We were NOT selected in this writers top 25, however there was a section at the bottom for top 5 underdog teams.  We were on that list and so was UAB.  Houston was as well, which is relevant because we play them next season.

    Edit:

    Forgot the link:

Yeah even though I like seeing us with UAB and Houston, the obvious offseason changes for both teams (seniors, HC loss, etc) make me wonder if they were also looking to hype some matchup games among teams that were hot-or-not this year.

This is beside the point of this thread - but - Are we sure we got 4th place? I actually sent a note to C-USA about this yesterday, because the CUSA Championship game showed the following in West: 1 - UAB, 2 - North Texas, 3 - SO Miss, 4 - LA Tech.  However, CUSA site shows this: 1 - UAB, 2 - North Texas, 3 - LA Tech, 4 - SO Miss. Technically, it's a 3-way tie for 2nd place with our conference division records, but our overall record is notably better than the other 2.  We lost to LA Tech, but beat SM. LA Tech beat us, but lost to SM. SM beat LA Tech, but lost to us. Either way, both sources quoted us as ending up in 2nd place.  Not that it means anything now, but 2nd sounds better than 4th. Just throwing that out there.

That's the West. You're excluding the entire other half of the conference.

  3. Just curious...with Mason limping and people questioning it...was there a chance he was hurt coming into the LaTech game and we put him in because it was one of the bigger conference games? If he is hurting but not truly injured he can still play if vetted, yes?

Congrats. Woulda, coulda, shoulda been better. Our top RB was out too. We simplified what we were doing after the first quarter and outscored you 23-6. We deserved the win, better in all three phases. Much more physical.

The way the game played out, yeah. I think honestly...our guys were high on how well they performed OOC and weren't ready to perform the same way in a close game. I was worried about 3 more on the schedule and this was possibly the biggest one. Hopefully the Dogs taught our guys the lesson they needed. Every game is huge but there were only 3 conference games I was worried about and hopefully the first one sucking gave the necessary development. Southern Miss and FAU will be coming hard for us just like you did. I think the ass stomping of the first 4 games may have done our guys a disservice against LaTech.

Exactly. Elite program means competing for conference championships and a spot in the CFP on a routine basis. Think Oklahoma. Otherwise, why leave a place that you’ve built into a perennial, respected G5 power where your family loves it and is compensating you and your staff accordingly (albeit at the top of the G5)?

Follow what a Chris Petersen did as a practical example. 8 years at Boise State winning 88% of his games, had plenty of opportunities with P5 programs “fishing”, but stayed until he received one of his dream jobs. Now, he’s not going anywhere, and his family is set.

If you look at UNT, Littrell and his staff have made the turnaround, and now the fun is just beginning. As others have posted, how good can you be with players who are the caliber of athletes in the 2019 signing class, or what we can imagine the 2020 class will be? It’s scary really, and it all goes back to “this place can be a monster”, and his family and his staff’s families love the North Texas area and community. Again, stay here until you get an elite job that’s the right fit for you and your family.

I am almost echoing you echoing me...but so many people (and not just North Texans) have said for decades that we could be HUGE in football and have been a wasted enterprise. Yeah, we had moves in the early years and then brief jumps with Fry and Greene....but nothing long term. If Seth is the guy who takes this potential and runs with it...why leave for anything other than a top 5/10-ish program if he makes a legacy and gets PAID for his effort and his family is happy and stable?

Nah. I don't want a G5 championship game while the P5 get their party uninterrupted. Lets both be party crashers this year. Have us both play solid P5 programs and knock them both off. We as the G5 need as many bowl wins over P5s as we can get.

    Yes and see below.

NY6 bowls give a bid to one g5 team, it wouldn’t be two. Last year was UCF, year before was WMU, then Houston, and then Boise State.

Very good point...shit. I keep forgetting they are the "cusp" conference and not the low end of the big boys, plus how the New Year's Bowls realigned. I don't have time to keep up anymore. But even if we both fall short of the NY6 it would be a cool matchup.

    Keep it clean please!

Ok keeping it clean...OP means original poster. He thinks that my belief that the calls should be made in the legal way that guarantees the safety of the players is invalid, since the desired result of the game is intact. He also believes that my views of what is important about athletics are invalid, and he therefore picks topics and replies to attempt to ridicule me, even though his own friends have agreed that he does it just to be a jerk.

Is that clean enough a response? If not, I will try to provide a diagram that includes rainbows and unicorns the next time this person who has "blocked" me wants to create drama. Oh...wait...it's my fault if I respond to it, according to him. So can we all agree that he should either produce some unicorns or stop being a jerk...or both?

I've never understood why they don't use 3rd party conference officiating crews for non-conference games.

The room full of retirees watching the game with me probably would have agreed. But even with the officials overlooking so many things...we still nailed it. Nice when your guys have to fight the other team AND the officials and still come out ahead. I think a lot of people were willing to overlook bad calls just because we were able to keep WINNING.  But that doesn't make it any less dangerous to make bad calls!

@GMG_Dallas is right, I believe.  you want as many chances against the top P5 programs as you can get.  P5s not having to worry about ever facing G5s, even undefeated ones, seems to only reinforce their position on the totem pole.

In your scenario, you get what we saw UCF saw last year: a winner's legit claim for the national championship with no system in place that allows them to prove it.

Of course. That's what we would all love to see. But based on the existing system, it's unlikely that either of us will sniff a chance at taking on the top 4. So when it comes down to bowls it's not about taking down a low end P5. It's about rankings. Remember the Boise vs. Louisville Motor City Bowl game? Make it epic and ride it into the next season. Why would we want a game against an unranked p5 if we could have a killer ranked game?

Just keep winning and get the best bowl. That's the focus until deciding on which bowl to take.

  10. If a P5 is in a down season...they would have to be lower rung to offer at this point (a la Western Michigan to Minnesota) and we are paying well enough to provide a more solid future. And Seth will need to turn us into a Boise State level program before a P5 with better funds and a real future offers. We are actually paying well now. Of course if he gets offered OU in the next couple of years he is outta here. Maybe Tech or another up and down P5 but honestly I don't see him leaving for anything other than an elite program if he keeps elevating the program and getting paid accordingly.

Ah Jesse 😄 Same old Jesse 😄 Good to see you're still on the board though.

haha well thanks...I think! I pop in occasionally. I'm actually a professional comedian now (but poorly paid so I still have other jobs including my art), so my nights are usually full and I don't get online much anymore. Still not sure which acquaintance you are haha. But I do love the weird bunnies you always have as your pics.

bitching about officiating in a 40 point win is so lame

Dude...I was wondering where the helmet hit Mason's knee and whether he would be Fine (haha). It isn't about the win...it's about the risk of injury to players. Plenty of players have taken somebody out for a season as "revenge" for getting their asses kicked.

  13. Holding call to bring back our td when the opponent was guilty, if anyone. Contact after a call for a fair catch. And of course targeting Mason's knee on a late hit out of bounds. I hope he is okay after that. The team would have been having to beat the refs as well as our opponent if it wasn't such a one sided game. I'm glad the announcers called it out when these happened as well, but those are some pretty major events to all happen in one half for an officiating staff to screw up without anyone doing anything. They really do seem to have it on their minds that the P5 team should be above us.

Probably not. Part of an "almost" sellout against SM-who was because the SMUT fans can travel. La Tech, will too, but not nearly as much.

SMU doesn't travel for shit, even 20 miles away. LaTech travels better and has a better fanbase even though they are further away. Plus they are cool fans. That's a much better opponent fan section in every way.
