  1. At the end of the day, the Super Pit is not really that great. Lack of true premium seating, suites, elevators, entertainment areas for donors, legit practice facility, outside needs a ton of work to make it inviting, etc. It is missing so many things that a premier venue would need and I don't see it making financial sense to renovate. For the cash it will take to make it what you want, I think your money would be better spent by building new. And that doesn't even scratch the surface of the issues that arise from Athletics not controlling the facility.

If the plan is to keep good basketball coaches around, I think a new arena needs to be a priority. Baseball is a long-term issue to me. Fixing the basketball facility is a very short-term issue.

  2. I can’t remember who, but I heard a P5 AD once say that he wanted a third of his stadium to be sold out from season tickets. For Apogee, that number equates to approximately 10k. Last I heard, we were still under 5k. That seems like a fair target to me. Once we get there and actually have a sellout or two under our belt and we have strung together some sustained success on the field, I would agree it’s time to consider expansion. Until then, just win!

I agree with the comment that you don’t add seats to cater to visiting team fans. When Texas travels to USC, do you really think the administration at USC is concerned about seating for Texas fans? If anything, they’re trying to figure out how to get more USC fans in the building to keep Texas fans out.

  3. Honestly, if someone buys out Seth's contract (no matter how big it is), that means UNT has had a hell of a run. I'll take it! Also, with the hires Wren has shown he's committed to making, I trust that the next head coach will be a good fit and continue the momentum. Worrying about the size of the buyout is a relatively minor concern to me. Let's win some games, raise some money, and sell some tickets! Everything else will take care of itself in due time.

  4. They are a recent purchase of Learfield. From what I can tell, they’ve been a monster in the collegiate ticket world for a while though (OU, UT, Texas Tech, Mizzou, Alabama, Arkansas, Michigan, just to name a few of their clients).

Thought this His was interesting too:

Under terms of the deal, Ticketmaster must license its ticketing software to Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG) to help it become a viable competitor instead of a customer of Ticketmaster. In addition, Ticketmaster must sell its Paciolan primary ticketing division to Comcast-Spectacor, which currently controls much of Philadelphia’s sports, venue and ticketing ventures.”

DENTON – North Texas athletics announced today that it has entered into a partnership with Paciolan, an industry-leading ticketing, access-management and fundraising company. Paciolan is expected to help North Texas athletics enhance all donor and fan experiences while generating additional revenue.

“Over the past few months we have made several changes to improve our customer service in the ticket purchase and donor processes,” Vice President and Director of Athletics Wren Bakersaid. “As we continue to search for ideas to streamline the customer experience for Mean Green fans, we believe Paciolan provides the best solution. One of our goals is to be an industry leader in making it easy and accessible for fans to enjoy UNT athletic events, and Paciolan provides better synergy across all of our platforms and should be the most seamless system to assist in that effort.”
