They are rebranding. With their move to the ACC their Jersey's will now say "America" they are upgrading to call themselves "America's Team".

Very appropriate. Just like the other America's Team in Arlington, SMU's stands will be filled with visiting fans.

There is a disgusting amount of people I know that religiously watch their T-shirt school every Saturday but is like pulling teeth to get them to UNT games. Both football and basketball. The excuses are always the same. But it all comes back to the lack of engagement when we were in school.

This is a good reason why we need to stay engaged with Denton ISD at all ages and the surrounding schools. Let's make these kiddos Mean Green T-shirt fans before they're old enough to know what a T-shirt fan is!

I know the women's basketball team has an 11am game that is usually one of the most highest attended of the season due to all the DISD kids they bring out. I don't know if you could do a midday game during the week for any other sport. Perhaps volleyball, but they don't have any trouble filling that high school barn. Possibly soccer and softball, too.

This year in softball, the Tracey Beard Classic was in Denton, but the past two years it's been in Melissa and Celina. Maybe if the tournament is moved back to Melissa, the Friday morning game could be a field trip for one of the grades at MISD. Or make it a Monday-Wednesday tournament playing all day games to expand your reach. Develops a few new fans in Collin County. The capacity appears to be comparable to Lovelace.

Lots of missed opportunities this season.  We were streaky within most games.  Easy layups would have been great instead of the circus slam dunks that failed.   Out-of-control ball handling into the paint for a turnover, an extra muffed pass causing the shot clock to expire, poor free-throws that would have sealed a win, etc.  Ross hopefully will clean up much of it.

The team needs more play-ready reserves, 3 Bigs instead of 2, 3 power forwards instead of 1, more inside game instead of just outside.  Year 2 will be interesting from the roster makeover and retention standpoint.

I'd like to have an actual 3 as well. Someone Aaron's size but a little stronger, who can handle the ball well, and can threaten to get some easy points at the hoop just as well as he can threaten to make a 3.

We’ll be fine. Hodge definitely knows what this team needs.  I’m excited to see what this team looks like next year.  And I’m looking forward to seeing some of our younger guys getting some playing time.

But can he coach them to hit their free throws in the clutch, and to finish those bunnies at the rim!

  5. His welcome gift from the university should be a working shot clock!

Anywho, I've seen a lot of compliments about him, sure. 10 to 20 wins from Year 1 to 2 is great. But staying in the conference makes me wonder how much effort Rice actually put into a coaching search. We know they obviously don't care to upgrade their facilities.

Ladies have done well lately after a difficult schedule to start the year.

Like the fact that we upgraded the facilities, yet think we can do more for them.  I'm remote so see

games but those last few were still exciting with the walk off homers, etc.

Understand the impeding runner from the base rule, but it has to be modified.   Tulsa was clearly

out at 3rd base long before getting to the bag and our girl was definitely out at home yet they both

offset and things worked out.  Shame those decisions can affect the game with such impact.

Exciting times to be a Mean Green Fan across the board.

My buddy and I went to the tournament they played at Arkansas last season. Big fan of Bogle Park. Not saying we need an SEC-sized complex yet, but it'd be cool to have a few suites on either side of the pressbox, green pull down seats behind home plate, maybe like five rows of bleachers in left field, incorporate a "tailgate homerun porch" like we currently have at The Lace in right field, and a grass beam in center field like at the old Rangers ballpark.

I was just countering your view, in the hope that you could see both sides of the issue.

The more boisterous NT fans can be, within reason, the better.

I get it, you pay money for a game, you should be able to at least see the game.

But many UNT fans need to find a medium that's closer than the group that was standing all conference tournament, trying to provide some homecourt advantage, than the group that would go on the Willis Library Wall of Fame for good behavior!

    Regarding this:

    • Loosen up media credential ability while we continue to get little coverage. Allow/encourage local Denton high school newspaper/videoproduction/photography organizations to be a part of North Texas game days.

The AD / School do a great job supporting media. I covered all of CUSA for a bit and there are some programs that actively discourage anyone not named ESPN from covering things. NT is great  at encouraging and supporting non-traditional media coverage (blogs, podcasts, small sites, etc) . No complaints.

I have no problem believing they do for most of the entities that ask. But for a lot of my ideas including this one it's something we just can't wait to happen. We've got to start the dialogue with these high school student organizations.

In my short time organizing group outings at away games, I've found out that most non-art nerds would be interested in attending a game, they just never thought about it, and especially after graduating there's nobody else guiding them to go to a game.

Before the men's basketball game at Rice, I spent the last week before searching UNT alumni on LinkedIn and filtering out the Houston peeps. In that short notice I was able to woo the interest of four parties buying 8 extra tickets, and gained contacts for the future who said they'd be interested in going, but understandably already had plans that weekend.

There was some initial weird feeling before sending messages off to strangers, but that wore off. I had a lot of great conversations. The university needs to be more aggressive in forging relationships with the community in ways that don't seem like they're soley after your money.

The school just hasn’t figured out how to engage a bigger percentage of the student body. Getting them to care while they’re on campus is so important because once they graduate, it’s much harder. For every 10 people I knew while in school, maybe 7 of them watched any college sports and probably 2-3 of them cared about UNT sports. So how do they bridge that gap is the question.

It is crazy how many people I talk to - whether they went to UNT the same time I did, or whether they went to UNT 20 years ago like my boss - who have still never been to a single basketball game.

Also, the athletic department has, as far as I've been able to tell, is filled with people looking for a "better gig" from top to bottom. Until we get someone at the top that WANTS to be at UNT and knows what he/she is doing it will always be more of the same.

Thank you, I've been trying to find a way to put this. Also, I know we want the most qualified people in these important roles in the AD but some actual UNT alumni who want to see our athletics succeed before any other P5 team and will work hard to make that a reality would be nice too.

  11. While a Final Four team would definitely get our head coach swooped up, I'm optimistic a coaching change wouldn't throw us off course much anymore. This is the first time we've had seven straight winning seasons. While losing here isn't going to get death threats like at the P6 schools, I feel the pressure is greater now for us to succeed. And with the rise of social media it is easier for the AD to feel the pressure. As much of a fan I am of Wren and Jared, their availability on social media also leaves them subject to hearing displeasures much more often than Rick might have. I don't think he was on Twitter.

From an old Fart, I doubt anyone has ever told you to be quiet.  However, standing up in front of someone who may not be able to stand for long periods, is not something you should be proud of.   Those same old farts are the biggest financial supporters of the team.

If you want to stand up, maybe you should sit in the higher rows.

So it sounds like we need to buy an entire section of season tickets! 🤔

I may not be in the financial situation to be a major donor of the program but I try to make up for it for going to as many games as possible. 39 so far this school year across all six specator sports. While I'm still physically able I plan to keep being rowdy and holding the refs accountable from as close to the court as I can (while refraining to curse if there's kids sitting nearby). I try not to stand as much if there's people directly behind us, but a lot of our crowd needs to be better at recognizing when we're grabbing momentum and get louder. There's more instances than us dribbling out a win with 20 seconds left to get on your feet and make some noise.

Also, watching March Madness and I'm seeing a lot of non-students standing throughout the game from the front row to the top. The more energetic fans need to be closer to the court.

  13. Huge weekend which started with four 5-1 teams tied atop the AAC and ended with just two 8-1 teams. That series at home against FAU is gonna be huge!

Updated standings below. Note ECU took 2 of 3 from Charlotte, the CUSA refugee who gave us the most trouble last year. Those were ECU's first two wins of conference play after going 21-2 in nonconference.

If you're like me and Arlington is a closer drive to you from home or work than Denton, come out Tuesday night at 6 to support the team as they try to sweep UTA in 2024!

Please create a standing cheering section for crazy fans of all ages opposite of the Maniacs section. Watch season tickets increase.

Our circle has season tickets spread out across the Pit, but yup! We're considering just buying a few rows together next year (just have to figure out which section), because all of us have had run-in's with those types of fans this year.

For all you youngsters out there, the environment that we faced today was very similar to our old days at the original pit...very small facility with people packed into it and REALLY REALLY LOUD.  In fact, that was the reason that Maury Johns of Drake dubbed to snake pit back in the 60's.  It was nightmare for visitors and it won a lot of games for us, due to the intimidation we created.

I finally bought season tickets this year after a few years of continuing to stand in the student section. Now that the Maniacs have established themselves, we tried to bring noise on the other end. But we need some of the old farts to stop telling the energetic fans to sit down/be quiet. Those people should go sit up in the higher rows!
