  1. Can I just throw this in: How can anyone quantify the amount of national publicity that JJ has gotten the school (twice). When you get into the NCAA tourney, your school's name is in papers and on millions of NCAA brackets that people fill out. So how much is that worth? Lots.

So all in all, I don't think you could say our program costs the school money. It probably makes the school money....but once again there's no way to quantify it. (I do know of students who've chosen NT because they saw us in a bowl game or in the NCAA tourney, for example).

Very well said. I remember watching the 2001 New Orleans Bowl game on ESPN my senior year of high school. I decided about one month later to attend UNT. I'm not sure that I went to UNT only because of that bowl game, but it sure did help.

  2. so me and my roomates are going to hot springs and i need some help... im a college kid and need somewhere to stay and need it cheap if possible.. please help cause im clueless in this area... also what is there to do during off time when our guys and non interest games come about... thanks for your help and im planning on staying 4 or 5 days if possible

There are some cheaper hotels to stay at closer to the race track, south of the arena and downtown area. Just pile everybody in to one room and bring sleeping bags or something. There is a horse track for gambling, some bath houses, and other stuff to see. The downtown area is pretty cool to check out. Honestly, I end up spending most of my time inside the arena. If you are a basketball fan, you'll be amazed at how much the intensity level goes up in the tournament when everyone is playing to stay alive.

  3. ASU clinches the W1 seed with a win and the winner of WKU/MTSU gets the E2 seed. If we win tonight, the game with UALR Tuesday will basically be a playoff for the W4 seed. If we lose tonight, we get the W5 seed. It all may seem irrelevant, but if we can get back on track we are going to need a good path in the tourney to have any chance of winning it. I would not mind playing ASU again even though they will have a large crowd.

If we lose tonight vs. Denver and UALR loses at Arkansas St, wouldn't Tuesday's game still be a playoff for W4 seed. We could tie them in the standings with a win, and would get the 4 seed since we beat them twice. Am I missing something here?

  4. Here is the bracket heading into tonight. We have the possibility of being seeded anywhere from W2-W5. If we get seeded W2 (the least likely) we will play the winner of ULM and WKU/MTSU. If we do not get a bye, our first round opponent will likely be either Troy, USA, or FIU, although if WKU collapses late, they could be a first round opponent as well. The teams in Red are locked into their seed. In my opinion, the W5 seed has the easiest path of any non-bye seed right now.

That was my thought as well. You avoid both Arkansas schools (who have more of a homecourt than anyone), and you have WKU and FAU on the other side of the bracket. Of course, all of that could quickly change tonight.

  5. We are staying at the Austin, which is walking distance to downtown, Lucky's Bar (the official Mean Green spot), and the arena. Not the best of hotels, but a great location and perfectly acceptable. I believe the team is staying there again. I think it was $115 a night, but you can find cheaper by going farther south between downtown and the lake.

As far as live music, I'm sure a local can help you find a good spot somewhere. There was actually more of a nightlife scene than I expected.

  6. Go to the tourney... You can drink a whole lot with some great North Texas fans until 5AM (which is plenty late enough) and you don't have to see any 60+ year olds running around flashing everyone in sight.

Now, if we get back to the New Orleans Bowl soon, I highly recommend that trip. College bowl games bring a lot of students, and the beads thing is not just for Mardi Gras. I'm sure you get my drift.

  7. One thing that stood out to me was the emergency conference in New Orleans when all of these rules were laid out. Only 6 teams voted against the new Death Penalty rules, 3 of them in the old Southwest Conference. SMU, Houston, and Texas voted against it. At least Houston and Texas were smart enough to stop (or at least not get caught). I didn't realize how much cheating was going on in that old conference.

  8. Our seats are in the end zone, too. I think that is where they have moved the visiting fans. The last time we were there we sat on the side opposite the press box at about the ten yard line. In watching the Army vs Hawaii game last Saturday, it looks like the Corps of Cadets is now sitting there.

Mine as well. We are in Section 3, Row J.
