the only person on the BOR.  RV is not Ernie's employee.  RV reports to the President of the university.  As GangGreen stated, you demand that we examine the evidence,  yet you only speculate.  Now you act like major issues are going to be uncovered by the new AD.  Again, pure speculation on your part because you have yet to produce a fact or a shred of evidence.

Who else has posted that Ernie made Mac disappear?  I don't recall anyone but you, but if you can produce other's comments, please feel free.

Fly and Ernie are thick as thieves. Fly did not want Rick Villarreal fired and thought he was doing a good job and expressed so on this board. It wasn't the "praise in public, criticize in private" crap that he and others always threw out. If that were the case, Fly would have just not said anything. He actively defended his friend RV very publicly on this forum. If you want to dig to find that mess, have at it.

There was clearly a power struggle that was somehow eventually won by Smatresk andhe c RV was fired. That is the reality of the situation. The fact that Fly and Ernie protected RV for so long throws a huge cloud of doubt on the whole "he doesn't accept losing" bullcrap being floated out there. He did accept losing because he cared more about RV than he did winning.

Let's hope that never happens again.

Such convoluted theorizing on your part and so typical.  You claimed Ernie wanted RV to stay, Smatresk wanted him gone and that Ernie allowed this with the stipulations that he and his family get to pick the new AD and his grandson gets a scholarship.  I questioned this and your response was to check Fly's posts.  What does he have to do with any of this.

Now you change gears again and throw out the response above that is full of accusations.  You have provided zero facts in support of your comments.  That is all I ask.  Show me once, just once, where Ernie said RV had to stay, where he had to be involved in the hiring of the new AD, etc....  Ernie, not Fly.

I'm taking the beat writer who keeps in contact with the coaching staff over the fan website on whether or not there was an offer.

Also, you may not see Nebraska as a temple of higher learning.  However, unlike UNT, Nebraksa was a member of the AAU.  And, in the end, his transcripts show him unable to attend Nebraska, but able to attend UNT.  Draw your own conclusions.

It's a nice get...same as the get by McCarney's staff of McNair last summer.

The "fan website" linked a tweet from a JUCO recruiting source and linked Husker Nation.  It just wasn't some fan.

So where are these, as you state, three colleges he attended since his high school graduation in 2013?

In the end, taking a backhanded swipe at a big recruit is ridiculous, as is comparing Littrell's staff, that hasn't been in Denton for even an entire year to Mac's staff that had been here multiple years.  The NU beat writer might want to help NU save face over losing a recruit to UNT (North Texas State and Northern Texas, as some of their fans refer) just as our beat writer might want our recruit to look better by reporting offers from NU and Alabama.  I have no reason to doubt the reports that state he did receive these offers.  I just hope he gets to Denton, keeps his academics in order and produces as expected for our football team.

  12. Once again, sarcasm is lost on you.  But, don't let that stop you from making assumptions about my aspirations for this university and athletic department.  As my Dad use to say, there is more than one way to skin a cat.  I think we want the same results in the end, we just go about things differently.  Just because I don't agree with how you choose to handle things and don't believe that everything you post is right doesn't mean I don't have the same expectations.  Something tells me you ego has trouble understanding this line of thinking.

Again, as I stated in response to FFR's quote, the forwarding of an email could have been the actions of his admin helping delegate some issues off of the president's plate.  The admin having access to his work email is common, as is managing his schedule and prioritizing tasks.

Eighth post on this page, #263, states he did receive an offer.  I also saw the comments that he played at three different JUCO's, but could not find anything to confirm that comment.  I did find that he transferred high schools and graduated in 2013, but only find that he attended Los Angeles Valley.  I don't see Nebraska as being this "Temple of Higher Learning" and having too terribly difficult admission requirements probably on par with UNT's.

You haven't really lived until you type out an email to the president's email address,...hit "Send", and your cell phone rings 5 minutes later and it's RV asking what your problem is?

    OANT

    Rick

Have you ever stopped to think that President Smatresk's administrative assistant probably reviews his incoming emails, saw it was athletic's related and sent it on?  That is not uncommon in the business world.  Admins., especially the one's good at their job, have the freedom to determine what is important and requires their boss's response and what is not necessarily as important and can be handled by someone else.
