  1. I still remember watching us on TV, I think against La Tech, when their run game was just ripping us a new one, the announcer saying, "and North Texas stays in a 3-4 scheme", as though he just couldn't figure out what our defensive philosophy was.  Not that any of us did.

They always seem to keep one or two in their back pocket.  The particulars on how this is occurring here are unknown at this time.

Thanks, Harry.  I was just trying to figure out how it was that one member posted that there was "only one left", and Vito quoted Littrell as mentioning "scholarships" still available (to be used before school starts next fall).  The whole NCAA rules thing has a ton of moving parts.

Mac did us no favors, I am hearing there were spots given up under Mac that didn't count until this signing class.  So the fault of the low number is not Littrell's.  Now we can focus on getting more production out of the guys we have.  And quite frankly, we need to review this entire roster and make sure everyone is contributing and working hard.  Too many guys dress out but don't produce on this roster right now.  That has to change.

Harry, I'm just trying to reconcile this with what I read from Vito; if you scroll all the way to the bottom, under "briefly", Vito quotes Littrell as mentioning the possibility of signing additional players before fall with "leftover scholarships":

Hey, just wondering.  That was written early this morning, so probably came from the NSD event.

Do you pay taxes here?  So my tax money paid for you (who came here illegally) to get an education.  Yet, you want to come on here and down talk my university? Stop.

I really don't know what this fellow is up to, but I have a hard time thinking it matters now.  I suggest we quit trying to figure it out.  I appreciate something one of my former supervisors told me, "Dwayne, quit trying to make sense out of things that don't".

So I guess the Austin-American Statesman is justified in leaving us out.  O.K.  And I suppose its O.K. that smut is covered in both papers?

Come to think of it, and this causes me heartburn to say it, nutsak and texas state, san marcos should have been mentioned in the Dallas paper too.

Not unless they're playing us.  At least as far as the printed newspaper goes, all news is still local.

Supposedly the kid was at work all day with his sister at a fast food restaurant and did not have fax machine access.

This guy is going to be at the right place.  I was actually wondering when reading all the expressions of anxiety being posted, "hey, do any of the people posting these things ever have a bunch of things requiring their attention at the same time, and things just not going right?"

I could definitely understand both what he was saying and where he was coming from. It is difficult to pick up on sarcasm and humor when you're just reading words on a screen.

Doesnt change the fact that those first few sentences were brutal, grammatically speaking

Yes, people need to get back to understanding the importance of writing a good sentence.  That said, some who have posted here recently have been better grammatically, but worse in making themselves understood.  I'm not so great a communicator, but keep trying to improve.

Look, we have a long ways to go, McCarney, WTF? Didn't these guys have recruits on a string from the summer and fall. What? Did the coaches just stop recruiting? We have zip recruits from the DMN area top 100, this is unacceptable! Thank Rick V for putting us in this hole. Let's hope Littrell can dig us out...

According to this (from the DMN), we have one, Nic Smith.  Jeesh, people, can't we at least be accurate?

Grammar. Do they teach it in San Antonio?

But for real, everyone here would love for Tyrone to end up at UNT. The kid can play.

I could understand what he was saying.  I do think we misunderstand the ability of others to come into a months long thread and figure out where it took a turn to the ironic and appreciate our subtle wit.  I think the recent GMG members are just here for the players, and those players really are what this time of year is about.

Agreed.  I like some of the kids in this group and the social media stuff alone moves him up in my book.  Every time I turn around I am seeing things I like out of this group.  I am actually seeing the new coaches and staff out and around Denton.  I don't understand a grade of less than a B.

Yep, I  may have been too generous with an A-, but I think they worked hard and got  players who can help us win.

Thanks Mark, and I had nothing against the young man, but never could understand why we had some of the guys we did playing quarterback.  It seems like there's a tendency to dismiss any efforts that others made, but darn, we had a guy, Brent Osborn, who could move the ball, but when he did got pulled out of the game.  I just think that maybe Mac was an unrecognized Dinosaur, and couldn't understand the Pteradactyl.

This has been my point all along for Coach Littrell. This roster is almost completely devoid of talented players. Maybe he can turn some of what is here into productive players, but his roster is full of offensive players built for an offense that is the polar opposite of his offense. His best QB of the future is seriously probably Dillman, nobody else on this roster. And the defense has no size or speed.

Its gonna take a long time to fix this. The class he just signed is ranked last by rivals for a reason. He just had to get what he could get for now, even if these guys end up just being practice guys. We are so far down in recruiting circles for HS talent that it's going to take this whole year just to get TX HS coaches to even know his name and what we are trying to do. If we are REALLY lucky, by 2017, we will see  some decent HS recruits make it to Denton, kids that have multiple FBS offers, not beating out FCS and D-2 schools like he just had to accept this time. The hole Mac left us in is probably twice the size that Dickey left Dodge, talent-wise and in recruiting circles. We just have to be patient and understand the pit he is trying to dig us out of. Littrell has his work cut out for him and he is gonna need all the help he can get.

Not to downplay your concerns, but I looked at the 247 site, and it has us ranked 114, at least ahead of Rice and Charlotte, and only crediting us with 17 recruits (no credit for English and Morris?).  Yeah, we were in a deep hole, but I'm just saying.  I guess the main problem I saw with Mac and his staff was basically indifference to the passing game.  Since McNulty and (apparently) Josh (sorry I can't even remember his last name) are gone, maybe we can get something started that resembles modern football.  I never expect to us get a turnover so close to their end zone as we did the first time we had the ball against SMU and run the ball up the middle 3 times.

And I'm really not sure if being unable to remember Josh's last name is a good or bad thing.

What about the kid from cedar hill last year, Bradley? Is he still on the team?

    http://meangreenblog.dentonrc.com/2016/01/daundrey-bradley-announces-he-is-staying-at-unt.html/

However, subsequent to that article, BillySee58 wrote something about him not being back on the roster yet.  I haven't checked the roster, but am not sure how well they keep that updated.

  14. 2 minutes ago, BillySee58 said:

Sure, but he's an upperclassmen. I just mean for this class, they likely wouldn't bring in three slot receivers and no outside receivers in the same class, so we can probably expect Bussey outside.

Couldnt remember which grade Johnson was in, so I looked on the roster and he's not on it anymore. I think he's still on the team, but just noticed that.

I sure hope so; other than the punter and the safeties, he was the only consistent bright spot in the second half of the season.  I don't remember him being used as a receiver though; just made a lot of great returns.  Hopefully, this is just incompetence on the part of whoever maintains the roster data.

unless you are a engineer there are not many jobs that pay anything in albuquerque.

I would not think students would assume that staying in New Mexico after college is a realistic option for most.  Even people I know who are New Mexico natives describe the hiring process as cronyism, or brother-in-law deals, whatever.  I will say that one of the most talented artists I have known was forced to become a professional artist after returning to New Mexico from Texas and discovering that it was  so unlikely to become hired with 2 college degrees and years of experience that the hard road to being self supporting as an artist was the easier path.
