  1. SMU plays TT in Dallas @ 3pm on Labor Day Sept. 3rd just 5 days prior on taking on the Mean Green. TD & Co. will have 2 extra days of rest and prepare for the Stangs. How much of an advantage is this and how much will the Phonies use this after we beat them again ?

Anyone going to go to the game to scout , watch ? I wouldn't mind tailgating with my Green shirt on and watching some College Football. I can't really pull for anyone , it's like picking the lesser of 2 evils, but still I LOVE the College football season.

    I will be there.

The heat of a 3pm kickoff and two less days rest might take a toll...but if we beat them it will be due to our beating their butts and not the lack of rest.

  2. Meager will lead us to many victories this season. He justs needs to forget about all the past sub-par poor performances and get on with the new regime.

Really? What in the past several years leads you to believe that when the big lights come on Meager will show up? Or, to be more specific, what leads you to believe he will step up any better than the rest of the QB's? I know he looked the best in spring ball but nobody was allowed to hit him for real and we were basically running a passing clinic to get accustomed to the system. And, if it's the poor coaching of the last regime that held him back, can't the same be said for all of the other QB prospects?

Not saying I don't think Daniel can do it...I think he has it in him. Just playing devil's advocate and wondering what you've seen that gives you such confidence that he is far and away the best option.

  3. You people that would prefer a win against SMU over OU....are you insane??!!!?!????

OU will be a pre-season Top 10 team and is already being picked to win the Big XII. SMU will be lucky to have a winning record. Beating OU this season could possibly be the biggest victory in the history of UNT football. Beating OU would be HUGE national attention...I'm talking the lead highlight on ESPN.

Although I have little hope that it will happen, I'd take the win over OU without blinking an eye.

Really? A win over OU without a SBC title in the same season only screams one thing...fluke! I don't want that. I want a season where we win the games we are "supposed" to and show consistency. Then, after the bowl win I'd like to see that next step taken. That was kinda the point of my question...do we really want a "signature win" if it's not followed up by season-long success?

  4. I know we all want to beat Oklahoma b/c it would let us thump our chests a bit and would make for great cooler talk today and for years to come but would worth it if not followed up by a stellar season?

    Which would you rather have?

A)Win over OU that leaves our team worn out and not having game planned for SMU...resulting in a loss the next week against SMU (ala TCU a few years back) and a few conference losses. Final season record 6-6.

B)Loss to OU, maybe even a big one, followed up by a convincing win over the ponies and losses to Navy and Ark but a run through the belt save a loss to Troy or MUTS. Final season record 9-3 with the trip to N.O.

And just to make this a worthwhile thread the following is not an option,

"I just wanna win 'em all"

    Pick either A or B.

  5. Unlike the subject of the previous thread this is a very winnable game. There's no way Bennett could explain two losses in a row to that teacher's college up north to the big cigars that fund pony land!!! I have also had the thought that TD probably knows more about Justin Willis than any oppossing QB that NT will face this year, having twice prepared for him @ SLC. This has to be an advantage.

I'm gonna go on record now and say that Bennett has to take them bowling this season or he's gone...because they will lose to NT.

  6. Plumm,

You know I love and respect you for your fire for this university and I even read about 70% of your posts (by the way my sergeant says if I continue to do this I need to start burning vacation or sick time because the extended absences aren't free...yeah, it takes that long to read them). I'm just a little, no make that a lot, worn out by the repetitive and counterproductive sermons that get neither you nor any of us anywhere even if you type them in color. So, here's what I suggest and I'll throw in a pledge of my own. From now on if you will start all of your filibusters with the phrase "I'm so tired of x problem/administrator/coach/gmg poster that I am gonna donate x number of dollars to fix the problem and the check is imminently forthcoming" then I promise to read 100% of your posts and will even lend them some credence. Deal?

  7. If you added up all the numbers of the OU graduation dates of the people on that thread your sum total would be zero. Fitting since they call them zero U. Maybe that's actually why they call them zero U, ya think?

  8. I've said it before and I'll say it again...some of you live in lala land. Perhaps I missed that golden age of NT football where we were selling out Fouts and consistently playing for conference titles and top 25 rankings (You know, those things we slam Dickey for not bringing about in his tenure). I forgot how very far we must have fallen to have to settle for the "mediocrity" of 4 straight conference titles, 4 bowls and more local and national press than we have EVER HAD. And before anyone spares us to death further with how "satisfied" we must all be to recognize what Dickey accomplished look at it this way. This argument is like looking at a guy who never had a girlfriend, gets a date with a 7, loses her and then says how he recognizes the accomplishment of bedding some girl, ANY GIRL...only to have his friends say "oh well, if that's what you want to settle for" not taking into account that while he was shooting for Anna Kournikova all along was happy to bang Kelly Clarkson along the way. None of us are "happy" or "satisfied" with winning the belt but how backasswards is it to not recognize the baby steps?

  9. And the hits keep comin'

The fact is that arkansas is probably one of the weaker ooc games we have had in awhile.
    And another

Georgia is a top level SEC team, but I think Troy can hang with them. I don't know if we can beat them, but we can keep it close.

    And one more

I think we will play Florida closer than the other teams. They will not be the same team they were last year. That and we seemed to handle LSU pretty well when they were coming of a national championship title year.

By their logic we should easily hang with Arkansas, blow out SMU and Navy and run the belt sans the "clash of titans" with Troy. I mean, we only lost to the mighty Troy Trojans last year 14-6 last year IN THEIR HOUSE with a coach who had given up. I'm feelin better and better about our season by the day.

  10. Tell me what is wrong with this sentence:

Interesting quote from Prosper (Texas) TE Taylor Thompson (6-6, 230), who already has more than 15 offers, including from some top programs (SMU, Oklahoma State, Nebraska, Wake Forest, Utah, UCLA, South Carolina, Purdue, Louisville, Virginia, etc.)

If you couldn't spot it, it's the fact that they refer to SMU as being among "top programs."

  11. Interesting post by galojay on the Belt board.

The newest data from the Council for Aid to Education is out for 2006. Just thought it would be interesting to see how support for each school differs. Some of these schools are really missing the boat on alumni support. That is going to be crucial for any school to succeed. Note, these numbers are voluntarily offered by each school. Three of our members chose not to report. Also, as everyone knows, Denver is private. Comparing Private schools to Public schools is apples to oranges. I listed them in ranking order.

    Total Support FY06 (million)

    Denver 34.4

    UNT 18.6

    FAU 17.6

    WKU 14.5

I always did feel better endowed than the guys from MUTS.

  12. If you put the 2002 team that got Patrick Cobbs a national rushing title, or the 03 team that got J.T. the same, they would have had success last year, but I doubt either churns out 2000 yards.

Neither did churn out 2000 yards when they won the rushing titles. Jamario set the single season record with just over 1,800.

Of course with 2002's defense we wouldn't have needed to lead the nation in rushing to win the last few years. That defense with a minimal offense would have taken us to at least 6 or 7 wins.
