Judging by how the courts ruled in the Penn St. case, and this new precedent, I would think those schools should give it a go.
Even schools with "Indians", "Braves", "Tribe", etc... mascots likely could as well.

"Redskins" though, to me, is a different animal altogether.  It's a derogatory term.  Seems like a word Andrew Jackson would use alot, alongside another particular word to describe black folks.

That last part is what I was thinking through the whole discussion. If somebody wanted to name their mascot the N-bomb, would the same people trying to justify Redskins be okay with it?

Really makes one wonder how good the UK is at gather intelligence and acting on said intelligence to potential terrorists. Three attacks in three months.

Saw it trending on FB asking for the Theresa May to resign. Looks like the citizens of the UK are starting to suffer from things like cuts to the PD and security/intelligence departments.

I don't think it's specifically an issue with their intel. I think it's mostly a combination of 2 things that make gathering and using intel more difficult.

First, the more open immigration policies in many EU countries, as well as the ease of travel, have allowed a lot of people in for a long time...and even with some members leaving the EU, the damage is already done. Those people have gotten in and have recruited from those countries' citizens to make it harder to appropriately tag the problems.

Secondly...geography. Most people, especially in the Americas, don't realize how close the Middle East is to Europe. Even with heightened security measures, it's quicker and easier for someone to sneak in there than it is for them to cross oceans to get to their target.

In short: our geography and tougher immigration and entrance policies (no matter how soft some people claim they are) have made it much more difficult for these people to engage in these quick, small attacks. Plus...our citizens have lots of guns. Even the people with illegal ones who are involved with drugs and other major problems would put a bullet into the head of anyone trying a massacre like the bridge stabbings if it happened here. I'm not supporting illegal firearms or the drug trade, but am pointing out that San Bernadino and such take place where the culprits know it's unlikely to encounter anyone with a firearm until police arrive and they can do maximum damage. Try it in College Station and you won't get 2 shots off. Do it in the inner city where drugs and gang violence are a problem...even our criminals will protect their community against a terrorist attack.

The war on terror continues...but we have the upper hand.

The same Comey, that the Democrats were howling for his ouster.  Trump is a disaster in many ways, but attacking him for things like this which is fully in his rights to do, is just partisan politics as usual.

One of the simplest and most relevant points made by one of my conservative friends was kind of referenced herein...but really...so many of the Democrats who were calling to get rid of Comey for everything about Hillary during the election are now vehemently opposed to his firing because Trump did it? I'm still waiting to see if more comes out one way or the other to decide how I feel about it all...but I think it's tacky for people who completely oppose someone to suddenly rush to his defense just because the other party ousted him rather than their own. Divisiveness for the sake of party and not for the sake of outcomes is ridiculous. Fortunately, it doesn't sound like any of you fall into that category.

Can you get that extra game allowance in football if you play a game at Hawaii?

    Yep.

But I agree with the posts about consistency. Even if we win 10 or 11, nobody at a P5 is jumping to hire him away unless they're a lower end program and are in such dire straits that they can't snatch up someone with a longer history of success as an HC. Even then...he may not take it.

Plus, look at this year's schedule. Even if our performance is middle of the road (compared to all fbs schools), that would get us 6 for sure and probably 2 or 3 more if we're slightly better than average. 2 or 3 10 win seasons including a couple of big upsets and great recruiting could do it. Faring better than the average mid major for a year or two with a schedule that isn't very tough? Nope...no worries about him being offered if that's how it goes.

The question is, why would they want Littrell now?  We had the same number of TD passes in the 2016 regular season as we did in 2015.  Nothing earth-shattering happened with the offense that would draw OU's attention (or, anyone else on that level) to put him at OC.

We won five games - three when Jeffrey Wilson bailed out the offense in the second half of games.  You think OU would be sniffing around the door for that?

So, relax.  He'll be here.  The only way he leaves is if we do have a couple of winning seasons in a row, then a Tulsa/San Diego State-type program opens up.

If we fart around at three to five wins, year after year, we will simply eat a very expensive contract at some point.

You really think he would leave for a Tulsa or SDSU? Unless the pay increase was huge...I wouldn't expect him to uproot his family again for basically a half step up. Tulsa is still close to home, for sure, but if he's doing well here, I would expect that he would hold out for a P5 job...and only if the pay and situation were awesome. A couple hundred grand more going into a HC position where he's essentially on the hot seat from year one could be counterproductive in the long run...and walking away from success with us for a MWC or AAC job that may or may not work out as well is similarly risky.

Of course, this is still all cart-before-the-horse discussion, because he has to do well for a couple of years here for any of that to be feasible anyway. But even so...I really don't see him leaving for anything other than a major conference...or hopefully he is the one who helps us turn the corner, brings in tons of revenue, and gets us into one of the big conferences. Big dream, for sure...but it's the same one we've always had. So we keep hoping the new guy could be the one to get us there.

  6. I've thought about AGT and The Voice...but every competition or open call I've ever done, I've made the initial cut or had a callback but never went further. So I still might, but if I keep doing shows and record a (music) album it may be better use of my time than these massive auditions where tv producers find people who fit what they're looking for. It kind of has to be that way for them to get their ratings, but there's a lower percentage of success of people auditioning than of those who network and perform to grow their brand. Plus with the internet, one viral hit can make a career nowadays.

  7. I think we're all around the same range here, give or take a couple of games. Most of that is due to the schedule. I see a minimum of 5 wins, likely 6 or 7, and as many as 9. It just comes down to what happens in tight games. Win them, we're at 9...maybe even 10. Lose them, we're at 5. If Seth is as we expected, i.e. able to improve over others even as they improve, I'll take 8.

  8. Without having read some of the later replies, BTG brings up a great point...they would have to REALLY want Seth to pay the buyout plus a pay increase...and as much as Seth loves OU, they would have to give him a considerable pay jump to get him to take a step down in coaching hierarchy. Without a big jump in pay, I don't see him leaving for anything other than a higher end HC position.

  9. We have a UNT grad with her own practice in Dallas who was accepting applications from UNT law students for entry level work before this announcement even hit. If anybody knows a UNT Law student who may be interested, they can check with Krummel Law to see if she's still looking. Her practice is in employment law and discrimination...and it appears she's growing so fast that she already needs more hands. And she's a boxer. Kind of awesome.

  10. Some of those demands are pretty reasonable, like the creation of an equity and diversity center. But some are weird. Like the part where the code of conduct has to be approved by students...well...if they felt a state or federal law was one they didn't want to adhere to, it would be left off...even though it's a state funded school that could lose its funding if found to be noncompliant. I agree with your points about writing abilities...syntax aside, these demands weren't very well researched. Or perhaps they put in some extreme ones on purpose just to get concessions on the more realistic ones.

  11. Just in case any of you will be in Vegas on July 8th...

I'm not promoting cannabis but the show will be at a blended comic book/legal cannabis convention. Admission is free to anyone attending the convention. I'll be selling art and prints during the day and will then open for famous comedians including Carlos Alazraqui from Reno 911. It's just for one show, but is an awesome opportunity!

@Harry, can I post a link, or would that violate your board policies on solicitation? If I can't post the link...anybody can pm me for details if that's allowable.

    Super excited!

  12. It's brand equity. Ever since colleges became as much business as education, sports have become an advertising expense. Just like Marlboro pays people to set up games and give away prizes at bars, and every food company pays old ladies to give away samples at Sam's Club, colleges use sports to get their brand out to consumers. Many modern college bound graduates come from families with not many members with degrees. Sports give colleges a window into those families, as well as others with educations who need that reminder as to who is there that they may not have thought of since their friend/cousin/coworker mentioned checking us out when their kid was applying.

Any word about Eric Keena ?

    GO MEAN GREEN

Kickers so rarely get picked up in the draft though. If he does well in camps, I really doubt he gets completely passed over. I think there were 1 or 2 drafted this year.

Was Jamize Olawale a UDFA?  He's still with the Raiders.

Yeah man...he was undervalued with us but did well in camp or something and got picked up. He didn't really have enough game time to even be on anyone's radar for the draft.

  14. Hopefully this is just the elephant in the room, but I can almost guarantee you that they were doing it to mess with somebody who pissed them off. There was probably an issue regarding a girlfriend or other emasculation to at least one of them. I can all but guarantee that this was not motivated by money.

After working in Housing and serving on various committees...plus knowing lots of weird and wacky people...this is pretty much in line with personal issues with someone rather than an attempt to get money or goods.

Woolridge and Lawson are eligibility freshmen.

Do we need to re-up Benford through 2020 to make sure they earn their degrees?

Or, does Benford have to stay on extended evaluation at least through June until the academic semester is over?

August, in case anyone needs summer credits to stay on track?

How does firing him during the season disrupt the players' education?  Does Benford teach classes on the side?

That's nowhere near the point. Things have been tumultuous enough already for these guys. If it was 2 years ago, then yes, cut things off as soon as you decide to let him go. But the outcome of his contract and this season will not be changed. Why give them added stress?
