  1. Ok, between the 3, who's your favorite?

    Nix

    Price

    Dodge

For me it's Dodge.  Of course if Carthel was on that list I'd be straining between Dodge and him.  It would be a coin flip for me.

What if RV is faced with that same scenario between his two favorites?  Considering so much is on the line you can't afford to coin flip this.  Wow, what a tough job that would be.

Even if it's Ronald McDonald I'm behind him 110%.

  2. My favorite "good-guy-and-role-model" from my era is Jordan Case. Here are excerpts from the 1979 Texas Football feature story about Jordan case.

"Case always was optomistic. He was overlooked by all major colleges because he tore up a knee in the next-to-last game of his senior year at Seagoville High, where wins came seldom. Only Sul Ross took him, and after one season there, he got a walk-on tryout at NTSU by writing a letter (to then coach Hayden Fry)."

"When school was ending in May, most player were relaxing or heading for jobs. Case was trying to sell his car, "because my mom broke her back, then a tornado hit her house in Kleberg. So I need to help her out". That tells you something extra about Jordan Case."

Not only is this new information that I didnot know, but also he had some kind of back problems and he remedied this by working on a Coke truck that strengthen his back muscles.

  3. I have mentioned before that I call on a Convenient Store H.Q. account by the name of Sac N Pac which was started by a former football great who played football at NT in the 50's.

He has a number of memorbila from his days playing at NT which includes a class ring,FB jersey, photos and newspaper clippings.

However he is a big sponsor of Texas State and has a room in their stadium which I heard is really beautiful.

When I spoke to Garland a few weeks ago he told me his story of going to NT. This man was even building an apartment building while in college. He had somekind of agreement about a paying teaching job while at NT and then it fell apart. I couldn't understand everything he was telling me because he has such a low voice, but he left Denton dispirited and angry never to return.

He has been a very successful businessman who feels no loyality towards NT and contributes his time and money to Texas State.

  4. I honestly feel that had coach Dickey understood this himself he would  still be our coach.  Which leads to the discussion of not understanding.  It's my belief that a few people here truly don't understand how very disgruntled DD has been since '98 and especially '01.  I could write a small novel with example after example of it.  DD has left the university with no other choice.  The decision was the right one to make despite the one-sided picture the DFW media has chosen to paint.  If MM want's the practice field named after him, so be it.  That is a win-win situation for all involved.

One question remains:  Who's the next coach and how long till we get back to New Orleans in December?

Your pretty knowledgable about things were not familiar with but can you explain without disclosing any personal information how is it that DD has been so disgrunted since 1998. He had three season over 500.

  5. Your the only one who keeps naming me as the "only authority of Mean Green Athletics".  I don't agree with your ASSumption of that, but as long as I'm ahead of you on it then I'm fine with some of that?  And now your down to bagging on my sig line?  A sign of desperation I suppose?

And let's see, the "(See FFR POST #18, para.#6 in the "warning signs where there for years thread)" was this qoute from me:

That was written in response to your first post(see below) in which you scolded our "decision makers" not realizing that group still include some people who helped hire Dr. Pohl, RV and made it possible for both to get us to where we are today.

If one was to take your outlook on things then all the accomplishments made thus far that I think most here are well aware of never existed.  As posted by you in another thread of drivel: "Building Top 20 1A Football Program

From Scratch".  From Scratch?  This leads me to believe that you are some clueless, outside troll that's never been on campus before.  All the accomplishments our "decision makers" have reached so far include, but are not limited to approval of funding to build the AC center, reaching donors to build a state of the art tennis center and driving ranges/batting cages, financing the women's complex, athletic study center, numerous upgrades to Fouts including the scoreboard, tailgating with beer sales now allowed on campus, away game tailgating events, countless mailings of games and info, updated athletic website, gear sales including improved vendor supply, numerous new corporate sponsorhip that is easily seen during game day activities,  countless options for season ticket holders, etc.  And now more importantly we have a UNT Master Plan that has a new stadium within it's sights along with a graphic visual that has been secured along with future plans in the making.  All of this was done in coordination by our "decision makers" and includes a hell of a lot of money that has been invested for the future of this athletic program.

Do you actually think these people are going to simply throw these investments away simply because our football team and it's coaching staff can't find the endzone?

    I owe you nothing!

  6. I happened to start a new job last week and one account that I will be calling on regularly is Sac N Pac convenient stores.

The founder Garland Warren played at NT, and in the hall way they have all this memorabilia from his NT days. They have rings, large pictures in uniform, and schedules.

The older salesman that is training me to handle this account even took me to his antique store to meet him, however Garland had driven with a friend to Kentucky to see Texas State vs Univ of Kentucky play.

  7. Went to meangreensports.com and tried to look for tickets online.  The "best seats available" were in section B row 6.  That's close to the ends of the stands.

I am planning to come up from SA and I have not purchased my tickets. Can I purchase ticket by calling the Athletic office and then giving then my credit card number.

I never have purchased ticket online and when I went up last night to NT website a window came up from Ticket Master and it wants to charge me like $6 more a ticket. That too much to purchase two tickets.

    Any suggestions. rolleyes.gif

  8. I like what Woody did with his time in the game.  Out of the three, he should get the start to show what he can do from the beginning.

Call me a dreamer, but I would love to see Nathan Tune take off that redshirt and get his feet wet this season.  I don't see that happening unless injuries on the other three take their toll.  When he truly gets a chance to compete next year, we're all going to be saying he should have been around for the competition this season.

Just my opinion, but I can't wait!

What about Steve Prince? Do you think he could in and solve the problems?

  9. If someone wants to foot the bill to fit the band with matching shorts and hats, then fork over the money.  Until then, the shorts won't match and the hats won't be uniformed.  UT's band budget is quite a bit higher than ours.  So we cannot be compared to them.

I thought maybe this year people won't have anything to bitch about with the Green Brigade, but what was I even thinking that this year was going to be any different?  Ok, the three members that were cheering for UT should be reprimanded.  Bad choice on their part.  But it is infuriating that instead of giving the band director any sort of piece of advice or input, people come here to complain.  NEWS FLASH: If you want better music or the band wearing white socks (not that this should EVEN be an issue), then give constructive criticism to the band director.  That is the ONLY way to get things changed.

I am going to get off now before I say things that I shouldn't.

    Debbie:

I got to say that over the years that I have read your posts, this has to be one of the most assertives statements from you. All I can say is "you tell them girl"

  10. FFR, I read this board often, but probably don't post as often as I should.  I realize that alot of people listen to your blather on this board and appear to respect it simply because you wear a pretty green firefighter hat.  I'm tired of reading your posts that insinuate that you are a mean green fan.  Lets face it, we were outclassed.  They ARE the defending national champions and they played like it.  They have a great defence (IMO, mostly thier DEs and LBs), but go back and watch this game.  Don't blame the coaching for the gameplan or the 'non-imaginative' offense.  I liked the playcalls -- the execution simply stunk.  Stop blaming Dickey and the coaching staff.

All in all I would say your post may have been the most anti-North Texas post I have seen in a while.  I made the trip to the last NT-Texas game, but chose to watch this one on TV.  I challenge you to go back and watch the game again -- the playcalling was NOT the problem.  Sure its easy to throw the coaches under the (broken-down) bus, but take a realistic look at that game.  The coaching was not the biggest problem -- it was the players performance.

And all these people I see complaining offensively about our O-line (C,OG,OT) can go watch the game again as well.  Their DEs and thier mobile outside LBs were what killed us offensively, not the interior lineman (or playcalling).  Going into this game, I thought Phillips was the guy (I went to both spring and fall scrimages).  I now know better.

I'd say coming out of this game, we should be playing Wilson as QB, because of his mobility and overall athleticism at the position.  We should see more of Henderson as FB and more I. Thomas on the Dline.  Our TE play (mostly blocking) needs to be improved.  Thats my .02 cents.

This is a good post but then I can see FFR frustration. We all want a better NT team but there are so many factors that are involved.

I don't know if more money in a stadium or athletics dept will help. Didn't University of Houston get a large athletics donation for football some years ago and just where they are.

I do remember in 1978 at my first NT vs UT we gave them a heck of a game.

I do see that when we lose a few of out top talent, it just hard to replace them and then UT has endless talent with their 3rd and 4th string.
