I thought with our schedule we could swing 8 or 9 if we won the close ones. We did. That's a huge part of growing a G5. The next step is not having as many close ones and beating some bigger opponents. If Seth can pull that off im the next year or 2, we're finally on the right trajectory and will hopefully maintain it, a la our old Big West pals from Boise State.

My thoughts exactly.

I did. Don't remember if he really explained why he said that, because I'd need some explanation...
That kind of compliment on national tv makes me happy enough that I don't even care what his reasons were.

Other than the times they beat us and played spoiler on our seasons I don't really have anything to hate on Troy for. When teams like MTSU and UTEP played us dirty multiple times, yeah. But Troy has been the team that I hate to hate. It's true about the academics there, but they haven't been douches and their fans aren't like the FAU or Cincy fans. If the team or fans have been dicks to us at any point, I've missed it. I hate when they beat us but their team and fans have always been classy when I've been around for games.

Did anyone else catch that comment during the game coverage?

Paging @SUMG
This is the guy you want to talk to for advice/encouragement in this particular field. After all these years, I didn't know there was another comedian in our midst! Well...most of you are really funny on here, but I meant in terms of performance.

I know there aren't many on here who are in/visit AZ, so I haven't been putting many updates about my adventures in stand-up. If anyone will be coming through or wants to catch a show, be sure to send me a PM!
I still only make a few bucks from comedy, which is more than most, but it has been a wild ride. In July, I opened a show for Carlos Alazraqui (Reno 911), Nicki Fuchs, Bruce Jingles (Showtime), Sean Savoy (Comedy Central), Craig X (Weeds), and Amazon Eve (American Horror Story). I've been booking a few professional shows around Phoenix and auditioned to open for Jay Mohr live on 97.9 kupd. I didn't win, but it was an awesome experience! The live stream from Thursday morning is available on their Facebook page.
I also have some art projects that will be coming out soon and will post when the clients are ready to go public with the products!
Gmg!

Yes, every great recruiter runs down the school he is trying to sell to recruits. DD had one great class, 2000 other than that despite winning four conference championships his recruiting was lacking.
One of his quotes was that he never lost a recruit he made an offer to. Sounds great, but too me it signals the non aggressive recruiting style that DD employed. Note, he did lose plenty later on in his NT career.
He did get some great players, but he was here for a long time. In general, his classes were pedestrian and got worse and worse late in his career.
Rivals ratings, the most important back then; NT was not in top 99 in 2002, 83 in 2003, 72 in 2004, 94 in 2005 and not in top 97 in 2006. Also factor in there were 11 less fb division teams in 2006. Not McCarney bad, but hardly support he was good recruiter.
Were you rushing that, or is it doing the same weird "delete the word you're typing" thing it does to me when I comment here?

All of the analyses here are pretty sound. I really think this will come down to the Mean Green offense adjusting to the Trojan defense...and Special Teams. Those 2 things will either win it for us...or let it run away a la FAU. This should be a close game...but either team could lose big if they can't adjust to some likely big plays and offensive setbacks.

Well yeah but I'm in AZ so there's no way. That's why I was pulling for Albuquerque.

Haha these replies are hilarious. I really would prefer as many bowls as possible for our conference though. Even if it's teams we don't like. But as long as we have one...even a lower tier bowl...I'm not really as worried about every one else. Priorities and all that.

With an early kickoff and the way the game went, a majority of North Texas fans are now officially alcoholics.

Dude these announcers are cracking me up trying to subtly troll Kiffen.

Good attitude. Still unlikely but hey when the guys start showing some shine...might as well throw in a little hope.

I really do hope you get your dream matchup against MWC #4/#5 ColoState. It sounds like there are several that are pulling for it will have a sweet time in ABQ.
However, I am hoping for more either a better team or better destination (hopefully both). #newdenton.
We all are. But if it comes down to NO or NM I think more of you will have fun in NO without me than in NM even though I'd love to meet up for the game. I have a short drive, a place to stay, and might make a few extra bucks on art and comedy while I'm there so it would be a great trip for me to NM but I honestly think it's better for most fans to be able to make it to NO. Hopefully we will get some bowl trades and have a better option than either though.

Dear Coach Kiffin - please call off the dogs early and don't make this thing end 70 - 10. Thanks for your consideration.
Hate games like this where we look so small and so slow.
I think they score 1 more time and put in the 2nd string. Or rack up points for ranking purposes but risk an injury before the bowl. Kiffen is good but reckless so I assume the latter.

This game is another reality check. We are a good mid-level G5 team but when we go up against upper level G5 teams or P5 teams we don’t have the strength or speed to compete.
Let's play Kansas and Illinois.

I was going to say the same thing.

Game. Sorry boys, but this team isn’t that good. Defense is terrible. Offense apparently can’t be bothered to make plays. Totally getting outclassed in every phase on National TV. NOLA bowl would be a gift at this point. I don’t want to hear anything about how playing a team like Troy or AState is beneath us because it’s totally untrue.
Biggest problem for me is we always find a team that is our poison no matter how good we are. FAU has been that team before...MTSU and Troy as well. Even UTEP wasn't good but Jones stymied us. Likely that Kiffen won't be at FAU soon so hopefully this scourge upon us will end soon.

I still hate that interception but really appreciate the story they told about Jalen Young's brother. Good kid.

I know we're supposed to hate them...but I read last night (I think on the Bottom 10) that Kiffin was trolling Tennessee on Twitter. throughout their game last week. I was disappointed to see that wasn't the case. That would have been hilarious.

I hate when they show the announcers. That dude's lazy eye is freaking me out. Ugh we really needed to recover that muffed punt reception.

I just posted another bowl topic...but yeah if the preferable bowls are off the table for us then how is it the fault of the staff and admin that we have to choose between 3 smaller bowls that all have a couple of good and bad details to compare?

Of course we would love to be in or near the top 25 every year...and with our resources, we should be...but finally being in a situation that will hopefully lead to that, these 2 years of rapid progress have been great quick leaps. Another year or two progressing at this rate will put us where we always wanted to be. So are we Clemson or LSU or Boise State? No. We should have been at that level long ago, but didn't have the necessary support in-house. But is it exciting as hell for most of us that we may finally be on the path to that? Absolutely.
