Thornton graduated from Rice. Very impressive accomplishment.

Hope he can get here and learn the system ASAP. Will be nice to add a proven CUSA starter to our CB rotation. We have a lot of options at CB, just need a few of them we can rely on.

Feel like this is the biggest news (maybe outside of Ruder) of the offseason.

  2. Yeah, they thought Purdue was going to win. They spent most of their time talking about Purdue because they were playing up talking points for when they won. To which we responded with...

I can’t rationalize some of the things we are doing on the offensive end this year. Why is 5’11” JJ Murray our guy in the middle of the floor in attacking the zone? Same swinging the ball around the perimeter again as well.

Hearing Mccasland talk basketball, he is a really smart guy. I don’t get how these are the decisions he lands on though.

I think he trusts these guys a little too much. This is the worst outside shooting team since he's been here. In the past he could rely on waiting for a good shot and then that person making it. This team doesn't have enough good shooters. It's 4 on 5 most nights and even worse when the bench comes on.

They still play hard, good on defense and know what they are doing so it is at least not annoying to watch, just not a good enough shooting team to play his style.

Me reading “small school” in reference to North Texas:

I was about to say I'm sure we all know this but size doesn't mean enrollment size, but budget size but then...

Attended Northeastern... an actual small-school.  In the same article he mentions a WMU player with zero mentioning of the school's size (less than half our North Texas's student body).

Well reviewed Blake... I mean Blaine!

Zach has really stepped up this season and become a true leader on this team. Also crazy the transformation that Ousman has had, not even fully through his first season here. It was clear early that he was out of shape but he has really transformed himself and brings so much more energy now. Keep putting in that work

Yep can't wait until the next game to hear the announcers mention that he lost 20 something pounds. Feels like maybe UNT should just make that his nickname so that the announcers have to talk about his game during the game rather than always bringing that up.
Abou "Down 20 Pounds" Ausmane is really moving his feet well etc.

    Hindsight is clearly 20-20 here.

When Littrell signed the last deal, it was EVERYONE'S extension.   There were maybe a handful of people around here who were pissed about him losing the NO Bowl & NM Bowl, but for the most part everyone was extremely nervous when Littrell flirted with KSSt. & were 99% on-board with an extension to keep the best up-and-coming HC in C-USA at North Texas... at least until the next P5 school came calling the following offseason.

Flash-forward & here we are, 2 years later (2 years without Harrell?)... the regression is STAGGERING.  I don't believe anyone saw this coming.   I understand the budget constraints wont allow to buyout now, but Wren's seat is now hot as well, so if I were him, I'd be raising funds on the side and be ready to end the suffering immediately following this upcoming season.

Littrell would be a fool to believe he's not coaching for his job this upcoming season.   I'm extremely impressed (and thankful) with how he was able to sign the class he signed in December, because these kids , and more importantly, their parents, aren't dumb.  They see the trajectory.   I'd expect a big step back in recruiting this year unless he's somehow able to turn this ship around quickly.  Fingers crossed!

Look, I can't get credit because doubt I posted my thoughts on the extension back then, but here was what I was thinking.

I was a little nervous if he leaves because he had clearly shown to me at least he could coach. I see a lot of hot takes about how he can't coach but it would seem that taking a team from 1 win to 9 in two years shows you can.

On the other hand, at the time he actually hadn't really won anything. His team had blown the chance at a big season when we lost to UTSA one year. We had been clobbered in a CUSA title game. We hadn't done too well in bowl games. We had a dream start to a season including the Arkansas win, and then that season/team fell apart.

So I was well nervous because you never know what the next hire will do, but also hoping that maybe the next guy would take it further.

At this point the rhetoric is he can't coach, but I doubt that. Or well this is what you get with a first time coach. And while I agree with that to an extent he has been here 5 years. He should be learning a lot along the way. It is possible that he made key mistakes that he cannot bounce back from but some other program will benefit from next (this would be soul crushing). It's hard for most of us to know.

As for Wren, I have confidence in that he will find a coach who has experience and has been successful (Mens basketball and softball hires model if you will). So I'm not that worried about it.

  7. Overall much improved. At least it didn't take until the 2nd half to start fighting like it did in the last few games.

Players helping us on the court:
    Hamlet
    Jones
    Lewis
Bell (if he plays within himself)
    Ousmane
    Murray (if he doesn't shoot)

    Players who aren't:
    Reese
    McBride
    Simmons

I don’t see why this should even be a question going at the moment. I think Aune will get the start, but what worries me is Littrell saying he expects both to play unless one stays hot.

Most concerning part of what he has said. It's been proven by statisticians that there is no such thing as getting hot. Whatever you are you are. If you are a 50% completion guy that doesn't mean that you complete one miss one, complete one miss one etc. It means over time you will complete 50%. Sometimes complete 4 in a row, sometimes miss 10 in a row. That's not getting hot, it's just math.

Now, yes they can improve that % based on experience, talent and work ethic etc. The main problem seems to be he can't tell which guy has the most talent and work ethic so he can give him the experience. Because if he could, that'd be the guy he'd take his lumps with and go until proven otherwise.

But another issue we have appears to be completely mental. I think the team and staff really feel how much this game means to us. And when things go bad, it’s as if the pressure they feel gets raised even higher, thus leading to mistakes.

Maybe this will help then? I don't care that much about beating SMU. I'd much rather beat La. Tech. & FAU

Any sanctioned tailgating you mean🙂If no tailgating the Pre party bar(s) are going to be off the chain!

    From this article
    "Tailgating

The Governor's executive order at this time does not permit any sanctioned tailgating activities larger than 10 people for attendees. As a result, UNT will not be offering rental tents or sponsored activities on The Hill, Eagle Point, or in parking lots until these restrictions are lifted. Any groups fewer than 10 must adhere to local and state COVID-19 safety requirements including, but not limited to, face coverings, social distancing and number of attendees."
