Any idea what the painted numbers are in the outfield are for?
The numbers of the three seniors.

I don't think that's the UNT albino squirrel.
Mayor Hudspeth let us know that that particular firehouse is known as "The Nut House."
I think that's their own personal logo for their firehouse.

It was a great turnout. I'm guessing 500-600. Anyway....the area that it was in....was jam packed.
Abou and Tylor were both there. Tylor, Kai, Rubin and Aaron all spoke. There was no surprise "I'm staying" comment from Tylor....but he and Abou both got nice rounds of applause.
The women's golf team was there...and they're awesome. So is Coach Akers.
And one final thing............WAIT TIL YOU GET A LOAD OF THE MEAN GREEN FIRE TRUCK. Coolest thing I've seen in years. Someone will post photos I'm sure.

Was just told that Buggs III will commit......but he wants to make a commitment video. FWIW. And we had at least one visitor this weekend that I know of....but don't know a name.

I am still unclear on how Charlotte playing one less game (due to a cancellation of a game against MTSU) will come into play if we end up with the same number of wins or losses.
I'm sure they'll go by winning percentage in conference.

Nice sweep....Ashley pitches a 9 inning shutout........
She won two games down there....Wagoner won one.
And the star of the position players: Cierra Simon. Key hits....and a huge defensive play to end game 1
And suddenly at 14-7.....our gals our only one game out of first (behind UAB)....with a 3-game conference series, at home......next weekend. Go Mean Green!

Anything going on regarding basketball portal activity/JUCOs coming to join the defending NIT champions?
You left out a key group: High school kids. Of the 7 guys we have left: 6 came to us from high school (Rubin, A Scott, Matty Stone, Chrisdon Morgan, Christian Moore, and incoming freshman Alex Cotton). Moulaye came here via the portal.
I wonder if coaches are getting too much transfer portal tunnel vision. Brandon Goble, (Juco Advocate and co-owner of Verbal Commits) thinks so. Said he knows of a good kid at Hutchison CC in Kansas...averaged 17 ppg....having a tough time getting interest. Whereas, schools are signing portal guys averaging single digit points....who have character issues. (not talking about us....in that regard). Anyway....seems to me the portal guys this year....all have their hands out wanting a cash deal. All the more reason to go after juco and high school kids who just want a shot at Div. 1 basketball.

The Head Coach/former Associate Head Coach (Ross Hodge) has been on the job for the past 5-6 years. The Director of Scouting has been in the role for 2 years. The new women's coach was hired about the same time and has staff in place and 3 signed recruits. Albeit bringing everyone but the cheerleaders with him.
While we're sleeping.....UAB has signed Yaxel Landeborg . He's the 9th ranked juco player in the nation. They already had signed Chris Coleman (#6) and Alejandro Vasquez (#2).....so they have signed 3 of the top 10 jucos in the nation.
Looks to me like we've whiffed on the three portal guys (Wells for sure, Knox and Buggs III sure haven't committed and were here for visits days ago).
I hope things are going better than they look like they are.

Missouri State has a guy in the portal....forward Jonathan Mogbo. Decent player. Not sure if we're interested. And I don't think he's signed anywhere.
Anyway....these are great hires by Boss.
Edit: never mind on Mogbo....going to USF

Uhhh.. this dude really just go to McNeese?
New McNeese coach Will Wade....got fired from LSU for recruiting violations---back when paying players was illegal.
Now with the NIL....he can do whatever he wants at McNeese. Have been told that some players have gotten $80,000 offers.

Agreed. You can have good players on a bad team. Eric Germany landed at Wichita State. Buggs and he were their best players.

A current example of giving a great D-FW player a game back home:
One of the top Metroplex players the last few years.....Finley Bizjack of Byron Nelson High (about 14 miles from UNT).
He lead D-FW in scoring this past year....about 30 ppg a game. We recruited him.
He signed with Butler.
Would Butler give us a home and home? Not sure coaches do this kind of thinking when it comes to scheduling any more. But they should.

Bracey Wright. he was an absolute baller...we did home and home with Indiana, 02-03 in Bloomington; 03-04 in Denton...Wright dropped 21 at home and an unguardable 39 in the Pit. I have a memory of him banking in a three...just couldn't miss...we only lost 79-70, though...it was a solid accounting for where JJ was moving the program.
IU box score says 6100 in attendance in Denton.Thank you. Couldn't remember his name....

Used to.....some teams would try to give their great players.....a game at "home."
Pretty sure that's how JJ got Indiana here. As I recall.....they had a great player from Lewisville.
And I believe we got a home game with Arizona State that way.
Anyway....that's one way to get games here. And there are loads of good D-FW players spread out all over the country.

16 errors by Cierra Simon.....10 more than anyone else on the team. And last year....she was so good at short. She's reminding me of Abou in basketball.

If your team is ahead, you will like it, but if they are behind, it will probably make comebacks a little harder
It'll be similar to the pros....except one big difference: Pros have the two-minute warning.

I have been preaching this for some time, UTSA will always have a big flaw that they will not ever overcome which is they are a satellite campus for the flagship of UT in Austin. Any major donors who might be interested in supporting UTSA (very few) will always be encouraged to put their resources with the flagship. Also, their contract with Traylor was way beyond what it should have been and now all of their other sports are struggling and cannot make any changes because they have no money. Their facilities are a dump and they have to practice at high schools when the weather is inclimate or if the Alamodome is booked. They have had some incredible luck and won some very close games primarily due to having QB Frank Harris (recruited by Wilson not Traylor btw) who seems to have had 10 years of eligibility.
Rice, always seems to get a pass. But for the money they have.....they don't seem to put much into facilities either. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong on this....
