WHAT? I'm talking about his ALL WHITE outfit with the smallest embroidery I've ever seen. You have to squint to be able to read "mean green". He's getting well paid to clearly show who he is representing.....and it looks like he's representing just about anyone but North Texas.
I just watched a few minutes of Coach Hodge speaking to the group and my two biggest takeaways were,
1. Were it not for the battle flag pin on his left lapel, (like Coach M,) you wouldn't have a clue as to what school had just hired him. Not one item of clothing was green.
2. Coach Hodge had to encourage/coax the fans/alumni there to stand up and applaud the NIT champions who were there in the room.
MY GOD! That was embarrassing.
I think the fact that event was combined with the press conferences....made the crowd less raucous....than if the celebration had been separate. But who knows?
I will say this....your sudden interest in basketball thrills me. I hope you will consider buying season tickets next year. The lower part of Section 121.....is a great place to sit. Right behind our bench. Great fans down there.

I did notice two players fairly high up on the list..........from Midland. I know it's been a while....but he might still have connections there.

Coach Hodge has so many connections in the juco basketball world.......won't surprise me if some of our recruits come from there.

Not apples to apples if FAU is #5 and we are #31, but played them twice within 4 points each game. Either they are too high or we are too low. Head to head results beats metrics!
The good news to that.....is that the AAC will likely have a top 20...maybe top 15....or top 10.....team at the start of the season in basketball. (if they aren't hammered by the portal). So I'm glad for FAU's ranking. And the league will probably also have a team ranked in football (Tulane) at the start of the season. When have we ever had that?????

I can't remember if we received any votes two years ago, but if we did, it was probably just a handful or less.

About 11 minutes long. I love what Coach has to say. I thought some of the questions were lame (irrelevant to us)....but Coach Hodge was great.

Trying to be positive.....I'll say this:
Two years ago....none of us knew who Tylor Perry was.
A year ago....we didn't know Kai Huntsberry or Moulaye Sissoko.
So if we can keep our core intact (Rubo, Moulaye, A Scott, Matty, Moore)...along with Alex Cotton......and add some good pieces to it.....we'll be all right. Hope so anyway.

I've often said....Tylor may not be our greatest player ever.....but I think he is our most beloved. Anyway, good luck to TP.....
And even though I bet this guy ends up at Wichita State....I sure would love to have him here: (he played at Dallas Jesuit)

This isn't a parade worthy event. It's not. A while back someone posted a hypothetical topic on which would be better, a NIT Championship or a Sweet 16 run and I'm pretty sure avsweet 16 run was the clear favorite. Would we also have a parade for that? Also, no one would show up which would be cringe worthy and embarrassing. Now, if you wanted to cut the arena in half and have the team address only that side like it looked like Witchita St did, then maybe it wouldn't look so bad and I'd be on board. But what you don't want as an exclamation mark on a successful season is another poorly attended event reminding the players that they have a relatively small level of fan support.
My honest opinion is they kicked the tires on a bigger event and something swayed them from doing it.
Of course you cut the arena in half. Which is exactly what they did....when we had an event AT NIGHT, IN THE SUPER PIT.......celebrating the NCAA Tourney win over Purdue. It was in March/April 2021.

1) Our HC is no longer here, as well as all the assistants (Besides Ross) and most of the players have excited stage left. The NIT is a huge accomplishment. But it is not parade worthy. Also the athletic department has enough trouble getting people to arrive to the actual games. How many would show up for a parade? When you have literally only one staff member remaining. And maybe only a handful of players that would even show up.
2) Reason to have it all one day and not have 2 pressers and a "celebration". Because we have two brand new coaches that need to assembly complete staff as well as get on the road recruiting. Having the pressors combined helps allow the coaches to do that ASAP as well as allow media and fans one trip to Denton. Announcing HC of basketball at lunch on a wednesday is no different that announcing HC of football or signing day presser at lunch on a Wednesday.
3) There will be another celebration. It maybe a ring celebration or something during football season. But I think we can all agree that it is more urgent to assemble staff and hit road recruiting.
You say that most the players are gone. What school ends in early April now? And that the only coach who is still here....is Hodge. So who exactly will be there for the "celebration" at 1 pm on Wednesday? And btw....you're getting all your BS from the Ath. Dept. The same Ath. Dept. that did so little to promote things.....that we averaged 3700 fans this year....for a 31 win team. So by all means....go along with everything the Ath. Dept. tells you.

It really does seem like a poor decision. I was thinking a party by McConnell Tower somewhere in the late afternoon/early evening, or yes at the Super Pit at night.
Not a reception after a press conference
Not sure if you saw Twitter footage....but they had a watching party at Eastside Bar in Denton. Fans were outside sitting at picnic tables.... watching it on a Big screen. (Folks who were there, can correct me if I'm wrong on this). But it was a raucous crowd. (Kind of like you'll see when CBS will show a crowd somewhere in SD tonight...pulling for the Aztecs). Anyway....the twitter poster said that there were 500 people there. And that's a local biz that supports NT Athletics. So even if they had the event there....at night.....it would be better than what they're doing.

The celebration should be its' own separate event. At night....at The Super Pit. They're really limiting the crowd doing it this way.

When asked about the Tech rumors.......
"I just know that there are a lot of people recruiting our guys, too. It doesn't mean they are leaving. We have a special thing going here. I'm thankful to be a part of it."

One thing I wish they would do. I heard someone (Packer? Vitale?) mention this years ago. NO team should be in the tournament....if they didn't finish at least .500 in league play. That would take out WVa (7-11 in the Big XII) and Arkansas and Miss. State (both 8-10 in the SEC). That would open up three spots for deserving teams.

Additional trivia.... did anyone know Memphis won a men's basketball game at the SuperPit two years ago?
They beat Boise 59-56 in the quarterfinals of the 2021 NIT here.
Both the SuperPit and Comerica Center in Frisco hosted the whole NIT tournament for 16 teams.
It was the first time the semifinals and finals were played away from NYC.

I went to the Memphis-Dayton game in Round 1. And then watched some of the other games that were there....on TV. I think that's when I first noticed how great our court looks on TV. We have one of the best looking courts in the country. That new design they came up with............greatness.

A little trivia....the last time The Super Pit hosted NCAA Tournament games.....Alcorn State was one of the 6 teams sent here. The others were: Bradley, Texas A & M, South Alabama......and LSU and North Carolina (who both got byes in the first round).

The little that I've seen him play, he is a dynamic player all around... He always seems to make something happen for himself or another player in the very limited minutes he gets... I hope he stays too... But didn't we already sign another highly regarded point guard out of high school?
That guy (Jaylen Washington) is a commit. He's class of 2024.
