  1. I too have been impressed with the crowd of the last 2 home games. I still don't know what has changed to get that many people out. Was there a promotion on campus for Saturday's game as well as Thursday's ?

Someone mentioned that hot dogs were $1 on Thurdays night. I know that wasn't the case Sat. If we have to sell dogs for a buck to get folks in the gym, then we need to do it.

  2. I had a meeting last night. Why someone schedules a banquet ON CAMPUS and NEXT DOOR to the Super Pit on the SAME NIGHT as a ball game is beyond me.

Anyway, I got ther after halftime. We had 8 threes, the place was fuller than at anytime this year, dancers, band, cheerleaders, and we had a 20 point lead.

What was the difference ? I noticed the seats at each end of the gym were used and not the "50 yard line" seats. I guess this was students and non season ticket holders, but what made all these poeple come out last night ?

Whatever the formula, we need to bottle it and take it out again Saturday night.

Oh, and the "NORTH"....."TEXAS" chants were the best I've heard at the Super Pit.

  3. Vote early-vote often.

The Mean Joe ad is in second place right now (Thurs. 4:30p)

By the way, some time ago, I asked if there was a way to retouch the original ad to show Mean Joe in a green and white NT jersey. So I'll ask again. Is there ?

  4. I wish I had thought of this.

Look in your checkbook and check out the stubs of checks you've written.

You'll see things like rent, food, car payments, utility bills, gas bills, if you're a parent, you'll find tuition, clothes, etc.

    You get the picture ?

Now, look and see how much you paid to North Texas to support the Athletic Dept. Whatever amount you see there, is an indication as to how important Mean Green Athletics is to you.

Now, put that in order to the other things that are important. With even the most ardent Mean Green fan, the point where support of NT Athletics hits the radar will be well down the list. But if support for NT Athletics is not on the list, well, I'd like to at least have the Mean Green make the list.

There's lots of ways to support Mean Green Athletics.

Season tickets is my favorite. If you buy tix, you'll follow your money and go to the games. And if something comes up, give your tickets to your next door neighbor. In any event, buy season tickets.

Join the Mean Green Club. This is where the real fans come out. This is a gift to Athletics. You don't expect anything back from a gift. It's a gift. Oh sure, NT will send you a thank you trinket, but the gift to athletics is just that. Don't look for anything in return.

And don't wait until things are the way yu'd like them to be.

    We can't wait that long.

Treat NT Athletics like you would your own kids. You don't always like what they do, but you still love them and you still support them.

  5. I was driving to a meeting Wednesday at 6:30AM listening to the oldie station. They had a contest with the question, "Where did Joe Greene play college football ?"

The lady didn't know. The DJ said he played at an area college.

    She still didn't know.

The DJ said he played at a North Texas university.

The lady guessed, "Did he play at UNT...when they HAD a football team ?"

Someone at the marketing department needs to get busy.

  6. I am opposed to retiring numbers. We (and any other team for that matter) should expect to have great players. What would happen if we got an opportunity to sign a really great running back, but he wanted #28 (Abner Haynes). That might be far fetched, but I'd hate to lose a top recruit to Baylor or Tulsa just because we couldn't hook him up with his favorite number.

  7. Years ago, the folks at Weaver Wisdom Paint and Body Shop did a lot of work on the Model A (?) and the spirit bell. They were always at the games (FB and BB). Mr. Wisdom died not long ago, but Larry is still there at the body shop.

  8. Chuch is a great guy. He was not only the recruiter during Corkey's days, he was the special teams coach. He's great fun to talk with and has wonderful NT stories. Chuck would make the coach's show so much fun, we'd probably have to sell tickets.

When Matt Simon left, I pushed him as hard as I was able to get the head job. You see what influence I have.

He was Brad Kassell's position coach (not bad) and was let go without much explaination. He told me that DD simply said, "we're going to go in a different direction."

After the loss to Monroe in '01, while I was shopping for a rope and a low hanging tree, I asked if he would be interested in the head job if in fact DD was given the axe. He was non-committal.

Chuch was working for a "astro-turf" company when I last spoke to him.

I'd love to see him get the head job here. The sooner the better.
