  1. NOTE:  Even Lee Jackson in a DMN article several months ago was extolling the (already known) fact that "UNT is not a wealthy institution" (or words to that affect).

Part of the reason NT is still a Tier 4 University.

Don't know about any of you, but it really does sorta' bother me that many pro athletes have contract$ that could more than get our new stadium jump-started but..................oh well.sad.gif

Hell, many pro athletes have contracts worth twice as much as NT's total endowment! Now how do you feel? blink.gif

  2. Noteworth-

    DEVELOPMENT RESULTS

-Mean Green Club over 600 members and near $500,000 in annual giving

-Corporate revenues at $1,000,000 and growing

-Capital dollars pledged and raised near $7,000,000 and proposals consistently being presented

-Completed facility projects provide additional opportunities for capital dollars

-More donors identified and cultivated for future gifts

Assuming these are, in fact, correct numbers, we have a long way to go, but at least we are showing improvement. What is dissappointing to me is the fact none of this development work was started when we became D1A again. Looks like we lost 8 years of development. Couple the 8 years with the 20+ years in D1AA purgatory....... It's easy to see what has/is going on at NT.

  3. I was at that game in Littlerock, with 45000 others. Leo Taylor rushed for 111 yards and Barry Moore caught 10 passes for 155 yards.NT had 354 total yards offense, 114 yards rushing. Steve Ramsey was 21 of 36 passes, 2 intercepts. The headlines in the Arkansas Democrat next day read " Razorbacks excape with 17-15 victory. It was indeed one exciting game.

I witnessed it all. Me and half a dozen or so "road trip" veterans. rolleyes.gif

  4. My powerhouse comment was directed to the Sun Belt which was the context of this thread you moron.

Was this directed at me? If it was, I'll accept an apology from you and let it be. If being a powerhouse in the Sun Belt Conference is all you aspire for NT, then we might as well forget about moving up in conferences and possibly drop to 1AA. Frankly, I want to move up in the food chain, and when you are next to last in recruiting funds in the worst D1A conference in the country then your chances of remaining the "powerhouse" of the SBC will be remote. God forbid we try to improve out conference affiliation. ohmy.gif

  5. Following are the recruiting expenses reported by each Sun Belt School (football-playing only):

    UNIVERSITY                    TOTAL           MEN            WOMEN

    Florida Atlantic                $284,826      $212,377      $72,444

    Middle Tennessee              265,628       200,066        65,562

    Florida International          260,580        184,787        75,793

    Arkansas State                 186,149        131,614        54,535

    Troy                                 179,480       120,352        59,123

    Louisiana-Lafayette            167,894       132,741        35,153

    North Texas                       149,579        88,035        61,544

    Louisiana-Monroe               102,186        55,477        46,909

GrayEagleOne, do you have the link to the DOE report? Those are some significant differences even by lowly Sun Belt standards. I'd like to see what other athletic depts. from SMU, Tulsa, La Tech, UTEP, So. Miss, Memphis, UAB, etc., budget for athletics. It would also be interesting how much is spent on just football, men and womens basketball.

  6. Hard to disagree with you. Aside from a few questionable coaches, I question whether NT budgets enough funds for recruiting. Has anyone analyzed the data on recruiting from the recent post/news article that appeared here a week or so ago on revenues and expenses of D1 schools? It would be interesting to see how much NT spends, by sport and overall, compared to our peers from the Sun Belt, MAC, WAC, and CUSA conferences.

  7. Least we get too excited, this will be Woody's first D1A game too.

That's why we should start Phillips. Loosen them up with all types of passing plays-short routes, slants, long balls, etc. And do nothing but play tough the damn game. North Texas needs to somehow redeem themselves from the embarrassment of last years game with UT.

  8. players leaving before start of year and at mid-year.

lack of a strong #1-2 punch (a bust on a Top 5 JUCO recruit, again).

Can not close out tight matches, to many win the first set only to lose in 3 sets, lost a ton of 4-3 matches.

    A few minor injuries.

They should have 2 scholarships for next year, possibly more if players leave which seems to be a constant over the last 5 years.

UTA is a very good team also, even after their coach resigned last week.

Nah. We could only afford to hire a tennis coach that would accept $8.50 an hour to coach womens tennis.

  9. you people are so thick headed. no wonder ya'll argue so much on this board. no wonder NT has fallen to last in the conf. none of you think big all you do is find reasons not to succeed. go to other teams boards and read how they act. other board are cheering for there teams and making bold predictions. and as for TROY being a upper team. they have yet to beat ASU or win the conf.

NT fans feel about football the way ASU fans feel about basketball. Your coach isn't very popular there is he? huh.gif

  10. Maybe, if we slipped them a little under the table our ratings would improve.  That, or get a faculty that has some nationally recognized professors who have written a ton of books.

No doubt this goes on. But the john q public may not be aware of how some favored universities get tanked higher than others.

Did you see where TAMU Engineering is ranked way higher than Rice. Rice is a premier University. Go figure.

  11. US News & World Report just came out with their graduate schools rankings. The good news is that North Texas had a full page ad in the magazine.

The bad news is that no NT graduate school was ranked. The magazine ranked the top 50 Grad Schools in Business, Education and Medicine. They also ranked the top 100 Law Schools, plus 3rd and 4th tier Law Schools.

Not even the NT Medical School (NT Health Science Center) was in the top 50. I was also surprised that the NT College of Education was not in the top 50. I always thought we had one of the top education programs in the country. Can someone enlighten me? blink.gif
