  1. Im old school I'll admit.  I'd like to see the team in shirts & ties,  maybe even blazers.    Back in my day we wore ties on game days...AND WE LIKED IT!!! (Grumpy old man reference)

But I'd settle for matching polos...

That's exactly what many of the big programs do. Especially when they travel by to OOC games. Also, the game programs should have the players' pictures with coat and matching tie.

  2. "I feel like we can come in and be successful," said Dodge, the offensive coordinator for UNT in 1992-93. "It has really to do with selling the players about what can be done and teaching. There's good football players here."

    ________________________________________________________________

"[Dodge] is going to adjust to what we have," Jackson said. "A lot of people here are going to make plays for this team."

OK, this guy is already working on the minds of the current team. Already thinking positive, as one might expect a new coach to do. Looks like Jackson has bought into Dodge already.

  3. The hiring of Todd Dodge made the feature front page sports headlines in both the Port Arthur News and Beaumont Enterprise newspapers.

My only complaint in the news release was the mentioning of game attendance (9806) for the last home game, our average (16,000) was 30,000 fewer than the attendance at Texas Stadium for SLC's game; the firing of Dickey only a few weeks after his heart attack, and how the firing of Dickey upset a big time donor to UNT Athletics. MM's name was not mentioned, however.

Other than that, very good coverage and exposure for North Texas. I expect some followup coverage this weekend by a certain sports editor down here.

  4. One other thing: Coach Dodge has as much to lose in this as RV and UNT do. If this is his first step to a big-time college job, he needs to make a splash at this first stop. He needs the kind of success seen at Rutgers or Boise State. If he fails, its a big step back for his career.

Both he and RV are taking a chance, but the reward is just so huge that it's a risk worth taking.

You're partially correct. North Texas has to put Todd Dodge in position to win. If we "poor boy" the recruiting or other important ingredients to a successful program, then everyone fails.

  5. Besides myself, Coach Dodge could be the second Mean Green connection from Port Arthur, Tx. Welcome aboard coach!

And for those that don't know it, Todd Dodge's former high school coach, Ronnie Thompson, is now coaching at PA Memorial HS, formerly Thomas Jefferson. Coach Thompson schooled Dodge on the offense that Dodge runs.

Hmmmmmm. Ronnie Thompson for Offensive Coordinator at NT? rolleyes.gif

  6. I can't beleive we haven't even contacted Jimmy Johnson or Mike Ditka about, I mean come on, we need to interview everybody to find the best candidate. Right?  rolleyes.gif

That is the best idea and coaching candidate ever mentioned on this board! ohmy.gif Mike Ditka for the next Head Football Coach at North Texas. All you would need is Ditka - no assistants, no coaching trainees (well, maybe a token Brewster rolleyes.gif ) - JUST DITKA! That's all we would need. Ditka and the team(and maybe a token Brewster).

  7. Young can't play in the NFL.  Bad throwing mechanics.  NFL linebackers are too fast for him.

This is what I actually thought about Vince Young. Especially the fact that he could get killed running the ball with the fast LBs. I did think that Houston should have taken either Matt Leinert or Reggie Bush. Yes, Matt Leinert. They could have traded Carr for a couple of offensive linemen.

Something I realized after seeing the tireless replays of Vince Young running or throwing for winning TDs the past few weeks- Carr came from a decent mid-level, non-BCS program from the MWC in Fresno State. Vince Young came from the a National Championship BCS program in the Texas Longhorns.

    Houston really screwed up.

  8. "We wanted a coach who has a great offensive mind and has been in the trenches, a coach who can sell our program to the community and to student athletes that may have aspirations of coming to our university," said UNT athletic director Craig Helwig.

Anyone doubt that Helwig missed the boat on this hire? blink.gif

  9. Answer me this. If Todd Dodge is hired, suppose his son Riley does not come to North Texas and opts for one of the "big time" programs. Will everyone be okay with that, or will they be looking to tar and feather Todd Dodge? Hey, it could happen. I sure wouldn't hire TD just because I think he'll bring his highly sought after son to Denton in the following year.

  10. What?  We don't have any candidates from Kansas State?    You mean we may be interviewing qualified people?      This is still NT, right?    As a Chinese friend of mine said, "Sum Ting Wong!"    wink.gif
