  1. MM's dunk may well have come in the exhibition game, but I want to say it was against Angelo or UNC-Wilmington. Not to sure, but it was pretty early in the year...
  2. We will not be playing TWU, it is in the contract that we will play here, probably the prime time game.
  3. correction, i counted 54 students at the game Monday night
  4. I believe that the TCU game killed the attendence this year. Had we won that game, I believe more people would have come out to see us. I believe the only way we will see a normal "decent" crowd will be if we were to make it to the SBC Tourny Final. Making it to the dance, is so much more bigger than winning in football or any other sport. Then again it would be embarrising to see us in the tourny final and have a crowd of only 2000 or so.
  5. I don't understand all the fighting and personally I don't care. Being a freshman here, I understand that most people I know do know about the basketball team but choose not to go. I have heard a variety of reasons of why people won't always come with me. Most of the time it's that they just don't care and don't want to go. I don't know how to fix it, but I do my best and come to every game.
  6. wasn't better than the 3 point miss, that MM dunked in earlier in the year...
  7. you got that right, pretty much all of it. They didn't even bother to play defense on the last play, just gave them a shot to win. You have to either gaurd the inbounds or front the players going towards the ball...blowing a 26 point lead in the FIRST half doesn't help much either. Atleast we have a cupcake Monday night for Micah Effin Bracy poster night.
  8. They should have either guarded the inbound, or should have fronted the players running towards the inbounder, and had the extra defender inside half-court to help out on the long pass.
  9. Maybe we could come close to filling the lower level when Tech comes in next year... <_
  10. This is JJ fourth season, and he is still playing with players that aren't "his" players. I don't think his firing would help basketball program, and when you fire someone you better have a better replacement ready. I was very impressed with the way the team played at Alabama, and I believe that JJ or whoever is in charge of the scheduel for the next few years will get some big names on the list. Playing teams like Alabama and Texas are great for exposure (maybe not the Texas defeat), but the Alabama game is great for the program. If he can continue to get good recruits and get exposure for the program, I don't have any issue with him being the head basketball coach. I feel that he is moving the program in the right direction, is this team not 100 percent better than when he took over?
  11. It may be V-Day, but I also hear it's Micah Effin Bracy poster night!
  12. This team cannot be overlooked, in fact any team that we are playing cannot be overlooked the way we have been playing as of late. I was able to watch some of the NMSU game on the dish at my friends house last Thursday, and they should have beaten Denver, in Denver. Despite the teams horrible record, they are able to light it up and if we come in not ready to play, we could very well lose again. The team needs to be metally prepared to play tonight, and they need to start being a much more physical team. They give up way too many offensive rebounds and lack the desire to play great defense. I think that a good game tonight could be a much needed turn around they need going into what is arguably the hardest part of the confrence schedule.
  13. I think that Sturns, after playing well in the first few games got a little too full of himself. Looks like he assumed it would just be that easy night in and night out, and he has realized that he has to continue to grow if he wants to be a positve contributor to this team. I think that tomorrow night you will see a lot of Simpson and Barnett on the floor at the same time. Watson probably won't get a start tomorrow night, and I wouldn't be suprised if Jones didn't start either. LL is a smaller team, that attacks the basket, and loves to get offensive boards. JJ might try to outpower them with size and get the best rebounders on the floor at the same time. LL likes to get out and run the break too, so if you try to go big and don't control the glass then they will run all over you.
  14. on another note? a couch at the games? since when?
  15. Couldn't agree with you any more. Watson and Hopkins both always feel as though they must do it all. Count the number of times Watson DOESN'T throw the ball inside when a big man is open on the block. I don't feel that Watson is a selfish player, but believes to much in himself or lacks confidence in any teamate. Maybe he just wants to be the star, but either way he needs to learn that he is talented enough that he can still get his, and make his teamates better players at the same time.
  16. The game was televised here also on the local ACC channel. WKU looks a lot better than we have been playing of late. They clearly are the team to beat in the Belt this year again.
  17. You have to give them some credit, they did miss only 2 or 3 free throws, and i didn't see them hit the rim on a freethrow attempt all night except for those misses. They have a lot of size, a lot of speed and a lot of skill. The officials went way beyond there zones tonight. Having been an official, it's obvious to me that they all called way too much outside of their secondary zones. It makes their partners look really bad when someone across court blows a whistle with the ball in your primary. Not that I disagreed with most of the calls, just that they did not do a good job "selling" the calls. In "Ref School" you are taught that selling a call is as, if not more important, than making the call right. But UT did make big plays when they had to and knocked down big shots. Our women played tough, and hung in there. That's about all you can ask, is to have a chance against an excellent team like Texas.
  18. Without Barnett, the team will be forced to get deeper. The team will be forced to go quicker and smaller, with a possibility of playing Jones and Harris at the same time. This team will be much faster, not to take anything away from Barnett, but the speed and ability to play a little more agressive on defense may be what this team needs to get to the next level. This should not be a game tonight, and we should be able to dominate tonight. GMG!
  19. I missed the game tonight and was unable to catch it on the radio? I checked out the boxscore, Watson and Barnett went off tonight. Looks like Hopkins played well, and Sturns looks to have had a decent night also. Anything anyone could tell me more would be great, thanks.
  20. We need to play some tough defense tonight. UT can hit them from downtown, the guys better be ready to defend tonight. UT will make a run, we must just be able to withstand it and not break. This team can score with UT, but it will come down to the defensive in.
  21. What is with the whole "Yankee" thing anyway? It does bother me that people I meet in Texas think NY/Boston/Philly is a giant metroplex like Dallas and Ft. Worth. I do enjoy it down here, though I do miss the quicker pace of the east coast. We will beat UT tomorrow.
  22. From all my fellow students who attended the game, thought the game was pretty fun, even though we played pretty bad. Most of them said that they would be glad to come back to more games, and would try to bring others. It was nice to hear the place get loud at a few points, even though the band played during the "North" - "Texas" chant. If you put out a good product and have a good atmosphere more people will come, even if the majority of the people here hate sports.
  23. How about the team plays well, wins games, gets everyone free burgers and more people would show up. Let the Pit Crew keep doing there thing, and let people hear how much fun COLLEGE games are. Those would be good suggestions if you want to entertain people at Mav's games, but shouldn't the college atomosphere be enough (with a winning product) to put people in the seats? It would for me, but I may be the only one .
  24. Next year we will play an incredibly tough out of confrence games, anytime you can play two top tier schools like Alabama and Texas in the same year is a great way to get started. For being at such a low level program that we are, and how JJ is using transfers to help boast the program, he needs one good if not great year with some overachieving (hopefully this year they win the conf tourny) and start getting some of the good recruits in the dfw/ok region. With a lot of big games set for next year, all things seem to be looking up.
  25. We did lose this game because of the injury to Hines. The officials where doing a fine job, letting them play until Hines got hit in the face and JJ went nuts. After that there was a few hards fouls in a row, and the officials had to start calling EVERYTHING to attempt to get control of the game back. However, they went too far, thus preventing the game from ever happening. Not only can Hines run the team on offense, but is one of the better defensive players on this team. TCU point gaurd, made plenty of plays that he would not have made had Hines been gaurding him. Sturns may soon become a solid contributor to this team, but right now he is a between a role player and a contributor. Having Mike Jones with two fouls and sitting nearly the whole first half hurt real bad. They needed someone like Thomas, or Harris too step up tonight and they didn't. However Williams step up big, grabbing like 13 rebounds and contributing some points. Overall, despite the L, and the injury it was nice to see people in the seats tonight. With a crowd of 3663, and a few instances it actually got loud, which hasn't happened in a long time. Hopefully people will spread the word that NT basketball games are fun and exciting and keep this crowd steadily growing every night out. Now it's time to take down the Horns.
