  1. If AAC Commish’ Arresco shocks the world & swings a P5 miracle for the AAC, then parking at DATCU Stadium will be a problem for our home season opener.

I love Northern Californians & look forward to meeting a few Bear fans on Game Day.  Family went out there years ago to visit my sister & her late husband in San Francisco. They were both Army working at the Presidio’s General Letterman Hospital.  It was the best vacation ever.

PS:  Marketing all of Denton County for new fans should be our new game plan

  2. Watch half (or more of the 1’st quarter of ULM vs TEXAS in both their 2022 season opener & I think we’ll all get a good idea why the Mean Green got a good portal transfer with Mr. Chandler Rogers.

    (From the LH Network)

FILL IT vs the CAL BEARS!

Until we show we care by filling our venues, we can have an enrollment of 75,000 and the world would not notice.

Win & then put a series of winning seasons together?  My ancient era was the last to see 4 above .500 seasons in a row, ie, post Indian wars.

  4. I agreed with another alum today for another version of the PAC. He said many of them were even meeting tonight (except UNT was not part of that meeting).🤢

    AAC will say goodbye to:

•••SMU (money, money, money & NIL gold•••Tulane (former SEC school)…Rice U (will spend part of their multi-billion endowment if they were in a P5 PAC ??;   UTSA (the big surprise of all because—when they win—San Antonio supports them, SA is a tourist destination city with the Alamo, the River Walk, major college sized stadium that also has a bowl game—sorry, but how many G5 conferences with schools who have 30,000 seat stadiums are part of any discussion for a Power 5 conference?  How about none? Big donors at SMU like Garry Webber saw this & are now taking care of business at G. Ford Stadium.
🦅  It’s our school so no matter how all this plays out—I’ll still see (some of you) at DATCU Stadium vs the CAL Bears.  •••All we can do in spite of the times we live with all this NCAA non-sense is to keep blooming where planted.

  5. Last time UNT played a home season opener in sweltering heat was against the Baylor Bears.
Pregame at the Fouts Field parking lot that day was 105 degrees.  (The Mean Green bested the Big 12 Baylor Bears as I recall & before the expected huge crowd that day).

So here’s one possibility to cool off the crowd for a 3:00 pm kick in a few weeks.

  6. If this is still all about a P5 vs G5 NCAA D1 existence we should wish American Athletic Conference Commissioner Areska good luck 🍀 in getting those 2 designations dropped.  With a 12 team football playoff what do the designations really mean any more?

    Also:

The Dan Patrick Show reported San Diego State still intends on going to the Pac-12, and that SMU, Boise State, and UNLV are possible additions for the conference as well.

SAY WHAT?!?!😳  Those in the PAC12 now or in the future who are extremely academic-conscious (like Stanford among others) should really get excited about possible future PAC12 member Boise State U’s Truck Driving School being in its curriculum. https://cdltrainingtoday.com/schools/id/boise-state-university/

  7. In all fairness,  we are not the only school with a “different look” kind of end zone.
I sat by a Rice Owls football letterman & his family in the Wing Zone (during the Covid era) & he said: “These end zone seats are quite good.”

🍕 With Papa John pizza founder John Schnatter initially being UL’s biggest stadium contributor, some might be surprised their end zone doesn’t look like a pizza or even a slice of pizza.

We had one chance and in my humble opinion we blew it. I remember being overjoyed when I first heard the news we were finally getting a new stadium. Then I saw the drawings. No way!! Certainly there has been a terrible mistake. Someone tell me this is a bad joke. What the hell is that gaudy, tasteless  looking endzone structure. Why!!!
Why can’t we just be normal!! Why the freaking hideous looking gimmick? Why couldn’t we just make a bowl? Or leave that end zone open and put a real upper deck with concessions on the student side? Only at North Texas.

We deserve the stadium ranking we received. Even the elevation is plain and boring. In fact it looks like a 1960’s office building.
    Thank you RV.

note: yes it is better than Fouts.

Oh gosh yes it’s better than Fouts!😆 That first significant crowd noise at Apogee vs the UH Coogs we all knew it was a brand new era.

ADLER & others of you  might agree, but looking at the recent rendering of a future south end zone facility at Apogee you have to wonder if we’re going to go backwards again. God I hope not.

If the Wing was rounded off as it should have been from the git-go  & the Student Side had a double deck Apogee would have a whole different (better)  college FB stadium look IMO.

…but Bobcat Stadium better than Baylor U’s?

Still from the outside the stadium just looks better.  We don’t have regular seating at on end zone either.  Our stadium is functionally better no doubt but that isn’t what they are judging here.

When Apogee is almost full there’s no better looking stadium in the G5.
Its acoustics double the noise of those in attendance.  I remember UH Coogs Coach Kevin Sumlin having to call 2 crowd noise timeouts.

Outside of the top 30 who really cares?  And objectively I can see why Bobcat Stadium is ranked far ahead of Apogee.  It has a classic look.  Our wing end zone section looks temporary/high school-ish.

  11. DENTON COUNTY OFFICIALLY GOES OVER 1,000,000 IN POPULATION!  (HO HUM OR BEAT THE DRUM & SOUND THE TRUMPETS)?

The link below is for certain a positive non-distraction (like this MWC thing has become for some). Many of us will be anxious to see how UNT Athletics handles all the new faces in Denton County or do we go with yet another “ho hum” attitude & do the “business as usual” routine that many of us have mostly seen for over half-a-century up there?
Watching the NCAA rules committee carry on like the U.S. Congress (led by one in the WH who’d get lost in a 7-11 store) & with  a group who seem to not know their caca from their oatmeal) is a real spirit-breaker for many (unless you are getting special perc$ from China, Russia, Ukraine, etc).  Texas being a Republic (once again) is for darn sure in my bloodlines.  I don’t see the U.S. as a 50 states un-unified country in light of watching Congress interact the way they do. (Where is Rod Serling to explain all this to us anyway)?
    So….Hello & Good Night!🙄

  12. The TV cameras at games inside Apogee are most the tIme zero’ing in on the half empty (or half full) Student Side, but maybe one day in the future our Student Side may look more like this rather than the one we have now that looks more like a Texas 5A or 6A HS stadium.

It was all Hayden Fry's fault.  He vowed that he would never coach at a college that didn't have "University" at the beginning of the college's name.

Brother Jack…I might be wrong here but I believe Hayden first started that “University of” talk right after he got the “University of” Iowa job in December of 1978.  Hope all is well for you.

  14. What took them so long?  I figured this
day would come.  UTA has access to AT&T Stadium, a Major League Baseball stadium nearby & on & on.

Many of us on GMG were at the Grand Opening of their Maverick Stadium in 1980 with the Mean Green winning that game.

I used to say  something about another “UT” system school  starting up football, but last time I did I had to eat a lot of crow.

Fasten your seatbelts, Denton & fellow UNT alums…

I guess I am still getting used to a national announcement stating "North Texas to headline..."

Total obscurity was not that many decades ago.

Especially obscurity from the DFW media who got tired of the annual tease from Denton when we told them we finally had it going on—but still how we could never put a string of winning seasons & key wins over P5 schools together (except until recently) to make believers out of them.
Winning & drawing D1 type attendance changes everything.

Also we had 8000+ just a couple of years ago at a game to clinch the regular season title, right?  I'm sure that was a lit crowd too.

It was the La Tech game  & one of the most satisfying times many of us had in the Super Pit since it opened in 1972.
Here was one of the celebrity fans at that game (along with Mrs. Travis).  The TV broadcasters had fun with this moment.  5B3FFAFD-1D1B-472B-891C-D005D7ADC6FB.jpeg.524ad0d16fde40cd5418cb7a9680a93d.jpeg
