  1. I'm not really one to dig on conspiracy theories, but it's fun and the Devil needs advocates.

Do you think it's possible that the BOR may have sided with Chancellor Jackson because they have so much invested in the move to Dallas and the extensive push for UNT-Dallas that they couldn't afford to abandon the guy who took them there? Even if that means we have to part with $700K+?

Here's a question to consider that could back up the above conspiracy theory:

If it was indeed a force-out and Dr. B was in the right, and the BOR knew this or agreed with her, then why wouldn't they force Jackson out instead?

There is all kinds of money and all kinds of secrecy around the situation that doesn't sit well with any of us. We all liked president B. She is a class-act and promoted the University with tremendous zeal. But, we just don't know enough details to draw any conclusions.

Our only hope is that the BOR will identify another Pres. that is just as effective and qualified as Pres. B.

Tough job, but that is the bed they made.

  2. This is all too early to worry about much. But I don't think we'd match up well against Duke in a hypothetical scenerio.

Does the preseason expectations of us winning the West title, and by some folks the Sun Belt title, possibly move UNT to a higher seed (13-14 range) if we take the SBC title?

I think we might need upsets in some other conference tournaments in order for this to be realistic, but I would hate to go back as a 15 again.

  3. The President can't raise tuition. That is the job of the BOR. Now, she can recommend it to the BOR and they can say no, but raising the tuition is not something she can do on her own.

Now, she might have said something like "I recommend a tuition hike, and if the BOR will not approve, then I don't see how I can continue as President", but I think she's smarter than that.

Is the president able to mandate raising academic standards, or does that also go through the BOR?

I'm with Silver Eagle on this... I don't think Dr. B would give that kind of ultimatum.

  4. Thanks Dr. B!

We'll all miss you patrolling the sidelines and being that advocate that our University needs. We wish you well in your future endeavors and hope that you look upon your time here fondly and (as you often tagged) with green pride!

  5. Pure speculation on my part, but it seems that the UNT-Denton President position was being undermined by the recent actions to move certain key positions/personnel to Dallas. I really wonder if there was some friction between the President and the System Chancellor and things finally came to a head.

This would really be a terrible situation for UNT Denton if this is the case.

I hope Lee Jackson doesn't have much to say about the replacement. C'mon C.Dan and the rest of the BOR... get us a quality replacement! Pres. Bataille's shoes will be tough ones to fill, but there has to be tons of highly qualified people who would want to be the President of UNT. We're a great school!

  6. Just curious Rick, what is your beef with JJ ?

He seems to be a great guy, he has won here, he has recruited good kids that graduate. What more do you want besides us winning 25 games a year, playing in your face defense and going to the final 4 every year?

I dont think Rick was commenting on JJ, rather he was commenting on how RV has Dodge wait until the end of the year to talk about the season/future... so why not JJ as well? Maybe I'm wrong. (Like GreenP1, I also wonder what all of the dots mean?)

I think we should treat the Bball team and Fball teams differently though. 11 games gives you a good idea of how your coach is doing. In Fball, this is a whole season. In Bball, that's only about 1/3 of your season.

Based on what Johnny has put together here, I think he deserves this consideration right now. Especially with what he's done this year in working through injuries.

  7. "It looks like he will be around a while as long as he doesn't make it back to the NCAA Tournament and make an extended run, which would make him a prime target for another school."

I don't think I would mind this at all... as long as we capitalized off of the next hire and continued the high level of play.

  8. 1. I keep a 9

    2. I'll be finished before I post this.

    3. No sir.

    4. It's alright. I could use more time off.

    5. My best guess is skid marks?

    6. No, but the hair around them is.

    7. Be careful, Chris Hansen appears out of thin air and dashes the dreams of folks like you.

I really like the direction that this thread moved in... and I love the Census!

  9. In Troy Aikman's "Freshman" NFL season he won no games, threw more interceptions, threw the same number of touchdowns, had 200 less yards, and had a lower completion percentage than Rodge had in his freshman campaign. And he's in the Hall of Fame!

I'll settle for a few bowl wins and maybe a Sun Belt POY!

I think we all hope that Riley Dodge is a great QB regardless of size. I don't think anyone here wishes his failure.

Let's not forget some pretty good college QB's that went to the NFL as WR's. Antwaan Randle El (because of size) comes to mind. If Riley is a good enough 'athlete', then maybe he could go this route as well? Maybe Randle El would have been a great WR in college too, but he played QB because he was the best QB at IU. I think Riley is in the same spot here.

  10. first post! I felt like i needed to defend a teammate. I do feel like it's stupid to compare anyone to Drew Brees, but Riley is only a freshman and i feel like some of yall bash him alot. I am with the guy everyday he is about 5'11 and if you have not seen him lately hes about 195 creeping on 200. It makes me laugh sometimes when some of yall think yall know whats going on in our program and yall have no idea. Give the guy a break. Support him and our team!

    GO MEAN GREEN!

    Welcome to the board 2010meangreen!

Good luck this upcoming season... We hope to hear from you often!

  11. This thread isn't silly because of a one or two inch height difference. This thread is RIDICULOUS because we're comparing our quarterback to the Super Bowl MVP. Different pedigree. Different skill level. Not even close.

And again, I think the kid should start.

I agree, comparing Riley Dodge against any NFL QB is pretty ridiculous.

Anyone still wanna say rodge is nothing like romo?

The logic of comparing 1 season of college versus a stellar career in the NFL is absurdity no matter who it is he's being compared with, pro or con.

Compare Riley Dodge to Landry Jones all day long if you want to. But we should leave the NFL Pro-Bowlers out of the discussion.

  12. OK. So Troy slays MT, we get help from ULM, and a nice surprise from UALR. Of course, we weren't expecting UNO or FIU to help...

So going forward, are there certain scenarios that would benefit UNT more than others? Obviously, we want ULL and ASU to lose as many as possible, but what about the East? Who should we be pulling for to win?

I think the biggest game left on the calendar is our matchup with ULL at home, and barring serious injury or anything, and assuming Denver continues to stink on the road, I think we should be on a 6 game win streak heading into that game.

  13. Or, you just keep hitting the JUCO ranks indefinitely, Kinda like K-State in the 90s.

Is this what made the Kansas CC's what they are today? If you look at them, they are full of highly recruited players.

Were they built up because kids knew that if they excelled in the Kansas Jucos, then they would have a good chance of going to KState? Or, were they already a high quality league and KState just happened to be a good team in close proximity?

  14. I'm hoping that the new coordinator(s) are able to give Coach Dodge more confidence.

I hope that it's not only coach Dodge that is infused with confidence. I'm pretty sure that coach Canales will come in with confidence, I just hope he can convey that to the players.

I hope the incoming juco defensive guys will bring coach DeLoach some confidence as well. I hope he'll have confidence to rush QB's with more than just his down linemen more often next season.

I also hope that Olen is as advertised so that Dodge can have more confidence in his kicking game.

I think that with Dodge learning the speed of the game over the past few years, he'll now have his own confidence (at least I hope so).

+1 by the way... you're not splitting hairs, that's a big difference.
