  1. Look...I definitely get the reasons people are back and forth about the likelihood of New Orleans. I, too, feel like it would be a bit of a step backwards but want to confirm some things that seemed to have made it clearer, without finger pointing and just analyzing possibilities.

Independence and HOD seem to be off the table at this point unless bowl committees do a lot of trading and shuffling...right? I mean our first HOD was like that too. I hope they are just looking at it from that angle and would take one of those two instead if things rolled our way in bowl trades after today's games.

So of the remaining likely ones...Armed Forces for a 2nd Army rematch in 2 years? I'm always happy when we play academies but this would be kind of blah.

So New Mexico against MWC or New Orleans against the Belt seems like the most reasonable debate and we're essentially deciding between a slightly better bowl and opponent in NM or a likely bigger contingent of our fans in NO. Obviously you all know I would prefer NM since I could probably actually go and help set up some cool events for us. But the growing crowd of fans is a big reason for the undefeated season at home and I'm thinking a big part of the reason for taking a less preferable bowl...which is also earlier and gives less extra practice time...is that they want tons of you there. They may get that with another Army rematch or maybe not. And hopefully if either of the other 2 come available to us they will jump and trade up.

Other than my guesses at reasoning...is the rest correct? Or did I miss something? (and yeah I'm still quietly hoping for New Mexico so I can see all of you but I think that's why Seth and co. are leaning towards NO as well...to see more of you if their best options are between those 2.)

I don’t disagree but it’s just time for another flavor for us as much as I like the easy trip to dallas.  It’s time to get out there in the rest of the world of bowls it feels like.  I really don’t have a sound argument for why that’s a good thing other than MAYBE some extra exposure and a fresh vibe for the kids.  NO, Independence and even New Mexico sound better to be than HoD unless there is a P5 opponent.

But look who we have played in those. Army was a 7-5 team that people were wondering if they would make a bowl. We were the 5-7 team who shouldn’t have been in. Both of those teams last year were some of the last to be placed. Good conference teams get good conference bowls against a team with a good record In their perspective conference, assuming that both are G5 or P5. You won’t see a 10-2 CUSA team play a 6-6 AAC team just because that matchup will bring fans. You will see 6-6 vs a similar record like 7-5 from two G5 schools. If you bring in a P5, then a lower P5 vs high G5 is what you get in that rare instance. 2013 is a bad example because we got our bowl bid we wanted but there wasn’t a Big 10 or Big 12 team available to play us so we got stuck with UNLV. No way that they should have played us but that’s who we got stuck with.

I don't disagree with either of you on any level. I'm just saying that seems the most likely landing spot. If they get a chance to fill it with 2 P5 teams then they will...but otherwise, they will likely take us. Honestly this seems like a good year for them to make some trades and put us against Texas but we will see what happens.

    Across the board, I got:

    Sagarin: 94

    CBS: 66

    USA Today: 45

    RealTime RPI: 39

    All...over...the...freakin'...map.

Which if any of these do bowl committees look at?

Conference standings and record. Fan turnout and distance are secondary measures.

That's not what our 2 HOD appearances have shown. They want a big crowd and ticket sales and such. So they have done bowl trades in the past to get our 40k instead of another team's 5 to 10 k. My bet is we get HOD again unless we get offered a better bowl.

I posted my objections when a tweet showed several of our players dressed in flags. I know everyone does this now but there is a U.S. Code which addresses this. Do other teams alter their uniforms to reflect a patriotic theme when they play a service academy?

I must admit the only time I was ashamed of our university was when one of our players mocked the cadets by saluting them after a big play at the game at West Point. I hope we offered them a formal apology.

I missed that. Are we sure it was mocking, or might have it been respectful sportsmanship? If it's definitely the former then I agree.

As to the helmets...I'm down with patriotic symbolism especially when playing service academies. And win or lose, I love having our guys play them as often as possible. You want football to be American then play some badass Americans.

  6. Hey all,

I've been so busy with work and travel that I haven't done any watch parties this year...posted on FB to see if anyone was interested but everyone else here has been busy as well. I want to do one for UTEP and possibly Rice if we will be back from Thanksgiving for the latter. I have a few alums who come when they're free but lately that's been tough for everyone's schedules. So if any of you will be in AZ and want me to set something up let me know...right now I only have 1 other interested alum and a couple others that I know will come if they can but probably won't be free because of work and family commitments. Otherwise...party of one at my place! Haha

  7. Aaron Jones had our number. If not for him, I doubt they would have beaten us these past few years. Still...this one needs to be taken seriously. And they have gotten really dirty in the past so our guys need to watch each others' backs. We could win the game and lose a couple of key starters to injuries.

I drove 12 hrs each way last eeek to Iowa. So much fun!!'

I do that when we're at UTEP. Made it for UTSA and LT last year too. With 3 kids and 3 jobs it's hard to do regularly though.

Well it says I've registered before...so this must be one of the ones I tried to use before that didn't have the game when I signed up for the trial. It's okay....I can still listen on kntu....

    First, welcome to the board.

Some of us on here have thrown around the idea of creating a traveling flag type trophy. Basically, the flag would have a large state of Texas on it and the logos of each of the 4 C-USA Texas programs at their respective locations. Across the bottom of the flag it would read, "Come and Take It!". At the first head to head match-up between C-USA Texas programs, the flag would be flown at the southern end zone. At the conclusion of the game the winning team would run it down the pole and take it to their sideline. The flag would stay with that team until they played another C-USA Texas team... and the same scenario would play out again.

I'm sure RV was aware of this idea, but I'm not sure if it was ever conveyed to Baker. I still think it is a great idea, but I doubt the C-USA programs outside of Texas would like it.

Who cares if the other teams like it if the Texas ones are in?

As to whether it's a rivalry...aside from the movements in favor of one...the fact that those opposed are so vehement about it is actually one more reason that it works!

  10. I guess the syntax is important here. They're not asking about performance in a given school...lota of these are new or just arrived last year aftwr successes elsewhere. But even though I voted for Seth out of loyalty (he's in first at the moment), if you consider it as a metric of success in their current position, he would still probably be top 3 or 4. Patterson is a reasonable pick. A couple of others too. But most can't really be valued much until they show some degree of success.
