  1. I think that is intended for tents, with parking stalls about 10 feet away in the paved lot.

No backing up to the grassy area.

I believe I saw people backed in on the grass just off the paved lot between the row of bricks and the lot. Is this allowed?

  2. I learned that lesson. I'm just not sure I'll be tailgating anymore. Most of the time its just me, my gf, and a few friends and no one wants to miss the game. Its such a hassle to take everything back to the truck( I tailgated at the hill and parked in the grassy area). Any suggestions?

Do you know anyone out there who doesn't go in to the game? If you tailgate by them, I'm sure they wouldn't mind keeping an eye on your stuff until you get back.

Our tailgating group has some non-UNT football fans in it, so we have several people who come to hang out and don't go to the game with us. If you set up by us or a similar group, I'm sure no one would mind watching your belongings during the game.

  3. Fouts was great! I got there at 7:30 and we parked the double decker school bus on the south end of the old stadium along the grass. The parking company and UNT police quickly ordered us to move it between the blue concrete blocks near the center of the lot. Of course us and others politely complained and requested to stay put. The parking company's head guy was very aggressive regarding the RV issue and the UNT police ended up contacting the athletic director's office. Bryan came out who was SUPER nice and allowed us to stay. The RV area between the blue parking blocks filled up fast. I figure UNT will have to revisit their rules as far as RVs. The UNT police and the parking company clearly were not on the same page. UNT police was very nice and the parking company workers were nice. The workers were even complaining about the head parking company guy. Our group was very polite and thanked Bryan profusely. The lot then quickly filled up throughout the day and it was a huge party. Many of the NT fans around us paid us a visit, shared food/drink and we had a great time. At one point, this U of H lady walked over and asked us to turn our music down. We all looked at her with a blank face and she walked away. Party continued.

PS: My wife (die hard LSU fan) was decked in green, started playfully yelling "Bird Feed!" to all of the UH fans from top of the bus as they past by, tossing them green beads. It was pretty funny. Good college football razzing. FYI, LSU fans yell "Tiger Bait" at the opposing fans. She may have something going with this one. It was a friendly way of taunting the visiting fans.

JROCK- Thanks for much for your hospitality and great music selection. Your home brew "tailgating ale" was outstanding. Keep up the great work in helping to make our tailgating atmospehere even better!

  4. Fouts was relatively calm, although there were definately some groups tailgating. We spent the day there since a friend was able to bring a camper. We won't have it for any games going forward, so I think we will try the Apogee side from the Blue/Red lots for the Indiana game. Anybody have any good recommendations?

  5. Another consideration is security. If you have a decent sized tailgate it probably doesn't hurt if one person volunteers to watch over the TV, grilling equipment etc so they don't get swiped.

We usually have a pretty good sized group. Although many of us go in to the game, usually a few choose not to and stay to guard the stuff. I really hope they don't enforce this. It would be nice to not have to tear the tailgate down just to set it back up for the postgame tailgate!

  6. Have you scouted that out in person? I thought that strip of grass was a relatively steep slope from the Victory lot up to the new lot. I hope I'm remembering wrong because I'm one of those with a hitch grill and that area is appetizing to me primarily because it's a closer walk to the stadium.

There is some flat ground just off the parking lot that was just constructed, but there are no spaces along that side. If you park in the Victory lot on the North side, the slope is pretty steep, but gets less steep the farther away from the stadium you go.

  7. Should be plenty of seats available - Tulsa starts with three of first four on the road, including trips to OU and Boise State. They host Oklahoma State on the Sept. 17.

Realistically, they'll be 1-3 when we arrive. It will be a pivotal game for both, especially if we roll in at 1-3 or 0-4 as well.

When Bill Blankenship was promoted, he hired Brent Guy as defensive coordinator. Guy is the former Utah State head coach who hired Darrell Dickey as his offensive coordinator.

It's safe to say Guy is going to be a step down from coordinating the defense. And, that's not good for Tulsa because defense was never its bread and butter. Even with Todd Graham, a former DC, and Keith Patterson, the Golden Hurricane defenses were never stout. They did have their moments; but, generally, TU outscored teams.

They will not outscore OU on the road, OSU at home, or Boise State on the road. They will be returning from a road beating at Boise State when we roll into town. After a 10-3 record in 2010, they could be demoralized about their season beginning 1-3. Heck, if Tulane "upsets" them, we'll be facing a very surprised 0-4 Tulsa team on October 1.

I'm not sold on TU's elevation of Bill Blankenship as a coach. He was a high school wonder-coach at powerhouse Tulsa Union for years. But, it's like Dodge and his Southlake story: If you've seen Union's facilities and compare them to other in the Tulsa area, there really is no excuse not to succeed there. The only school rivaling it from Tulsa to OKC is Tulsa suburbs' Jenks.

It's true that Blankenship put in four years as an assistant to Todd Graham. And, Todd Graham left him with a veteran team. I'm just not incredibly impressed with his assistant hires, and not sold that he - or, they - can do the job at this level.

When Tulsa and North Texas square off on October 1, both will likely be 1-3 or 0-4. This game will be a season changer for one or the other. I think it has the look of the "turn around/springboard" game for McCarney and his group of coaches at North Texas. They are shockingly longer in the tooth than TU's new staff. If the players respond well, we'll have the "upset" of Tulsa on October 1, and will sail into the meat of our Sun Belt schedule with the wind at our backs.

So...let's go up there and watch my undergraduate alma mater pummel my grad school alma mater! Now, they will pay the price for hiring a coach whose main experience as at a rich, suburban are high school. My how times and fortunes change.

We're 6-16 all-time against Tulsa and haven't beaten them since 1969 - a seven game losing streak. We haven't beaten them in Tulsa since 1968.

2005: Kragthorpe versus Dickey, 54-2 Tulsa

2006: Kragthorpe versus Dickey II, 28-3 Tulsa

2008: Graham versus Dodge, 56-26, Tulsa

2011: Blankenship versus McCarney...I like our chance here. We've finally got a coaching staff with more experience than TU!

(Also, as a side note: We were conference mates with Tulsa and played them for 14 consecutive seasons, 1957-1970. This is a regional rivalry that never should have died. Tulsa is a school we should be playing every year since they come into Texas and recruit heavily.

Oklahoma State and Texas Tech have tried to make their annual Big 12 game another OU-Texas rivalry. We should do the same with Tulsa. Among current FBS schools, we've only played New Mexico State (34) and ULM (27) more than we've played Tulsa (22). As close as they are geographically, this is a game we should be playing more annually, if not semi-annually.)

I'm planning to make the trip up there. Been to several UNT road games before, but wasn't able to make Tulsa previously. Looking forward to it.

  8. Optimus Business Plans is in need of 3 additional business plan writers. A Business Plan Writer will write business plans as an Independent Contractor to be used by Optimus Business Plans. Some market research will be performed as well.

Most projects will take about 15 hours to complete and will be due about 10 days later. You can perform the task on your own schedule from your home, dorm, computer lab, etc.

This is ideal for busy students in need of some extra cash. This is a perfect opportunity for Entrepreneurship students to get some real world experience. Graduates are welcome too.

You must be a good writer to receive this position. Ideal candidates will be recent graduates or those with some upper level business courses completed.

Send me a PM if you are interested.

  9. OK, I am FINALLY able to get on the forum and talk a bit about the game. Sorry ahead of time as this will be a bit lengthy.

First things first...Many many thanks to everyone who helped make this event a success...from the players to the cheer squad to the "celebrity refs" to our wonderful sponsors and donors, to those who helped me with ideas and support and to all who came out to both watch and help on game day. I truly hope that you had as much fun as I did. If you couldn't come, make plans to attend (or play) in next year's event. I hope it is even bigger and better. You always learn a thing or two the first time you do one of these events.

I would be remiss BIG TIME if I did not give a big shout out of thanks to the UNT Athletic Dept. and in particular PAUL BATCHELDER and JEFF LUSTER... without the help and support of these guys this event would not have been able to take place. In addition, Kendra talkin and Matt Phillips are due a "thank you" for helping me obtain our title sponsor, Metzler's!

    OK here goes:

Final Score: Emmitt01 FINALLY ends up on the winning side in one of these events:

    GREEN TEAM: 77 .... WHITE TEAM: 49

We had some "honors" to hand out after the game...all selected by our celebrity refs (Raquel Cuffie, Josh White and Shannon Shorter) .

    White Team MVP: UNT90

    White Team Hustle Award: MeanJewGreen

Green Team MVP: ECHO (never any doubt in this selection)

Green Team Hustle Award: Bonfire Brian

    Spirit Award: Mean Green Matt

Thanks to our brothers Haitt (Sean and Jason) who were the winning bidders for the autographed football and basketball. And, thanks to all our bidders who helped move the bids up as the event and day progressed...in fact we had a bidder waiting to raise the bid yet again just as time ran out.

It was great to see so many of the Cheer Squad show up to cheer for the respective teams and to have so many basketball players come to watch, help and referee. Special thanks go to our two basketball team managers who came and ran our scoreboard and clock, brought the balls for the warm ups and game and the autographed basketball. And, to George Odufawa who helped keep track of player fouls during the game.

OK, now for some GREAT NEWS! How did we do for the Cheer Squad? We'll I am very pleased to say that we blew through the goal of $1,000 net to the Cheer Squad and due to the generosity of up sponsors, players , donors and fans we will be handing the Athletic Dept. checks in the amount of $1, 925.00!!!!!! That $1925.00 is AFTER all expenses and will be given to the Athletic Dept. on Monday.

You folks are the best! It is in situations like this that I see so many people put aside their differences...be they political or with something related to UNT....to come together to have a great time and to support a great cause...if for no other reason I am happy to have been a part of this because I saw three little kid's faces light up when I gave them small Mean Green Basketballs (thanks to my bride buying them as a gift to the event) and when I saw Emmitt's beautiful little girl sing the Mean Green fight song live and in person along with the UNT Cheer Squad. Made this "old guy's" day!

Again, well done all...thanks to everyone and make plans now to be part of next year's event! GO MEAN GREEN!

Great to hear we raised almost $2,000. Thanks for putting together the event! It was a lot of fun. Can't wait for next year's game.
