  1. b/c I'm not a subscriber I have no idea of the content of the MGR.

I can report rumors from Austin that another reason Mack wanted practices closed is Vince Young is throwing in the dirt. His midrange is phhhhllltttt.

    Just rumor and gossip.

    How long til kickoff?

  2. Allow me blow this out of proportion. This is the kind of great publicity that will attract people to Fouts. Ask the guys at Ok St. when Barry Sanders was there. The fans knew he was great, and some of the media, but it's Stillwater afterall. People from Tulsa don't even go there. We are nestled in the backyard of DFW, so we have a lot more people to draw from. If we win a few OOC games, we may be looking at good crowds. Bigger crowds = more money, more money = new facilities. Plumm take it from here...

    Longhorns close practices

AUSTIN, Texas -- As a result of concerns over student and family privacy issues, Longhorn coach Mack Brown has closed all but one of Texas' remaining preseason practices. Closed practices will take effect on Saturday, Aug. 13. The exception will be Fan Appreciation Day presented by Kia on Saturday, Aug. 20, which will kickoff with a 9 a.m. scrimmage in Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.

"A parent should never have to read on the Internet or hear through the media that their son has been hurt before we can even get off of the practice field and call them," Brown said. "It's our responsibility to protect the privacy of our student-athletes with regard to injuries. It's just not right for a report to be posted immediately regarding an injury before we even have the chance to determine the extent of it."

Brown said the Longhorn training staff will continue to provide accurate injury information once it's available.

"We appreciate our fans and this is not something we have wanted to do, but I feel it's our responsibility to our kids and their families," Brown said.

Longhorn football practices during the season have been closed for several years. Friday's workout was open to fans.

  4. Pretty decent upbeat interview. Mostly, it was just coach stuff. "We've gotta fight harder", "We've had success, but we need consistency" etc.

I can't believe I'm starting to like this guy...and it's only taken, what 5 years.

  5. I think the NCAA has overreached it's bounds. The one thing I haven't heard is outrage by Native American groups about the use of various nicknames. None of the articles cite tribal leaders, or mention any group of any kind that may be upset about this.

And Plumm, I'm one of those "gol' darn liberal do-gooders", but "revisionist". ?I have no idea what that refers to. I suggest reading "Lies my teacher told me". A wonderful book about how our history books in classrooms are just wrong! So I wouldn't call it revision, but an accurate telling of history would be nice, though.

  6. Do not repost copyright material

Is that copyrighted material or premium material? I search AP at work all the time and occasionaly cut and paste it here. Premium material I understand b/c it's paid for, but if it's free and copyrighted, do we just need to provide a link? I'm so confused.

Dr. Glick's "Broadcast law" class was so long ago and I don't think the 'net was around then. At least not on my Commodore.

    GO MEAN GREEN!!!!!!!!

  7. I think Dickey should have been able to develop a couple of options at QB by now. One was lost by tragedy, and one has flunked out. How good were his recruiting skills? We'll find out. Speaking of recruiting how's DeLoach doing? He was our best defensive recruiter / coach. I think our defense has sufffered w/o him.

    GO MEAN GREEN

  8. You know, going to school is hard enough, but to go through this crap as well is a lot of pressure. And just imagine being at a school where millions of dollars riding on your performance. I'm vowing not to read anymore posts with the topic line as his eligibility. When our athletic deprtment has something to say, I'll listen.

  9. Just a side note here, but my high school (Longview High School) used the term "Mean Green" in reference to the defense ("Mean Green D", as I recall). And the marching band was know as the "Mean Green Marching Machine" (Yes, I was a band geek). I don't know if it was lifted from NT, and I don't know if they still use it, but the term has been used in places other than North Texas.

    GO MEAN GREEN !!!!!!
