As I said i think this is an underwhelming hire but I suppose I can see why they did it and also tells me this probably was about as good as UNT was ever gonna get. UNT fans will not be too excited as a whole so hes gonna have to really get out there and help build interest in what hes doing as well as recruit and build a staff.

I’d be real surprised if keeler put his hat in the ring. He’s content where he is, probably has invested wisely and other jobs don’t give the quality of life he desires
Hey if thats the case then more power to him. Coaches rarely stay loyal to a smallee school

I like Keeler a lot and would love to have someone who has proven they can win, like him, but I’m sure UNT will look at the age and say no. In fact, I suspect that played into why Texas State passed on him as I cant think of any other legitimate reason to not hire him

Huge Mike Leach fan and I’ve always seen him as the best HC option for UNT because of how out there he’s always been and how much fun and interest he’d bring to the program. Regardless of any of that, i hope he pulls through and makes a full recovery. Hes a great and interesting guy who hopefully we can all keep enjoying on Saturdays and in press conferences

All depends on who we hire

Wish they were reporting the HC right now. AD i was less worried about

I mean i like him and i thought them firing him was a pretty poor decision…although they did get Fickell so maybe not? But as much as i do like him, im not sure how he’d do at UNT. He coached in Texas 1991-1992 as a position coach for something called the San Antonio Riders and otherwise has no experience down here and definitely has no major recruiting experience here. And as others have said, he doesn’t really have any G5 experience but thats pretty minor to me honestly. A guy from Wisconsin won’t exactly fit in down here and I know for a fact that some High School HCs won’t like it lol

1. Need to make the football program respectable. Getting blown out by non conference FBS teams across the board is unacceptable
2. Need to improve marketing and merchandise. The current fan gear is complete garbage
3. Add baseball. I have this at 3 simply because im not even confident it’ll ever actually happen but id love for it to

I watch UNT and Texas A&M religiously and also keep up with Eastern Michigan and Fresno State. But i do my best to watch as many games as possible from NAIA, D3, D2, FCS and FBS. Also watch High School football. Don’t care about the NFL nearly as much anymore. But football is football and i want to see as much as possible so if its on there is a good chance ill watch. Im obsessed

My mother knows GJ, his father and Todd Graham(his former boss at Hawaii) as she is originally from Mesquite like they are. She says the family and him wanted to be back up here but didn’t think UNT would be open plus he liked that he could completely build Texas State up the way he wants with a complete rebuild and the low expectations were nice as he will get more time.

OK. So you don't "believe" this has happened, but you would like for this to happen.
Because, yeah, it makes absolutely zero sense for Graham Harrell to leave a P5 OC job for a lateral move to a G5 for a lot less money.
That’s exactly what i was trying to figure out. Thought he was saying this was forsure happening

Why do you think this?

I suppose so. Lifer and I possibly read too much into your decision to say "he is a top option."
All goodIts my bad. Honestly just ready for this search to be over

I mean can you blame him? And not every coach to get fired has nice things to say when they leave.
Reasons for not saying anything:
1. Hes pissed. Was told he needed to win 8 games but im sure making the Conference Championship game made him think he was pretty safe as that wasn’t necessarily expected. And so he was fired which would make many angry
2. He’s embarrassed. Wouldn’t you be? People are tearing you up left and right which sucks but also everyone knows he was fired.
3. Because Littrell isnt a man of many words and never has been. Littrell is not someone who ever really said much and i think thats just how he is.

I think it is super important when reading/listening to these reports to be aware of whether they are speaking about their ideal HC, which is what this podcast is doing, vs. what they think they are hearing....insight into what our admins might do.
This episode on Republic of Texas football makes zero claims about who they think it will be. They speak strictly about who they think would be a good fit.
@UNTLifer responded, because your above post makes it sound like they had inside information.Lol never claimed that they have inside info nor was that my intention. Just saying its a name im hearing more often than most which is surprising to me and the amount ive times ive seen him listed makes me think he must be getting some kind of interest from UNT. His connection to UNT and the area makes me think that there is atleast some mutual interest

What media?
Listen to podcasts or read stories from different outlets, like DCTF for example, and you’ll hear his name brought up as a top option

He’s probably next to take over at Texas A&M or Texas. I see those being the two jobs he’d really be after and cant see him wanting to leave Texas

This would be a disaster hire.
He’s fools gold. He’s the equivalent of that one guy on every basketball staff who is hired for his recruiting connections alone, and who switches jobs every other year to stay one step ahead of the law.
Although there is no law anymore…
You arent wrong i feel. Just seems to be the most popular option im seeing

He went to UNT(atleast thats what his wiki states) and the more i hear it sounds like he will probably be the new HC. Im not a huge fan of it but i would bet a lot on it right now with how much the media keeps talking about how its sounds like a dream job for him
