And that's not a bad move either.  The SunBelt is a pretty good conference.

Absolutely.  All the C-USA teams left behind in the recent realignment to the AAC were all trying to get into the Belt.  LaTech fans were very upset their past shunning of ULM and LaLa kept them from an invite.  And I guarantee that WKU and MUTS would love to get back in it.  C-USA is probably the worst football conference at the present, while the Belt isn't all that far behind the AAC and MWC.

No brainer trade, in hindsight anyway.

Hindsight for sure.  If you would have asked me about this trade at the end of last season, I would have told you, "No way!"  Even now, I may be a little guilty of making lemonade out of a lemon.  But there is no doubt that Rauschenberg's arrival on campus has been a big boost.

In spring, the kicking game was a major concern before he arrived.  At the same time, Jake was the leading receiver at Baylor's spring game.

But without Rauschenberg, we probably lose the game to LaTech.

  3. I was just watching today's press conference, and there was a lot of praise for our new kicker Noah Rauschenberg (Brett must be working up an article on him, thus all the questions about him).  It just got me to thinking how we got him from Baylor and Jake Roberts went to Baylor, so it worked out almost like an NFL-style trade.  Normally kickers aren't that high priority, but Coach Morris was talking about how valuable it is to have a kicker you can have confidence in from 55 yards.  And I'm not sure how big of a role Jake Roberts would be playing in our new offense anyway.  So what say you--good trade?

Maybe, just maybe, there’s a lot more to it than just talent level. Perhaps he wasn’t working very hard in practice, maybe he hadn’t learned the playbook well enough, maybe he wasn’t being a good team player, etc. Truth is, I have no idea. But neither do you. I feel like Eric Morris has proven his ability to recognize and develop QB’s so it seems pretty clear something was off with CR early this year.

This is exactly what I think happened.  Morris had to show Rogers who was in charge and what it was going to take to play QB at UNT.  There was short term pain, but the long term benefit will Be worth it.

I don't think so.  When Coach Morris picked Earle to start, he specifically said, "Chandler didn't do anything wrong."  His very clear point was that Earle played so well during camp that he couldn't do anything but give him the starting nod.

  5. Fouts parking has been paid parking for as long as Apogee has been open.

Coliseum parking was free last I remember, but that's been a long time.  That would probably be the closest, and you'd have to get there fairly early to get a spot.  Otherwise, drive east from there and see what you can find.

I am saying that being stupid and expecting you can be different from every program in America and ONLY recruit in your home market is idiotic and will lead to failure every single time.

Boy, you sure tore that straw man to pieces.  During the 30 years I have been following the program, North Texas has never recruited only in its home market.  But starting near home is a good place to start for most programs.

Hmm, can’t seem to find his A&M stats where he finished after “starting his career” at North Texas. Good player but the family seemed to feel they were above us. Plus the whole 420 deal.

He was never on the team at A&M.  AFAIK, he didn't play organized football again after he left NT.

  8. I really don't know how you could give him better than a D+ at this point.  Coming into this season, we were favored in the majority of games, and we were barely underdogs against Cal.  QB play is very encouraging, as with some other units, but overall we have very clearly underperformed.  At this point, most of us are saying "Hit 4" for the season, which is a far cry from where we were one month ago.  I firmly believe the previous staff would have given us significantly better overall results to this point.

There is time to turn things around this season, and plenty of time to turn things around for his coaching tenure here.  But right now, I'll give him a D+ and feel generous doing so.
