  1. So I'm only supposed to be proud of where I went to school when it's successful? I understand there have been long years of frustration at multiple points, I know the history of this university. It's not about jumping in the front of the success bus, the years of suffering only make success so much more satisfying.
  2. Look sir, I am Pro Chico, but I'm not campaigning for him, I don't have to. Nothing I say on this message board matters in the least bit to the people making this decision. My opinion doesn't matter to anyone but me. Nothing that happens on this board is influencing decision makers, this is a place to discuss our football program, and there are a plethora of opinions, but they are all opinions. I'm not right in my thinking, neither are you, neither is anyone else, we all have differing views on what will work and what won't. There are guys championing a man who only knows his dad (played for his dad in HS, in college, has coached his entire 8 year career for his dad and has one year calling plays under his belt) but people think he could take this program to the next level. i don't know why you're so angry, but your statement is very much invalid. I don't want to argue with you, you don't like the guy I like for the job, the guy you like for the job isn't coming here, we are in the same boat. At the end of the day, I'm going to support this university, whoever it chooses to hire, because this place gave me an education and a future and I know the world is bigger than what I want. I'm North Tecas 'til I die.
  3. Thought you asked appropriate questions, everyone did. I really enjoyed the show and loved the support you all showed Chico, he looked genuinely happy. And he has never said he didn't want the job, he only said his only focus right now was turning around the outlook of the kids. He just wants to build some confidence in the kids and for them to taste some success. That's a really difficult question to answer on a public forum....puts me in a lose/lose situation. You want to grab a cup of coffee sometime, we could talk, lol.
  4. To be honest, Chico is the outsider in a group of Mac guys, so take that with a grain of salt. Other than that, I am way too close to the situation, because I KNOW the man, and I know this school, I want what is best for both. He cares about this place, he really does. My opinion is biased, but that doesn't mean it's wrong. And I am going to leave it at that, I think Chico would be the best HC at North Texas. And that will be the last I say of it....on a positive note, MEAN GREEN WIN and the whiny orange get shut out :)
  5. There aren't enough of us to fight each other, we need to support each other, not get angry with each other, 90 is right. I'll see you all in a few weeks, to see this season end on a positive not. The only beat down will be the Mean Green beating down UTEP.
  6. Teegarden wasn't recruited to play QB, he was recruited as an athlete. It was deemed best that he play at receiver. Andy Mac and Coop competed to see who would stay at QB and who would switch positions, guess who won that battle? Williams wasn't given a real chance, but he mostly did that to himself. Chumley isn't a QB, he's a TE. Just because you play QB in high school, doesn't mean that's what you are. And Means is a freshmen, I wouldn't count out that kid being the real deal at some point.
  7. I wasn't here for Means, I haven't seen that much of him, I know they think he has potential.
  8. As I have said before I was a GA for two years here, with Mac and Dodge. No, I'm not related. I was a walk on here for three years, I am alum of this university and I coached here for two years. I'm sorry that I am a football coach and actually know what a good football coach looks like. And I will champion that man any time, any place. I would run full speed, head first into a brick wall over and over for that man. He is without comparison the greatest football coach, and man, that I have ever met. So if you dislike the fact that I have all the respect in the world for that man, I'm sorry that you feel that way.
  9. Not as great as it is that you have absolutely no say in anything that happens at this university....no matter how many immature and tasteless banners you fly :) you petulant, little child.
  10. I don't in the least bit understand what your problem is with Ozzy, but I coached that kid for two years, and he could play. He wasn't better than DT, I'm sorry that you people have some bias against DT, but he was a great leader with an extremely high football IQ and made plays when he needed to. And oh ya, he led us to our SECOND EVER bowl win and was the MVP. I know you all think you are football experts, but you're not. I know Andy Mac played over Ozzy, but only one person wanted that.....and it wasn't Chico. The other two kids were not recruited by Canales. And again, Kent Riddle pushed for Berglund, Chico didn't want him. And guess what, Riddle's evaluation was poor and Berglund was all hype, and the most arrogant person on the planet to boot. Chico didn't want Greer coming out of high school, I can't imagine he wanted him the second time. When Canales came in, Riley was firmly entrenched as the starter. DT wasn't even part of the QB meetings, he sat in the back of the room while TD sat with Tune and Riley. Chico identified DT as the guy, and guess what, he was the guy.
  11. Well then...I stand corrected. They updated it from when I read it, it was just the first three names this morning.
  12. Arizona State also played Iowa State last weekend? The article says Mike Norvell, not Jay. They are different people entirely.
  13. They thought he looked like Chico from 'Chico and the Man' and it has stuck with him through the years.
  14. No, he won't. These aren't his guys. These are Mac's guys. Canales has been coaching for almost 30 years, he has a long list of quality guys I'm sure.
  15. I was in the room for two years, I know it for a fact. Mac dictated exactly what he wanted at QB. He didn't want Andy Mac getting out recruited, his bias for him was....too much. Does being super angry and acting like the most knowledgeable person on the board, emphasis on the acting, help fill some unfulfilled dream?
  16. Yes. Obviously he has a job, just not a coaching job. There are 128 of these jobs, my point is that any chance to be a head coach for someone who is not is a big opportunity. We need to stop looking at ourselves as stepchildren and maybe everyone else will as well. Just because someone has interest in this job, and we recognize their name, doesn't mean they should be hired.
  17. An unemployed guy is interested in a job? I for one am shocked! So he is interested in any job and no one is hiring him? Oh, he sounds like a must hire!! Just because you recognize the name doesn't mean the guy is a good hire.
  18. Sandwiches are way too healthy for him. A guy I GA'd with and a guy I played with in high school played for him during the 2006-2009 run. Said he would eat a bowl of mac and cheese as an appetizer before devouring an entire family of fried chicken. He also likes to dip potato chips in butter. But most importantly was their emphasis on how much the players could not stand Mangino.
  19. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! Rick V, "I want to hire a good coach..........
  20. "I wouldn’t ask them to talk to me on the sideline. I’d probably go hang out with all the high-dollar donors in the Apogee Stadium luxury suites and club level, where all the big decisions are made anyway." Truer words have never been spoken.
  21. Thank you! Ask South Florida how hiring a guy because his dad was a good coach worked out for them.
  22. I think many of you are putting too much emphasis on the money, it's about what the school can do for their career. Every coach has aspirations of great things for their career. If it's a coordinator who knows he needs HC experience in order to get a higher profile HC job, then obviously we are somewhere that he could take a look at rebuilding for a few years and generating some success. The title of head coach means more than the money to many, many coaches. There are only 128 of these jobs, it is not an easy position to find, hence why Malzahn took a $700,000 pay cut to got to Arkansas ST, he knew he needed HC experience to land a better gig. Some guys are more patient, waiting for the right job and end up at a worse program, see Chad Morris. Whether it's Malzahn, Freeze, Graham, Briles, Taggart, Addazio or McElwain, they look at mid majors as a launching point to make a bigger name for themselves. It's more about can I use this as a jump start to my future head coaching career, and less about how much money can I get out of them. To think that Lincoln Riley, Briles, Spavital or even an Orlando wouldn't use this as a launching point, is only setting yourself up for failure. Does that mean that they can't come in and right the ship and set us up for future success, absolutely not. If the right guy can come in for three years, recruit their butts off, get the alumni and students excited about football and get us back in a bowl game and move on to better things, I would be very happy with that. If we want an extended tenure of a successful head coach, let's make ourselves attractive to the American. Just bring in a guy who wants to make a name for themselves, not ride the coattails of other guys who were successful. I don't want more empty words or excuses, I want a guy who is desperate to win and hungry.
