My fear is that at some point, Phil Bennett gets the interim tag, gets some wins like Chico did, then Wren hires him permanently.

Phil Bennett has been a decent to good DC in his career…and one of the single worst head coaches in CFB history.

I'm not sure PB would want to be a full time HC. He's already supercommuting for only 4 days a week from College Station where he lives. I don't think he'd have any interest.

Steve Sarkisian’s contract at UT is for six years at 34.2M (let’s just call it 30M to keep the math simple and clean).   So, that’s 5M a year.  At least three of his assistants have guaranteed million dollar contracts.

He also has the most profitable football program in America, so no shortage of resources.

What’s the ROI on this?   A 4-3 record with signature wins against ULa-La and Texas Tech…and being outscored by a total of 41-7 in the 4th quarters of their past two games.

Aren’t they like one of the only teams that really makes a huge amount of money on their investment? Or is that an aged stat.

So, is that the pattern?  SL is gone next year (maybe) and the new guy/gal inherits these better recruiting classes.  So, they look good early on but then collapse.  Rinse and repeat???

Typically, yeah. Unless we make a good hire, but that's too early to tell. Would be a good thing to consider when looking for a new coach - someone who people like playing for.

  4. I feel like he's not actually in that hot of a seat. Today's game isn't looking great, but his teams have been close a lot.

Also he seems to be going through a lot in his personal life... not sure I feel the need for an expanding program to take that on.

  5. I'm curious if the financials are tied up because we are also trying to pay exit fees from C-USA if we're picked up. I have to imagine Wren is busy as hell talking to conferences, finding donors, figuring out what to do with Seth... I know people are talking about how Wren needs to be fired now, but I think he's really getting tested right now. This is the moment where he should rise to the occasion.

With small samples you can't really use averages, especially with outliers such as KU and UTA. I still wouldn't use avg here but removing those 2 gives an avg of 96. The median is 90.5. Long story short: we've got some tough OOC opponents.

That’s true - more so was trying to just highlight how tough our OOC opponents will be. Ready for this season!

My last [and I mean it] statement on this subject is that while we are in violent agreement that we have a great job soon to become available, we,at least I, don't have any idea how we are perceived by the coaching community. Reminds me of the story of the Sales Manager of BIG WOLF dog food company standing before his sale force at their annual sales meeting saying ," I don't understand it! We have the best canned dog food on the market. It has more beef that our competitor, our packaging is the envy of the industry, and we can match anyone"s pricing. Someone please tell me why we are not selling dog food! " The sales reps from Denton stood up in the back and replied, " the dogs don't like it." While we can agree that UNT has an excellent coaching position coming available lets hope that the dogs like it.

The athletic I believe wrote about how our. coaching position is a very hot job, and the D1ticker poll among AD’s seems to corroborate that.
