Anybody know of any bars in the Metroplex that will be North Texas friendly to watch the game Saturday. Myself and a couple others want to watch the game somewhere but don't want to be surrounded by a bunch of Texas fans.
Let me know where you are watching the game or where you know some other North Texas fans will be.

Scattered thunderstorms, high of 97, chance of rain 60%
I think rain during this game will be beneficial for North Texas. The more rain in Austin on Sept. 2, the better as far as I'm concerned.
Of couse it is 10 days away, and we all know how much weather forecasts will change between now and then.

No, definately not a pyramid scheme. Just an investment opportunity for North Texas alumni to help themselves and their school.

I understand that some of the folks on this board are a probably in their early 20's just starting out, but here's an issue I have. We (we meaning UNT grads) need to stop worrying about who's going to hire us and start worrying about who are WE GOING TO HIRE. Yes, I know it is a bizzare, probably scary statement but the more entrepreneurs and self starters out there we have the better off we are going to be as a university. Why do you think that aggies seeem to have such a good network of connections? Is it because they are better students than us? Better educated? Hell no- that is ridiculous. The reason is because they look out for each other. They hire one another.
Is there any reason UNT grads could not do that? No. But what we need to do is to break out of this mind game of inferiority complexes and to filp the table. Hire other UNT grads. Network. Start your own company. Save your pennies. Don't buy a BMW when you could invest it in a revenue generating asset. Yes there is some truth to who you know is more than what you know, but the only way to turn the tables on that is to start out on your own. UNT has a great Murphy Center for entrepreneurship. Use it.
ASK NOT WHO WILL HIRE ME BUT WHO WILL I HIRE!!!!!!
queue marching music.
What a great thought Stan. I just graduated with an entrepreneurship degree this May and I definately plan to hire North Texas grads when I start my own business. At my current job, I always try to hire current North Texas students.
Your thought couldn't help but make me think. What if North Texas alumni gathered together to start a business, taking investments from local alumni, such as members on this board. Everyone could receive stock in the company for their investment, giving North Texas alumni and even current students the ability to invest in a North Texas alumni-run company. We could even donate a percentage of the company to the athletic department as well as the University in general. Maybe the athletic department and the University would openly support the venture considering it actually owned a part of the company.
I'm just throwing ideas around? What does everyone think?

Well, I guess I know I'll never be as good as PlummMeanGreen.

I've been a member of gmg.com for a long time, but I mostly just read others posts. Forgive me for my long-awaited Plumm-type post.
I've been thinking alot lately about the state of our beloved University and what I can do to help out. Last night, I saw on the news that UT is now the #1 ranked party school in the country as well. I thought to myself, damn, they're good at everything! As much as I personally despise the University of Texas (and always will), I think it is a good model for where we want our University to be in the near future.
With that being said, I applaud our new President for making North Texas a national university a top priority. With this, I completely agree. UT is definately a national university and well-respected at that.
I also read the article posted here from espn.com talking about the difference in budgets from UT and North Texas. It's absolutely amazing the disparity with money among Division I-A ( or whatever it's called now) schools.
Why is it that a lot of alumni simply don't care? Why is it that alot of our current students don't care? Why is it that alot of current faculty and even administration don't care? I have no explanation for this.
So, all of us here on this board are here for the betterment (is that a word?) of our University. Whether it's football, basketball, volleyball, soccer, swimming, or any other sport. Whether it's a better business, art, music, english, biology department. We all want North Texas to be the best it can be at everything it does. That's how UT has gotten to be how it is.
OK, so what can we do about it. Well, first of all, we stand behind our school. We defend our school if other's are putting it down. We attend every single sporting event we possibly can, not just football home games, everything. Football, basketball, soccer, volleyball, track and field. Everything. Of couse, not all of us are able to do that because of work/family/travel concerns. However, do everything that you possibly can to help out.
Next, we donate money. Again, not all of us are in a position to do this. I just graduated this May and I'm starting to get my post-college life together. Do I have a bunch of extra money laying around to donate? No. However, I have already begun to plan donations in the future. Donate where you feel it is most needed. Maybe it's toward a new stadium, athletic scholarships, a general scholarship fund, a University Union fund, a campus beautification fund, wherever you feel it can best be used.
Also, buy season tickets. I bought 6 season tickets for myself and some friends. Even though my new job may prohibit me from attending a game or two, I can definately find someone to take my tickets. Maybe even buy a few extras and plan to give them to co-workers. I read alot about people doing this here on the board and I think it's great. Keep up the good work!
Wear your Mean Green gear. Not just on Game Days, not just around Denton, everyday, everywhere.
Shop Denton. I hear alot of people that come to check out North Texas when considering where to go to school that like the school but don't like the city. I think we can all admit that Denton isn't the nicest city in the Metroplex. However, it does have a lot of character that alot of the new suberbs don't have. By spending your hard-earned cash in Denton instead of surrounding cities, your tax dollars go to support Denton and you're likely being taken care of by a worker from our great University. This is even more important on game day, when buying gas, eating out, getting your hair cut, in Denton lets all of the casual Denton visitors for that day know there is a big-time college football game in Denton later that evening.
The most important thing is to remember that we are all in this together. Whether you're a current student, parent, recent alumni, retired alumni, community member, or just a Mean Green fan, it's important to do your part. Just think how far we can get if we all take baby steps. We won't get there overnight, but eventually, we can be a nationally-respected University with great athletic and academic programs in one of the greatest college towns anywhere!
That's all for my rant. Please feel free to agree or rip apart anything and everything that I said and add your own comments.
Go Mean Green!

What makes the schedule even worse is that 7 of the home games will be during Christmas break for students and only 6 will take place while the students are actually in school. Is it just me or do we always have a home game the day before the New Orleans Bowl?

I'm thinking this should have already been posted, but I'm not finding it anywhere.
Scroll down, it's on page 5.

This would be a good way for those not participating in the GMG II game to help out a little bit. I got this through UNT official email:
I encourage all staff, faculty, administrators and students to
participate in our third annual UNT Beautification Day this Saturday (April 2).
The event kicks off at 8:45 a.m. and concludes at noon followed by
lunch at the University Union portico. Volunteers are to meet at the
parking lot west of Terrill Hall (Lot 9).
Some of this year's activities include:
- Removing and regrading flower beds along Avenue C
- Replanting flower beds, pulling weeds and gathering litter around the
Murchison Performing Arts Center
- Planting flower beds around the Hurley Administration Building
- Planting about 60 trees around the duck pond at the Eagle Point
Campus
- Canvassing the university campus, Carriage Square and Fry Street to
clean up litter
Also, it's probably a good idea to leave the open-toed shoes or sandals
at home and bring gardening gloves if you have them. For more
information about UNT's beautification day, visit
http://www.unt.edu/president/insider/feb05/beauty.htm. For specific
questions, contact Bob Killam at (940) 565-3600 or killam@unt.edu.

The women's championship game is at 3:00 tomorrow and the men's game will be at 8:00. It would be great for all of you who can make it out to get to the Pit tomorrow. We really need some bodies in the seats.
-
Let's get excited Mean Green faithful. The Sun Belt Conference tournament starts tomorrow and this great university is playing host. The city of Denton is ready. I've seen signs up across the city welcoming visitors to the tournament, which is always good to see. It's time for the entire Mean Green nation to converge on the Super Pit this weekend. We must be loud and proud when our Mean Green takes the court, and have our butts in the seats the rest of the time. It is so important to the future of this athletic program to support this tournament. We have to support our UNT team but we need to be there for the rest of the tournament as well. If you don't want to show up to support your team, at least show up so we can shut up that sports writer from Kentucky. If that doesn't make you upset that somebody writes such words about our university, I don't know what will. Let's show up in force and root on the Mean Green to victory in front of a huge crowd. Bring all of your friends, co-workers, people you don't even know, whatever it takes pack the Pit. It's more important now than ever, let's work together and get it done.

You can make up to $45 a week donating plasma. I've been doing it for about a year now. It's really not painful at all. It usually takes about 2 hours. Here's an article from the NTDaily about it. It's really great for students since it's right next to campus.

I just finished my 5th season, and I just won the National Championship beating Maryland in the Orange Bowl.
After my 4th season, I got an invitation to join the Big 12 and Texas Tech moved to the Sun Belt. Tech won the Belt and then lost in the NO Bowl.
Have to agree, most fun game I've ever played.

I went to the Wendy's at 288 and 35 and they wouldn't let me use the coupon there.

Yeah, Allen is a 5A school. I played basketball for Allen back in my day. Well, that was only 3 years ago, it makes me sound old.

Any watching parties for game vs. Texas?
in Mean Green Football
Posted · Edited by BonfireBrian
OK, so party probably wasn't the right word.... but if we somehow pull off the upset of all upset... then it would be a party!
Anyway, keep me updated on what's going on. It's always better to watch the game with some Mean Green faithful.
And I recently moved to north Dallas out of Denton and I notice so much UT crap everywhere. It's absolutely disgusting. It's ok becuase they're all just fair-weather fans anyway, and they'd root for us if we were in the top 5 every year.
