I believe that 1-AA is allowed at 50 or 60 scholarships and Div II is allowed abt 30. So......recruiting is very hard. They pick up 1-A players that are missed. Then......coach the heck out of them.

Heard nothing but good things about Berry in Monroe. Good luck to his finding the right job.

You could form a search commitee with U VPs and a couple of big donars. It has been done before with some success.

Didn't say it couldn't work, but it usually takes a longer time and often never works. At UNT .......needs a miracle worker. No money. No fans. AD with no experience and must be hard to work with. Not a good climate for the New Guy on the Block. Someone who has been through the test of fire would work better. Someone with a bundle of energy and a bright smile and lots of PR. Saban would not work, nor Spurrier. LOL! Not to say that Jimbo Fisher would not be a hit, as he brings instant respect. Or Stacy Searles of LSU/Auburn. Don't know if Granville would have the energy. Jay Thomas at Nicholls would be a great choice. Even tho Mumme has not had succes at NMSU.....I think he would be a good fit. (NMSU is the hardest job....ever. Been there tried that.) Here's hoping that UNT will find the right guy!

Remember.............it depends on support of the AD. RV has little experience or none other than UNT. It depends on the material that the former coach has recruited. Lots of factors. Can he recruit? Is there money to do so? Can he raise funds? Can he inspire a fan base. On and On....... The personality of the coach is a big thing. Can he conduct an interview.....a TV show. So many duties that an assistant never dreamed he must do. Walk a mile in a HC's shoes. Quite a job! Can you trust RV with the selection?????????

Don't make the mistake that Bama made. They are having to raise up their coach. It is always better to bring up a head coach from a smaller school or lower division. There are many out there. Find someone who was able to turn a losing program around and gain crowd support. I recommend someone who wears boots and can be a Texan. Ole Miss tried to raise up a Cajun and it is taking a while. He will NEVER fit the mold. ULM made the mistake of hiring someone that is 1-A experienced and he does not fit the La mode. Nice guy, but will never inspire the home folks. RV has ties to USM and should have contact with some good 1-AA coaches who finished there. LSU fans are struggling with their Michigan coach. Again, nice guy, but does not fit the program. Never will ...........unless he takes a speech class and learns to say football, instead of futbahl.
