  1. Kansas has whipped plenty of teams better than us in the Phog. They aren't the next level...they're about 2 levels above us. Disappointing? Yeah, but not THAT surprising. I said before the game I could see us getting blown out or hanging around like we did against A&M last year. Is A&M the next level? They were a solid program last several seasons and have won in the 1st round of the Dance four years in a row. We hung with them only losing by ten.

justify all you want. a 33 point loss is nothing to be happy about coach.

  2. Can we get back on track after the Kansas game? Rise has looked pretty good so far (also 2-1) beating acouple of tomato cans and then a 1 point loss to Santa Clara. Hopefully we get a good crowd despite folks leaving town for the holidays.

    who is rise

  3. It's effing Kansas.

An all time top 5 program...and a team that does not lose at home...4 Big XII loses in Self's time in Lawrence. They beat up good teams at Phog Allen (last year, Tech by 26...Mizzou by 19...Colorado by 20). And these teams play there every year.

This is our first trip to, in my opinion, the second toughest place to play in country behind Cameron Indoor...and I don't feel at all like we embarrassed ourselves. We shot 42% from the field despite going 0-12 from 3...committed just 12 turnovers, our lowest number of the season. Are we still a ways behind the likes of Kansas? Hell yes, but if you didn't realize that going in to the game you should probably seek medical attention. There is not a scholarship player on that roster that wouldn't start and average double figures for us. Not one. Both Morris's, Taylor and if that man-child Robinson continues to refine his game are all first round, NBA draft picks...remember how excited we all were over Eric Tramiel, one of the top players we've had in the past decade, getting a try out with the Mavs this summer? Perspective.

This game was a learning and growing experience for an already seasoned team. It will only help them going forward.

you can sprinkle fairy dust on it but it was still a whipping. same as against ksu in the tourney. jj cannot get the boys to the next level yet. no, tech is not the next level.

  4. EDIT: Not worth continuing this. Words mean things. Don't say "turnovers" if you don't mean turnovers.

Especially when they'd still be turnovers if we lost possession.

a pass or rebound off knox's hands that goes out of bounds or into the hands of the opponent is a turnover. I counted more than 5 with that group.

  5. I did indeed see it live. We got 40 points off the bench. I don't care whether it was in the paint or on the perimeter... At least we're scoring off the bench. Also, if you look at scoring efficiency in terms of time on the floor... Holmen and Edwards scored more points per minute on the floor than Hogans or Odufuwa. I don't care if they're missing shots from the floor when they get fouled as long as they hit the free throws that follow. Points are points.

Knox will not play double digit minutes against a full D1 schedule, especially once Cam Spencer gets back.

for all the minutes holmen-edwards-knox played they went a combined 2-10 on shooting with several turnovers.

  6. As to the "splash hire" movement. That might just be a great idea. Let's say we bring in a Mike Leach (or a Fran, etc). Thousands would show up to see him coach. Our stadium would be filled with the ticket buying masses. T-shirt alumni would come out of the woodwork. We'd probably get to be on national TV a time or two. And yes, he'd probably win. Then, as soon as the next big offer came along, he'd be gone.

sure bring in the circus. fans, media, winning then he moves on? great! canales might win, would not sell as many tickets or as much media but would leave for a better offer too. take leach and the over.

  7. Okay ... last post for a while but eppy4life really made me laugh to myself. And he didnt respond with some crap

statement like some others who obviously have nothing else to do but find it easier to complain and make fun than

talk about the matter at hand. Sorry for any inconvenience, but dont want others to be affected.

That being said, it is somebody currently on the Florida State coaching staff. I hear there have been

discussions, yet it is not a "done deal" ... something that is being discussed seriously.

I promise to add more after I get some more insight and verify things.

    Take care.

did you mean u.florida staff instead?

  8. Okay, for those of you who have been on this forum for many years, back into the mid 90's and more,

you should know that I dont write much and dont write simply to get my name up n the board.

Over the years I have helped, watched, listened and read the multiple formats we have used through the years,

and the latest threads covering coaching could use some intel.

I spoke with a rep. from the University that will remain anonymous. You simply need to know that the

person speaks from years of involvement within the University system.

Following the forum I felt that I knew a great deal of what was happening and have found that I really didnt

know as much as previously thought. that being said, it looks like there is a definite candidate or two in

mind and one that will come with name recognition. Im not going to give out more, just want to make a statement

here. We have a great deal going for us at this point. Think about it.

We have an interim coach who is doing very well and has our kids on the right track. You have to appreciate his

effort and affect on this team. I was somewhat taken back by some of the info. I received coming in from the

players and others over the coaching staff over the course of this season. I can understand keeping info. close

to one's own however. Regardless, we are looking at a great deal of potential.

We also have a wonderful stadium, a growing community and dare I say

a growing fan base. With wins, it will grow more of course, as any school would.

So, lets not bash what has happened and look towards what we Can do. I think we will be happy in the

end and see results. I see it happening already.

Take care and keep the faith.

Hopefully I will catch some of you soon. I tend to travel a great deal so hard to make it to games,

but will definitely be at some basketball this season.

is this in code? cut to the chase, who is on the list?

  9. Self Promoting? The T shirts say "Lock the Gate." Not "Canales for Head Coach." The Lock the gate theme purpose is to get the players, fans, and everybody something to rally behind. And from what we saw throughout this season, Injuries, Player Passing away, HC being fired, what a better time to give everybody something to rally behind. Whether you like/support Canales or not, please dont belittle his intentions and desire to give the kids something to play for by calling it self promoting.

We all want the same thing and that is for the Mean Green to play hard and not give up.

    Go Mean Green!

not exactly. some of us want the mean green to win and others want relatives to get the hc job

  10. The 2 most important criteria that will make the final decision on our new head football coach GMoney has listed on his #5. No one that I've seen in this thread has even mentioned the ticket selling impact of whoever we would hire so I guess they are expecting record numbers of new ticket buyers coming from what new wood work we didn't see the last 6 years of losing seasons with another college HFC unknown commodity many of us pushed for the job back then?

UNT cannot afford to gamble this way again in our lifetimes no matter how many of us thought the last project would work including......yours truly. :( (If you've ever made a mistake in judgement, then you might know how some of us who pushed for Dodge might feel of late).

Real Red Numbers Talk With This: Does an unknown hire whoever he would be negate the total & complete impact of what I think UNT powers want this new stadium to make in the next 12 months and beyond in the North Texas Metroplex as well as the entire Lone Star State?

What would even potential corporate sponsors think of who we hire? Would they take us serious as an up and coming NCAA football program to contend worthy of having their name on our stadium if we hire a virutally unknown? In your heart of hearts, most of you know the answer to that question

Spoke to a Horned Frog this morning who was sitting by his computer when I called and I asked him to read all this on GoMeanGreen.com where any NCAA FBS football program would even consider an assistant, ie, "any assistant" from a perennially losing football program and he only told me with a bit of sarcasm, "Now I understand why North Texas cannot get their football program off ground center. Then he said, "yall do that kind of hire then we know your new stadium coupled with an unknown coach won't compete for any players we want to recruit for another 4 or 5 years in the recruiting wars."

The poll that Harry posted a few weeks ago says the concensus of this board prefers a name coach if you add up the total votes for all the name coaches together. Comparatively, a small percentage wanted yet another "project" or "unknown" coach that we have no idea how effective a recruiter he would be among college circles. But you have to be a multi-year reader of this board to understand how the Roman mob'esque effect for the push of (always) "one" particular UNT assistant coach takes over for a brief period of time.

Hasn't there almost always been "one" UNT asssistant coach who the last few years will win the heart and souls of some on this board most of whom have never in their lifetimes as UNT students or alums seen (or played under) a UNT Head Football Coach with more career wins than losses? It was invevitable that another "chosen one" would be picked this time around after TDodge was released from his contract.

So..........Who Will Be The Next "Chosen One" After Canales Because There Were Certainly Many Before Him.

    (1) Remember back in they day when this board crowned assistant coach Gary DeLoach as "their" next "best friend" project?

    (2) Oh yes! Remember when it was Kenny Evans who received the GMG.com version of the Papal Blessing from the usual hardy handful?

    (3) Spencer Leftwhich? Yes, in deedy, he had his own personal fan club on GMG.com who insisted that he get back to the Land of the Jolly Green Giant with the midget-sized dreams for any semblance of an upwardly bound football program except those big Sun Belt Conference wins of which some want to use now as criteria to hire our next 5 or 6 year "unknown commodity" of a HFC.

Why do we always use the worst FBS conference in the USA as our barometer? No one else in the state of Texas of significance would use a Bottom 25 model for damn sure. Maybe thats why they never think of us when expansion talk comes around because they think we are joined at the hip with the Sun Belt Conference in mind, thought and athletic philosophy?

It's almost like a family that has a history of alcoholism from past generations to generation. Yet........which generation will it be that breaks that ongoing cycle of a tremendously bad habit?

Who will be the one who does the same for the future of North Texas football? We don't need another 5 or 6 years of an unknown commodity or do we like the misery so much? Are we scared of success beyond the SBC or something? If so, ask Boise and TCU how much fun they're having right now once they took the big plunge from what they had been doing before true upper level success came their way to get out of their own multi-year miserable co-assistance in NCAA football.

    GMG!

sorry plumm. i can't read that ramble. again in 10 words or less.

  11. looking at the stadium...they appear to be putting in the endzone area (next to ath center) too early. They have more concrete seats to bring in via 18 wheel flatbeds like previously done....will they be able to manuver betweeen the endzone section they are now about to pour?

don't beleive everything you see on a webcam. objects and spaces may be larger than they appear
