  1. Hey guys, I know the likeliness of Canales earning the HC position is an uphill battle. But, I wanted to let those interested know, that Chico has reengaged Chris with weekly calls and has invited him for a game day visit this Halloween. We'll see y'all at the game. 3 Minute Quick Hitter Reel
  2. Thanks, Ben. Good to know about the Twitter account. I actually do send emails as well. Most universities have a publicly accessible staff directory search utility you can use to lookup coaches email when they're not listed on the athletic site.
  3. Thanks. I'm cautiously optimistic that Mac will have a change of heart and want to at least look at 2016 HS QB's. I'll just keep sending Mac film until he blocks me on Twitter.
  4. Hey everyone, I thought I'd just check in and give anyone who may be interested in Chris, an update. Chris had a couple walk-on offers from Rutgers and Kentucky. However, he felt like he'd be settling and wanted another year to prove himself for a full ride scholarship somewhere. So, we elected to enroll him at Atlanta Sports Academy and essentially reclass him as a 2016 recruit. While Canales is still keeping a loose eye on Chris at best, nothing else has gone on with his UNT recruitment. Yesterday I tweeted a 3 minute quick hitter highlight reel (see below) to Mac in hopes of getting his attention. After all, if Mac does decide to take a 2016 HS QB, I hope he at least gives Chris a look. I know I'm probably barking up the wrong tree with UNT,but the truth is, I don't go on these fan boards hardly at all and almost never interact. But, around a year ago when Canales seemed certain he was gonna offer, I stumbled upon GMG and I really grew to like the fan base. Over time, I felt like North Texas might be a great fit for Chris. And although I have no connection to UNT, I still DVR all of the games that are televised. Sorry about the tough loss this week against SMU. I'm hoping these coaches can right the ship...and soon! Go Mean Green! Chris Riddle Highlights P.S. if anyone knows of a coach I should get Chris' film in front of, other than Chico, by all means let me know.
  5. His top target was actually number 7, who was the QB until Chris transferred in. 7 (DJ) was able to read coverages and adjust his route. So Chris and DJ were often on the same page. Also, when Chris had to bail, DJ would adjust his route and get open which is great for Chris, who has a knack for keeping his eyes down field when he's in trouble to look for opportunities. You'll see in a few of those plays, when Chris is flushed out of the pocket, it's number 7 getting open for a big gain. 15 is a solid player as well. He's only a sophomore but is big. He'll end up being a top TE recruit in the next couple years. There is no doubt that it has been Chico who's built the rapport with Chris. That being said, if given the opportunity, Chris is a smart kid and knows that it's the program - not the coach - who provides the athletic and academic opportunities. At the end of the day, And if I know Chris, he'd say it's the love of the game and bond with his team mates that drives him. It's never been a coach.
  6. I just read this a few minutes ago. I'll definitely let y'all know as soon as Canales and Chris talk again.
  7. While NT is no longer actively recruiting Chris, I thought I'd share his final season highlight video for those who were following him and interested in his recruitment regardless of where he lands. There are a couple C-USA programs showing some late interest. And although I don't think it's likely, I'm still hoping things change with NT's recruiting decision to take a 2015 HS QB. Thanks everyone and Go Mean Green! http://www.hudl.com/athlete/2464718/highlights/158367386
  8. Thank you, Withers - I was really hoping it would pan-out, because I really felt like UNT was a great fit. I'm with you regarding his recruitment because it's picking up to include some promising interest from other C-USA programs. Who knows, maybe he'll end up playing against UNT some day. I wish I could, Rudy. If there's a silver lining it would be that Canales still calls Chris every week. So you know he's not giving up on Chris. In case I didn't make it clear before, this was NOT Chico's decision to pass on a 2015 HS QB. But, I completely understand the reasoning. I was told there are higher recruiting priorities for the 2015 class and the Mac doesn't want to waste a scholly on a 15 HS QB. But, you never know...that could change down the road. GMG
  9. Well, the visit was cancelled indefinitely. Two weeks ago Chico told me that as much as he wants to offer Chris, Mac will not be taking a 2015 HS QB this year. So Canales recommended we cancel our visit plans and save the money and will let us know if Mac reconsiders a HS QB for the 2015 class. Thanks for all your support and Go Mean Green! P.S. great win against FAU!
  10. For what it's worth, I had a call with Canales today and he told me not to waste the money on airfare for the Chris' visit on November 22nd. I know he was looking forward to the visit and It looks like I'll have to try those BBQ places sometime later.
  11. Not at all. The injury was over a year ago and he's fully recovered and is bigger, faster and stronger. This video is post-injury/recovery
  12. Thanks for your support, Withers. I don't think the program having an off year is a deterrent for Chris. He's a realist and from the countless time he's spent talking on the phone with Canales over the last 6 months, I think he realizes there is a lot of potential and upside at NT. He's looking forward to the visit and I'm looking forward to some Texas BBQ!
  13. No "marketing gimmick". Chris had moderate interest from a variety of FBS programs before being horse-collared in a team practice breaking his fibula and requiring 3 plates and 8 screws to repair, just one week before the start of his junior campaign. After sitting out this all-important recruitment year, the interest from those schools fell off completely as most of them offered other QB's on their recruitment boards who had the opportunity to prove themselves. Now in an all-or-nothing senior year, Chris has a lot to prove to earn an opportunity to play at the next level. Although he is un-ranked by the recruit media sites (Rivals, Scout, 247, etc.), if you take a look at his film, and you know what to look for in QB, you will see he possesses many of the qualities college coaches are looking for in a pocket-passing QB. http://www.hudl.com/athlete/2464718/highlights/158367386 I appreciate your objectivity and Go Mean Green.
  14. He did pretty well. In the first two quarters he threw 11/13 for 183 yards, 2 TD's and 0 INT's. He and the other key players were pulled at halftime. 4 more weeks and we're on a plane to the Texas for his visit. We're looking forward to getting on campus for that visit. Go Mean Green! P.S. I just received the official stats from the team statistician and it's also worth noting he had a perfect passer rating of 158.3
  15. Man...football and BBQ. I'm not sure why I haven't already moved to the Lone Star State!
  16. We're probably planning on flying in. Since I travel for work, I have plenty of miles to use anyhow. So it sounds like Hard 8 is the move! Thanks.
  17. I'm a big guy so it goes without saying there aren't too many dishes I would turn away. Plus it's Texas, so I'd have to imagine there are some damn good BBQ places in the AO.
  18. I did and while I won't disparage any of these QB's, I do think UNT would be a great fit for Chris and the rapport that Chico has built up with Chris is very strong. Somebody just has to get Mac to buy into the fact that UNT needs a 2015 QB...whoever that may end up being.
  19. Just to and fuel to the fire, I know with as much time as Canales has spent with Chris on the phone every week for the last 6 months, he'd probably commit on the spot. Just waiting for Canales to get the green light to even take a 2015 QB. We'll be in Denton on the 22nd of Nov for the FIU game. http://www.hudl.com/athlete/2464718/highlights/158367386
  20. For all y'all interested in the updates. Chris' stats from last night are below along with the updated highlight reel. Looking forward to getting to Denton on the 22nd of November. Go Mean Green! 11/17, 261 yards, 3 TD's 0 INT's in 2.5 quarters of play. Starters were pulled out once the score was 41 - 0 http://www.hudl.com/athlete/2464718/highlights/158367386
  21. Hahaha. I almost had to call up Chico and say to him "che cazzo?!"
  22. I have to say as a dad of a potential QB recruit, what I've read on this board hasn't had any effect on me nor would it on Chris. The fact of the matter is, if a QB is going to let the rants of some disgruntled fans get the best of him, then he's in the wrong business. All players want a passionate fan base and most realize sometimes the natives will get restless. The QB position is probably one of the most difficult positions to execute in team sports and with that comes the highs and lows of die hard fan base. Thick skin is one of the many intangibles I try and develop with Chris. With me being an ex-Army paratrooper, I have a tendency to be harder on him than the average parent. In the long run that will bode well for him. More important, he's a perfectionist and there is nobody on this board that will hold him to a higher standard then he will hold himself. That being said, and Lord willing, if Chris does come play for UNT, I will not be linking this site to his mother. Don't get me wrong, she's as calm as a cucumber...until one of her cubs is attacked! GMG
  23. Added to what you just said about trusting his line, a QB needs to understand the protection and be aware that in some cases, they are responsible for avoiding that unblocked man. You can't undervalue the football IQ it takes to progress through the presnap reads. As far as footsteps, I think your QB has to have situational awareness but have that gun-barrel-in-the-face poise in the pocket. Planting your feet and hitting the open receiver, knowing you're about to get ear-holed takes ice in the veins and you either have that or you don't.
  24. Star rating by media outlets (e.g. Rivals, Scout, 247 etc.) can be very misleading. I can speak from personal experience that I know my son, Chris, is ranked 3-stars by by two of the real scouting services. You know, the scouting services that cater exclusively to the college programs such as Elite Scouting Services, and not a subscription base website. Anyhow, because Chris was out his junior year due to a broken leg one week before the start of the season, his recruitment fell off big time and the offers we were expecting never came. Now that he's in his senior year, I inquired with one of the media outlets about getting an evaluation and they told me that until he get's offers, they won't rate him. So the gist of it is, star ratings have more to do with how many offers a kid has than what the "experts" at these subscription websites consider real talent. There are a ton of kids who fly under the radar of these so called recruiting sites not because they lack talent, but because they haven't had their opportunity for play time. The real lack of talent are these hacks who call themselves "scouts". Most have never played the game or coached. I'm not saying kids who are ranked by these subscription sites aren't deserving, but remember, anyone can cheat off the smart kid and that is all most of these media outlets do.
