I haven't seen any names being thrown around that are slam dunks.  For every "favorite" being labeled in a thread, a small army of people show up to tell us why he won't work.  every. single. time.

Is this one of the worst offseasons for hiring a coach in 10 years?

Also, I see a ton of current/former HCs.  I wish there were more assistant/coordinator names being submitted.

Id say it’s definitely not a great one to hire a HC. Last year I wanted UNT to get in on it early before some hidden gems got picked up but they stuck with Littrell and here we are now

Uh, I guess you'd be surprised at the types of players Deion has at JSU.  He'll do even better at Auburn... like instantly pull in the nations #1 class.    He is the home run hire, and the exact kind of guy you bet/risk on.

Uhh i guess you’d be surprised to know that everyone in the SEC has elite talent. Wont just be him with elite talent like it is at JSU

One thing I will say about Hermann is that I liked how highly he spoke of NT when he was calling one of our games. It was borderline like he knew the gig would be open soon and wanted to get his name thrown in the mix. He does check a lot boxes but wasn't one of his issues at Texas that he rubbed many players, coaches, and boosters the wrong way with his attitude? I could be off on that but I thought I remembered a lot of people really didn't like him on his way out?

Yes he had a very bad attitude and ran the program like a frat. Also on a few occasions made fun of opposing and did stupid things like flipping off the camera. Not to mention his history with Zack Smith and being a big fan of strip clubs lol

What HASNT he proven yet?    He's only lost 2 games over the past 2 seasons.   1 of which was the Celebration Bowl, which is basically the HBCU National Championship game.   If I'm Auburn, Deion is target #1 for me.

Do you think that the players and coaching you face at Jackson St are similar to what you face at Auburn?

But more so than that, do you think the admin there want to risk there futures on Deion? Already majorly screwed up on Harsin and now they need a homerun hire and Auburn fans and boosters will want a proven guy. I think most schools will need a few years of him at the G5 level

I think he could. Sadly, I don't know Deion which means I don't know who he is behind closed doors. If he's secretly the humble type who allows the experts do what they're paid to do, I think that can work and he likely would have a line of A+ coordinators trying to come over. If he's the Jerry Jones type who wants all the credit, it won't matter who he brings in at coordinator.

All this Deion to P5 talk is great, by the way, but I'll be shocked if a school like Auburn actually pulls the trigger on him. Those guys are trying to win national championships. I doubt they're going to try an experiment like Deion considering how cutthroat the P5 world is and how much a failed experiment could set them back. While Auburn's recruiting has certainly slipped these past couple years from consistent top 10s to 20th and 21st ranked nationally, they can climb back to top 10 rankings with a big name hire who has more than 2 years college coaching experience. Let's be honest, now; Deion isn't out-coaching Saban, Brian Kelly, Kirby Smart, Kiffin, Heupel, and so on.

Auburn and any P5 school who is seriously planning to contend for a NC will take a chance on Deion just yet. Like you said they don’t wanna try an experiment and, on top of that, lose their jobs in the process and maybe not find another one should it go badly. The big P5 schools are always looking for proven commodities and Deion isn’t one, atleast not yet. Kiffin will be Auburns new HC and Ole Piss will likely promote from within or bring back Jeff Lebby

Deion ain't it to me. The guy has never coached anywhere he's been at a disadvantage. He was the OC at a private HS for a few years with his son as QB and now has his son, a 4 star recruit, playing against FCS competition. With his name recognition, he's brought in talent that again far outweighs his competition. That talent gap shrinks at the FBS level. When that talent gap shrinks, coaching is the difference. He's yet to be in a position where elite coaching matters because his name has always brought in top talent.

My opinion, Deion has been playing everybody, using his name to get his son to start at QB at smaller schools in smaller leagues to boost his stock and get him to the league.

Spot on with what I think. Not sure he could handle out coaching and not simply using pure player talent to beat teams

UAB is playing pretty well. They lost to WK by 3, and in double overtime to UTSA with their backup QB.The Blazers have lost 5 games by a total of 27 points. At 5&5, their next 2 games are LSU and LA. Tech. Assuming they beat the Bulldogs they are bowl bound at 6 & 6. UNT should beat Rice and move to 7 &5, but lose again to UTSA for a 7 & 6 season. Looking at the stats from their first meeting its a wonder we were even in the contest. Having said that, that is what is great about College football [just ask UCLA] and why I love the game. On any given day..........

Thats not my point though. This is a team that isn’t nearly as good as they have been and this was a big game for UNT, who is supposed to be 2nd best in Conference, that they should’ve definitely won. Instead they once again play a big game and shit the bed under Littrell and hes now 1-6 vs UAB. Its a tale as old as time

Thought for a bit there might be a reason to keep him despite my better judgment, and now i see thats not the case

Jimbo says that he is assisted in play-calling with Darrell Dickey and Joe Coley, both Co-Offensive Coordinators.  Darrell was a quarterback at Kansas State and I believe that he called the plays when he was at Memphis.  I don't really know who called the plays when he was here.

DD did call plays at Memphis. Jimbo calls all plays at A&M with recommendations from DD and Coley. Jimbo is a control freak

The other problem with A&M and Jimbo that puts pressure on them....UT is coming. $86 million is a lot of money but Aggies would pay much more than that to make sure they don't lose to UT. ESPECIALLY since they've been in the SEC for longer and haven't done anything. Can you imagine what would happen if UT showed up and started having more success than A&M?

    They'd burn the campus down.

Texas was and still is a dumpster fire. They wont surpass A&M while Sark is HC. He cant win in the Big 12

  10. Spoke to some family friends today who are booster’s about A&M potentially firing Jimbo. Apparently A&M has already found him to be in breach of his contract and can fire him for significantly less than everyone thinks. And him being fired is a very real possibility now. Before the Auburn game nobody saw it as being very likely but after that miserable performance the boosters, fans, students and AD are ready to move on. Still though, A&M is worried players will transfer like crazy if hes fired which makes them hesitant to do it with how much talent is on the team currently.

The NT athletic department isn't going to let him just ride out the current contract as it would hurt the program too much.

Here's the recruiting conversation without some kind of change. "Son, why would you want to go to North Texas? Their own athletic director doesn't even believe in their coach! Why should you show any confidence in him if they don't? After he's gone, you have no way of knowing if the next coach will want you. We do. And our athletic department supports us."

If they only extend Littrell for a year or two, then "Why should you go to North Texas? They wouldn't give their coach any kind of real extension because they expect him to fail. Not only do the expect him to fail, they want to be able to fire him as cheaply as possible! Do you want to join a program that won't commit and plans based on their believe their coach is going to fail? Come to our school - we support our programs."

Thats not what im asking at all. He said “it doesn’t work that way” not “it would hurt recruiting” so I asked him to explain it

    That's not how this works.

Please explain to me how this works then. He has an another year on his contract and if nobody picks him up from another school and UNT doesn’t fire him then he will go into next year on the last year of his current deal. So UNT cant wait til mid season 2023 to sign him to an extension should he be deserving?

  13. I’d love for him to stay as I think he has helped Seth tremendously and I think the defense could improve for next year. UNT did lose 10 players on the defensive side if the ball including two key starters so a regression this years isn’t that surprising. I suspect they’d be around 74th like last year had some of those pieces not left. Unless you’re making some bigger hire, id do what i can to keep him away from retirement

  14. Best UNT uniforms ever had were the NT Mean Joe throwbacks. The flying worm is cool and probably a close second. Don’t like the current uniforms and I still don’t love the eagle wings coming out of the facemask as all I can think of is Oregon. I like when the full eagle is on the side of the helmet and I wish they went back to the previous uniforms worn while Fine was QB or did something more interesting than they currently have atleast
