  1. I have always wanted us to be dominant in all sports and move up to a better conference. Reality is football drives realignment opportunities. So if we go to the MWC now because they currently have a better TV contract, we will again be setting us up for failure. When the better MWC schools make their jump to the PAC12 and or BIG12 the current TV contract will be voided. The new TV contract for the MWC won’t pay as much. We will be stuck in a weak conference and now have even greater travel expenses. UNT can’t cover our current scholarship expenses. It is sad to say, but money drives what happens. Just saying…
  2. The better MWC schools are likely going to leave when they get an invite to the PAC12 or BIG12. The current TV contract will be voided. The next TV contract won’t pay as much. We will play lesser MWC schools with more travel expenses and a poor TV contract. That will be our reality.
  3. Yep, exactly. We aren’t a dominant program in our current conference. Why would a stronger conference want us? In 10 years we haven’t even sold out our 31K seat stadium. When we came close, it was because we had a great visitor crowd. We don’t bring people to home games so we damn sure aren’t going to travel to Utah, Idaho, California… I personally don’t like seeing our poor showings for football now. I damn sure don’t want to see us get clobbered by better programs every week. I know many of our programs are starting to show success (MBB, WBB, track, softball, golf, volleyball). And soccer has always been good (more people should praise that program for it’s success). I want to see if we can maintain this more than 3-4 years at a time before a coach leaves and we regress. For football, we need to quit scheduling SMU (6 wins in almost 50 tries! Most of those wins from before I was born!!!). I am tired of getting curb stomped by them. What’s the definition of insanity? Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. How about we try playing some of the lower MWC schools or lower Sunbelt schools or WAC?
  4. Just wondering if this is what is best for UNT. I have read a few articles about G5’s re-organizing into more regional conferences in order to save money on travel expenses for all sports (we never will have a tv contract that will offset the costs). Also encourages rival games from schools within driving distance. UNT hasn’t dominated CUSA in football but moving to a better conference will change that for the better??? Also the MWC is a much better basketball conference. It typically is only at best a 2 bid conference. Are we going to dominate the MWC’s better basketball programs for one of the 2 bids??? Maybe we should work harder to dominate in our “weak” conference. Is it more realistic to be a big fish in a small pond? Any thoughts, comments???
  5. This right here is the problem. If the QB coach is teaching progression reads the QB tends to look too long at a receiver. At a higher level of play (college, pro), QB coaches should be teaching coverage reads. If you start the play and see your outside receivers mugged up tight with inside help (all game long by the way) and you see your 3rd receiver with a defender off of him, he should be your 1st read. You should know the first 2 reads won’t be available. This is what I believe is part of the offensive problem. Our QB is inexperienced and not recognizing these coverages yet. He is making progression reads like a high school QB is taught. I am hopeful that this progresses and Ruder will show us what he is capable of playing like. Takes time(experience) to develop/see this. When this happens, he will play faster. Hoping this happens sooner than later. Fingers crossed…
  6. The first two reads were mugged with absolutely no separation. Third read was wide open. Took too long with the first two reads. It was almost too late.
  7. I agree with this and was my point at the start of this thread. We are playing for the second half of the season. Then decisions will be made. Then we can start complaining about should of fired, could have hired…
  8. I’m not defending anything. Just being realistic about the breakdown of the entire situation. Many on this forum demanded we switch to a 4 man defensive line and a new DC. Done, the success remains to be seen. I do think PB will help but he probably won’t be here after his 2 year contract ends. Bring in better defensive players through the transfer portal. Well, we brought in many players. Haven’t seen much difference in play. Bring in a better QB so we can win now. He is a work in progress and I truly hope he isn’t a bust. Bring in receivers to replace the ones we lost to graduation. Those new receivers aren’t tearing up the stats for production. Improve our recruiting success. Well, we have 5 years of improved recruiting with the last 3 being great. Yet many of these “better” recruits aren’t making plays on the field. I don’t have an answer for all of these failures. Littrell is getting all of the blame. As a head coach should. But, come on. We all know successful assistant coaches aren’t sending resumes to Wren begging to be hired. And good starting players that are wanting to transfer aren’t begging Seth for a chance to play at UNT.
  9. I agree Ruder is waiting for receivers to get open. The touchdown he threw was almost too late. As the receiver ran across the back of the end zone, he almost threw it into a defender. The ball should have been thrown as he made his cut when he was wide open. Fine made a hell of a living here throwing quick slants to a spot and trusting the receivers to be there. Haven’t seen that so far with Ruder. I also believe a lot of that trust comes with developing chemistry with the receivers. That just takes some time. The way UAB’s defenders mugged all of our receivers on every vertical route. None of our receivers got any separation from a defender. Quick slants would have helped with that tight man to man coverage. Our QB and receivers just don’t seem to be clicking yet.
  10. I was. Even when my friends quit going to the games. We barely beat a bad UTSA team. Lost a close one to UTEP (Freaking UTEP!!!), and were blown out of every other game. UNT did not play inspired ball for an interim coach. And I remember reading about how all the players loved playing for Canalas.
  11. UNT was blown out every game except the one victory against UTSA and the loss to UTEP (20-17). UNT did not suddenly play inspired ball with an interim coach. Southern Miss changed coaches at the beginning of last season (different reasons…). Still can’t get their act together. If this staff needs to go, wait until the end of the season.
  12. I wish Harrell never left also. I also remember our defense was decent those first 2 years and were at one point close to the top of the nation in takeaways. Our defense went to crap and so did the rest of the team. Fix the damn defense and the whole team will be better. I think PB can do that. Just not realistic to expect it to be done by the 3rd game of the season.
  13. Not in the beginning of a season. Would only create chaos. Did UNT play better when McCarney was fired?
  14. Again, take off the green glasses and put down the cup of green kool-aid. Be realistic. Not a jerk, a realist.
  15. Do you struggle with math? Realistic expectations for this season were 4-5 wins. Even if we win out the last half of the season at best we can do is 7-5. I hope we beat UTSA, but come on… At best 6-6 is possible. Prove to future players that UNT can win with a better defensive scheme. Then hopefully better transfer portal players will come and continue to build up the defense. Currently we are only getting transfer portal players that can’t play at their current schools. Why do we think that they will excel here? Another programs bust isn’t going to be our star player.
  16. I’m there at every home game and watching away games. Also realistic enough to know change in defensive schemes takes time and new players that fit the scheme. QB’s take time to develop. Look at the jump Fine made from his freshman year to his sophomore.
  17. Let’s be realistic. We were the worst defense in all of division 1 last year. Last years offensive stats were boosted by the fact that we were blown out of most games by halftime and we played against the backup defenders in the second half. This year we have a physically talented QB with potential that only threw 7 passes in a game in 4 years at NC. He had 3-4 weeks to learn a new playbook. Despite the coach speak about doing a great job picking up the scheme, it is obvious he is “thinking” too much and not playing instinctively (remember how many yards Fine threw his freshman year?). Our projected starting RB who has shown the power to move a pile for the hard short yards, tore his ACL in practice. We have “talented” receivers that also have hardly played at their previous schools our were injured last year for us. Our defensive scheme is better, but we still have most of the same defensive players that were terrible last year. No realistic person thought we would be better than 1-5 after the first 6 games. UAB got clobbered by Georgia. They came here with the intent to make a statement that they still are the conference bully. Changing coaches in the beginning of the season is a bad idea. I want to see if the players and new coaches (I know Littrell has had 6 years…) continue to progress as the season plays out. Look at the whole season, then decide what to change. I hope this team saves this game and uses it as fuel for next season and kicks UAB’s ass without mercy (anybody else see UAB’s QB body slam our defensive back in the end zone??? That should be plenty of fuel for a lifetime!!!). We are playing for the second half of the season. Then next year!!! GMG!!!
  18. Yep. The wings on the helmet look great. We have similar helmets. Their jerseys are fresh and modern looking. They are not wearing tired looking throwback jerseys and helmets every week.
  19. I don’t think I have given a down vote either. Just prefer to move on from a comment I don’t agree with. But, there is a reputation score? Never knew this.
  20. Put the SOW where the star would go. Now we are talking…
  21. I actually have a green and black flag that looks like the US flag with the SOW where the stars would be. Kinda cool.
  22. Better than “fire the coach because we lost a game that everyone thought we would lose before the season started” talk. GMG!!!
  23. The green state flag looks high schoolish.
