    Also:
UNT finished this past season 19-15 with a NET ranking of 79 (7th in AAC)
UNM finished this past season 26-10, with a NET ranking of 22 and an at-large 11 seed in the NCAA tournament as the 6th place finisher in the MWC.   Seems like maybe the NCAA tournament selection committee "cares about them".

Given the above, it would seem UMN's program is a little more "competitive recently".

    Recent Records/Success:

    22-23 Season

UNM: L 1st round of NIT

    NT: Won the NIT

    21-22 Season

    UNM: 13-19

    NT: 25-7; L 2nd round of NIT

    20-21 Season

    UNM: 6-16

NT: 18-10; Beat #3 Purdue in opening round of NCAA before falling to VIllanova

    19-20 Season

    UNM: 19-14

    NT: 20-11

    Post seasons cancelled.

    I'll miss CJ.
Those of you saying it's a "lateral move" have never been to a game in the Pit, or have any knowledge of the overall CBB landscape, with MWC basketball being a very respected conference.   They have a rabid fanbase, and I'm willing to bet the bump in NIL is noticeable.

The Pit is an incredible facility that I hope NT's new arena will be modeled after.   I got to take in the NT victory over UNM back in McCasland's 2nd year.   One of my favorite memories of NT Sports.

I was one that said it was a lateral move.  My comparison is on court success.

We should fill the SP and it should be rocking

C.J. must like ugly women and limited access for fun as well.

Lived in Albuquerque for many years.  They are the only game in town and the fans show up for the games.  You couldn't get a game for years.  The last five years they were not good and the crowd thinned and tickets were available and attendance was way down.  I sure if they are winning now they are drawing a crowd.  UNM is truly a commuter school.    They have a medical school and an engineering school.  The campus is located in not a great area of town.   Hope he finds happiness there.

He’ll be on the move after this year.

Strange— but at a more historic program, better perceived conference and I would think slightly better NIL.

In a crappy state at a university that is known for?  Have no idea what he wants, or Edwards,  but thanks for your one year here. Now bye. Don’t really care if you fail or succeed.

Don't think she's hurt. I think RD is just easing her back into things...after that rough outing against the Ags.

Glad our gals took care of business. MU is the worst team I've ever watched. Horribly coached. I bet you they bobbled 15 balls this weekend. (Like on throws to first or third. Even when we'd hit a ground ball single to the OF.....many times they bobbled it--allowing us to get an extra base (or two). Go Mean Green!

I agree on Childers.  She had lost the strike zone, and with it, her confidence.  DeLong put her in situations to succeed and she looked like her old self today.  It appears she gets in trouble trying to overthrow the ball instead of trusting what she has.  He stuff is electric.  Good to see her with a smile on her face after the game.

Memphis is horrible.  99.9% of the mistakes they made were just from being lazy fielding the ball.  Their coach has a good background, and this must be frustrating to her, but that roster needs an overhaul.  They may have already given up on the season. The only player that impressed me in the field was their shortstop.

I would like to thank the ladies for taking my advice.

Great game.  Could have scored four or five more runs.  Savage was solid in the circle and Simon made a great play in the hole.  Let's go sweep this.

Need Childers to find her mojo.

But we let a bad call at second that would have been the third out snowball into six more runs to put the game out of reach early.

That call/rule is ridiculous. I would love to hear an explanation as to how they expect the fielder to make that play that would not result in that call. That, to me, was the turning point in the game.

I've been thinking about this comment as well. This seems to be our biggest fault of our women's programs, who overall are usually pretty solid. Soccer vs. TTU, SMU, women's basketball vs. TAMU, TCU, and our softball team against most power conference teams the last few years. I remember in the recent past our softball ladies used to be good for at least one win over Baylor in their own tournament every year for a few seasons in a row. Now on nights like Wednesday, we play like we're not both competing for the same championship.

I didn't get this feeling from watching on ESPN+.  Did it feel that way for you all that were there in person?  Are we in awe, or are we just trying too hard and get off our game?

  9. Currently tied for eight with ECU after round one at +6.  The leaders are at -3.

The good news is that Tucker Allen is tied for first in the medalist race at -4.  Our 3-5 players need to step up.  I found it interesting that Diego Prone, our best returning player, didn't play the opening round.

Averaged 4.7 pts, 2.4 rebounds, 17 minutes a game for a 14-19 La Tech team

With NT already with 2 hs guards signed, and most of last year's guards with eligibility left, I wonder about this signing.

    We return the following guards:

5'9" So. Breanna Davis: Only played in 13 games  (Daughter of Chris Davis)

5'8" So. Ereauna Hardaway: Started at PG.  Good floor manager but doesn't score much.

5'8" R-Fr Desiree Wooten: Has the potential to be very good.

5'11" R-Fr Jahcelyn Hartfield: Only played in 7 games coming off an injured freshman year.

5'11" Fr. Shadasia Brackens: Played in 21 games.  Incredible athlete that has the potential to be great.

Brackens is listed as a G/F.  Hartfield, with her height, could also play F.

Brannon shot 40% from 3 this past year and provides experience this team needs since we lost Sham Duncan, J Moore, D Robinson and M Clearly from the backcourt.

I already know about him.  Deion was on him all year for his lack of work ethic.

    EDIT: https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/from-colorado-to-transfer-portal-is-there-a-path-of-redemption-for-cormani-mcclain/

Yep.  This won't change Deon's coaching style.  This kid, like many before him and many will follow, thinks he is too good and doesn't have the work ethic.  Through HS they get by on talent alone, but now he is surrounded by talent and work ethic makes the difference.  This kid will fail wherever he goes unless he changes his attitude.

Wasn't he injured in high school which kind of allowed us to swoop in pick him up?

I wonder if he was progressing.  Is he entering the portal?

I may have uncovered why he is leaving.  He signed as a 6' 205 lb. LB and after a year in our program he shrunk from 6' to 5'10" and ballooned to 220 lb.

(someone will get upset or dispute that last sentence thinking I was serious)

Because that takes legwork and forward thinking. Let's not be silly.

I started paying attention to UNT in 2011. Got plugged in around 2012, and started to pay very closer attention in late 12/ early 2013. The athletic department has done nothing but prove its a good ole boy system filled with self serving people from top to bottom.

I said it a few days ago, but the University has to look into the hiring processes and the hiring of North Texas people must be the next step. Put a lighter on the do nothing leeches and get people in there that care more about the success of North Texas than they do about the success of themselves.

    Spot on.

You're spot on. But the university has been playing into that hippy weird BS for a long time, too.

And we can bring demographics into this, too. And for good or bad, I don't know; nor do I really care. But conservative white boys/men is the driving force behind the consumption of and donating base to collegiate athletics. The university goes out of its way to diversify the enrollment. Which is fine and all, but it's just another variable pulling away from athletics. And there seems to be a lot of variables, controllable and uncontrollable. Why do you think the SEC can whip whoever they want with money at a moments notice? Answer: White conservative men throwing money at their collectives and scholarship funds.

Yep.  About the only thing NT and Denton have successfully partnered on.

LOL.  SMU is small potatoes in why college athletics is in its current state.  You really think SMU was even the most egregious cheater in the 80's halcyon days?  Get real.  Paying players is as old as the game itself.  What has changed in the last 10-15 years is the amplification of money via social media as well as TV contracts that have ballooned raising everything from coaches salaries to facilities to yes.....NIL.

Blaming SMU for anything to do with where things are headed in college athletics is beyond stupid.  Everything that's being done now is being directed by the TV suits.  Nothing more.  Nothing less.  You're letting hatred blind you.

Missed my point.  The NIL was created to allow players to earn money off of their "Name, Image and Likeness".  Schools, smuT comes to mind, decided to bend the rules and create collectives to essentially pay kids a salary for being on the roster.  Had nothing at all to do with NIL.  The NCAA got scared of being sued and drop the ball and set this up with zero oversight.

The change, to me, is this.  I support UNT because it is my school.  I liked watching kids like Scott Hall, Johnny Quinn, Patrick Cobbs, etc. sign with NT, fall in love with playing here, work hard, develop over their four years, honor them on Senior Day and become Hall of Famers.  That is gone.  Today's kids are loyal to the money and don't give a damn about NT.

Sorry I'm not buying that.  UNT can and should be among the upper tier of G5 programs.  Location alone gives you a huge advantage.  Facilities are among the top half of G5.  Coaches are being compensated at or near the top of the AAC.  The foundation is there.

NIL, for better or worse, is the new coin of the realm (along with the portal).  It can be done.  I'd rather have the resources at UNT as opposed to nearly all other G5's.

I believe this, but it would take the city getting involved and the AD giving two shits about the future of this program.  All they do is ask the alumni to give and give more.  What is my ROI?  Watching Edwards and Nolan show up for a year and then move along?  I would rather give that money to a scholarship my family established at North Texas to provide for current students and young men and women that are preparing for their future.

UNT has wasted opportunity after opportunity to move up.  They own valuable I35 real estate that millions of vehicles pass daily.  Any naming rights sold for those facilities?  Memphis has the FedEx Forum.  Why not the Peterbilt Super Pit with signage along the roof of the building?
