Dang, man… Some of you can literally find the worst in everything this staff does. I honestly have no idea why some of you even follow this team, much less take time to post here. The thing with recruiting is you just never know anything until they put on the team gear and trot on the field.
Once at a point in time in a galaxy far,far away from North Texas football fans, the DMN looked at the college careers of the top dozen or so highly ranked high school players from the Metroplex. It was surprising to see the number of 4 star players who flamed out in college. I am not saying that I wouldn't like having a few on campus, but sometimes ranking can be misleading . If we had gotten just a little more play out of our defense this year against Navy and Memphis we would have finished 7 & 5 and gone to some piss ant bowl that no one ever heard of , and probably lost. Morris knows the holes that need to be filled so I trust the process. Merry Christmas to all you Mean Green grinches , and have a happy new year.

The DMN has great article today on number of athletes playing Olympic sports recruited from local high schools getting NIL money. This bodes major problems for G5/ Mid Major programs and all their other sports.

This was a good recruiting day for North Texas. We may not have pulled in the top recruiting class in the AAC, but we certainly improved the talent on our roster today. According to 247Sports, we finished the day with the 6th best AAC class (in the top half of the conference). That is better than every recruiting class in the Sun Belt & C-USA today. We also finished with a better class than all but 1 MAC program and all but 3 MWC programs. I hate that we lost some really good talent in recent weeks, but this haul seems like a big step towards rebuilding our plundered offense. But, I think defense remains a big question mark until we actually see improvements on the field next season.
We are now alone in 5th place , just about 5 points behind Memphis. Tulsa is #2, and sighed 10 of top 100 in DFW

Remember that UNT has played in 3 bowl games despite having a losing record.

The one I saw earlier today had us last with 10 commitments and SMU first. Its a moving target thru tomorrow.
They have moved SMU out of AAC, have Charlotte 1st, UNT,UTSA,UAB tied for 5th, Rice last. Navy doesn't report.

Guys, 247 has us ranked last in the AAC regarding transfers coming in. Hopefully this will change.

On another note, I googled "The top 10 college football trick plays" and our punt return against Arkansas is listed as #3.

Well, we did give both Navy and Memphis a gift.

I have been to Liberty Bowl. Think Cotton Bowl at Fairgrounds.

We go from vs.
SMU, Rice, South Florida, and Charlotte and @ UTSA, UAB, FAU, and ECU to:vs. Army, ECU, Tulane, and Tulsa and @ FAU, Memphis, Temple, and UTSA.
Exchanging Rice, Charlotte, and UAB for Tulane, Memphis, and Tulsa gives us another tougher schedule. I was really looking forward to playing the "cupcakier" teams to give us an easier route to six wins.
Glad we keep the UTSA road trip. Memphis is on the table now, too.
Maybe we are one of the "cupcakier " teams in the conference.

He failed to leave a legacy here. If he had stayed, won a conference or a bowl game then he would be a program legend.
We will see what happens to him at Cal.Well he moved to the ACC and will be appropriately compensated. He did a great job for North Texas and I hope he continues his success at Cal.

It's not a static number as it changes frequently. I still don't know of a program with more players in the transfer portal than UNT. Yea, we are #1.

What?! Too good for Burger Lake?
I grew up in Ft. Worth from mid 50's till I went to NTSU in 1961. Burger's Lake and the "polio" pool in Forest Park were the only places those of us with limited means could swim. I have good memories of both.

It’s worth noting that having knowledge of media rights and having great relationships and negotiating skills with media outlets is an essential part of this job.
All of this revolves around money now, and media deals are the biggest source of income and exposure for conferences. This is where Aresco did pretty well and where Judy fell very short.
We need someone who will continue negotiating good media deals with high dollars and great exposure.
Guys, the handwriting is on the wall for G5 and 1AA programs as regards media deals. With the NIL making it more attractive for G5 players to enter the transfer portal, the exceptional players they have will migrate to P5 programs. In addition the monied programs will break away and create a new division and take most of the media money with them. The rest of us, and there will be a bunch as not all programs who now compete at the P5 level will be able to afford the new table stakes, will be fighting over the table scraps that are left. Picture Oklahoma State playing on Wednesday nights instead of Akron. Just an old mans opinion, and I hope I am dead wrong. In addition, until the smoke settles it is hard for UNT to justify spending $20million on upgrading current athletic facilities .

Don't forget that there is a spring transfer portal as well.

I understand your point, but this stance is exactly what will be the death of programs like North Texas. The programs, boosters, fans that truly embrace the idea of NIL will leap frog programs that don't. For a case in point, look at how SMEWW has gone all in on NIL and leap frogged the competition and even bought their way in to the ACC. We can complain about the way things are all we want, but it won't change anything.
If we don't support the new world order then blood will be on our hands when UNT gets left behind, but I am sure we will conveniently forget about that part when the time comes.
It may be the death of some if not most G5 programs but there is something that can be done about it . Let the 4 power conferences break away. They get the vast majority of the best players anyway. Then the G5 programs set a minimum NIL amount that its "members" must meet in order to stay at the G5 level. The schools that either can't or won't meet the minimum will be reclassified as 1AA programs. This will cause some conference realignment and probably the creation of a few new 1AA conferences but if conferences like the AAC are not proactive schools like North Texas are hosed.

UNT has 23 players in the transfer portal. Other programs with new coaches coming in are Houston ,no entries, Tulane, 1 entry, and Texas A&M, 8 entries. Granted this may change but from what I can tell 23 players is a really big number.

I seriously doubt all players in the portal are just looking for $$. I bet the vast majority just want more playing time or a higher level program, say FCS to FBS, or just closer to home. It's not always about the bucks.
I wish you were right, but for the better players the portal is a way to get paid for playing, and I cant blame them.

I wish that our head coach or A.D. would address this unprecedented loss of players. It's gotten where the old joke of the last one leaving turn off the light applies.

gonna be funny when north texas wins 9 games next year, including the bowl
YTD we have 23 players in the portal which is twice as many as any other program that I am aware of. This seems more like leaving a sinking ship rather then just testing the waters.

AAC Bowls
in Mean Green Football

Moving up in conferences can be difficult. Houston, Cincy, UCF, and BYU all struggled. Also, except for UTSA, the newbies in the AAC did as well.
