  1. You know what's interesting to me is that this is year 3 of the SL era at UNT. He got here right before a report came out laying out things this department had not done to truly commit to athletics (a majority on this board agreed with it, by the way). This team is 3 years removed from a blowout loss at home against FCS Portland State and a 1-11 record. You can count me in the group impressed with what SL has done in the time he's been in Denton. Get this next recruiting class locked in, a practice facility, and I think this program is set for a good run for a while. If anything, the disappointment I think many fans are feeling is a result of the product this staff has put on the field in such a short period of time.

Players sign scholarships with schools not coaches.

Legally, I agree with this statement. Practically, this is far from the truth. Coaches matter, as do those relationships, styles of play, etc.

Who wants to watch a game where you know that the majority of the players has no loyalty to "their" team/program/university? I don't.

But you’re okay with coaches who aren’t? My issue is there’s a higher standard for players than there is coaches.

The athletic program should have some sort of, for lack of a better word, indoctrination program in all the schools in the DISD starting with elementary school through High School.  Free tickets to elementary school kids means the parents have to take them, they pay and get introduced to our product in addition to the new young fans.  Give free t-shirts to the kids.  Have Scrappy, the cheerleaders and athletes going to the schools.  I know there are student athlete volunteer programs (reading, etc) that are well participated, but there are so many things we could do but haven't.  Mean Green t-shirts given away to students by local sponsors.  Prizes to the schools with the most participation, it is limitless.

I've seen them do literally everything you mentioned in the last 5 years or so, even before this AD. They're trying. At the end of the day, there's no magic bullet. The magicest bullet is winning consistently. Things are certainly trending up. Just keep winning.

  4. I don't buy that the city of Denton hasn't bought in (sure, there could be more). If you factor in season tickets and sponsorship revenue from Denton businesses/residents with owners who have no real tie to UNT except for living/working in Denton, I bet you'd be surprised how much Denton money is flowing into UNT even though those ties don't exist. I can think of several lawyers and other Denton business owners who buy club seats even (and not the cheap ones) with ties to UT, A&M, SMU, etc.

I think the biggest issue for UNT is the 100K alums in DFW who aren't making the trek to Denton on game days.

  5. In addition to sustained success on the field...

9,000 more season tickets (let's get to half the building sold in season tickets)

2,800 more MGSF donors (let's get to 5,000 total)

$2.2M more MGSF dollars (let's get to $5M total)

I feel like these are the financial numbers that will make us attractive when the conversation about moving up starts.

I am a little concerned that there appears to be little development of the backup quarterbacks

Curious why you say this... Have you seen practice to see their development? Considering they haven’t really had that much PT, I’m not sure how anyone could know about their development. Outside of the weekly QB competition they post about, I feel like we hardly see anything about the backups.

  7. I like that fans can get a taste of sitting on the sideline without having to be a MGSF donor. Those become clients who you can call and talk to about upgrading and moving over. To me, that's the conversation that would grow loyalty and make fans feel important versus just doing a money grab to get an extra 25 bucks. There are a ton of seats available in already-existing donor sections. Let's sell those and then we can talk about expanding donor sections. That side of the stadium already consistently struggles with sales. Why make it more expensive? And just because 25 bucks is not a big deal to you doesn't mean it's not a big deal to someone.
