  1. The last thing Denton needs is another McDonalds. The university is offering well above market price for 1 acre. That IHOP needs to go as well nothing makes me cringe more than seeing that blue roof next to the university seal.

Really? I guess some people can't live without their IHOP or McDonalds.

People want to win against teams they've heard of.  That's why the SBC years didn't move the needle very much.  We'd beat up on teams no one had heard of and then get steam rolled by the teams where all their friends and family had gone to school.  So painful.  Then all the teams no one had heard of started beating us too.  Ugh.

Time to go hit the bottle.

Yes, exactly! The SBC years were great but let's keep things in perspective. We went 1-3 in those bowl games.

  3. Smatresek is coming over from a basketball school, that's his strength, I'm not surprised he pushed for that buyout. SL got the extension from the new AD because Baker wants to let it be known he has full confidence in him, which is the right thing to do politically. As far as soccer is concerned, he should lock up that coach and give him more money to start a men's program! Wren needs to fire our softball coach....I believe that will be his first fire and hire.

  4. I think it's well known you're on the Baker train..but correct me if I'm wrong when I say Baker didn't hire SL. The true test will be when SL leaves and Baker needs to hire his replacement. I'm optimistic he is capable of making a good hire. I like Smatrsek he has brought the kind of accountability and management that should be expected from a tier one university.

I feel like there is nothing bold at all about predictions 2 and 3-

I like your bold opinion. Keep it coming!

  5. These predictions were the most interesting to me:

    3. The backup quarterback situation will be a talking point.

Can Fine stay healthy through the whole season? Let's hope so, this team will go as far as Fine can take it.

    4. UNT will win at least one game it's not supposed to

Let's hope it's more than just one but beating SMU would be a great start to the season.

I think it's really important to distinguish some key points here:

    • The Keuhne Speaker Series is not in any way related to the UNT  Lecture Series, and is not funded by student fees in any way.
    • Ernie donated the funds himself to start it and subsequent donations and event sponsorships have kept it afloat.
    • The whole series is essentially a Who's Who in America list for Conservative-only speakers.

All that said, I've never understood the point of the Series. No scholarships are generated. No academic or athletic units funded. This whole thing seemingly comes across as a way for Ernie and Brint Ryan to have their own fun Conservative fundraising club that benefits... (?) I literally see no benefit to the University in any capacity.

And then this announcement is just so tone deaf to be comical.

    Thank you for the explanation

USA has a 43-35 all time record, played in a bowl game in 2014 & 2016. They're playing a home game against Okie State this year. They aren't a blow over team. Yes they play in the belt, but they are on the better end of belt teams imo. So yes, I would rather play a medium belt team than a terrible in-state team.

All relevant points but this series is scheduled for 2024 and 2025. Is this the reason why they cancelled the Army series? Time will tell I guess but at least the Army series had national recognition.
