NT wouldn't have a chance to play KSU until the championship. What a storyline that would be! TP vs JE!!
I know a lot of work to do, but one can dream.

Yes , we have a higher NET rating.
Imagine that. A tournament that actually takes NET into consideration. NCAA snubbed other high NET ranked teams, so it isn't the end all be all.

It really does feel like Grant built something here that is a winning culture. I think we got picked because of our name. Which is just weird still to me. I love it though!

What’s ironic is that Tylor Perry transferred to get right back in the NIT, and potentially, face his former team.
I was going to post something about this. Very ironic. Only difference is he is a lot more well off financially.

Why should someone be made to play if they don't want to? It'd just turn into the college bowl game crisis where so many kids opt out.
I still don't understand why teams wouldn't want to play more games. I think the only reason I can think of is getting a head start on recruiting?

It helps that several schools looked down their noses at the NIT, but I'll take it.
Exactly! That's what I was saying before. I was hoping it made a diff.

Honestly, I think we got more weight considering we won it.

Ironic given St Johns helped run it for around 70 years. I believe they've also won more NIT titles than anyone (many back when it was arguably as prestigious as the NCAA).
Pitino is too good for it.

It seems crazy to me these teams wouldn't want to just play more basketball. Even if it's for the seniors. Just don't see the disadvantage.
Now on the other hand, I am glad they feel that way because it gives us a glimmer of hope.

I think there’s enough NIT declines to give us a chance. And a healthy squad legitimately win it again.
Where are you seeing these declines? Just curious.

We are NOT getting into the NIT.
Yeah, I know. Just trying to dream I guess.

I was onboard with Mac from the beginning, but it doesn't mean that we didn't have struggles. The first season showed so much promise and year two started off so well that it was pretty devastating when we floundered the second half of the campaign.
Curious to know your thoughts on Hodge with their first years being somewhat similar.

Yeah, I actually wouldn't be stunned if FAU were left out to be honest. Quad 4 losses are brutal.
Doesn't that hurt us more for NIT? Even if it was already a long shot.

We struggled down the stretch of Mac's first two years. Year two we started out like 15-1 before limping to the end.
This gives me hope.

It's funny how Cougar Queen is so quiet after these types of losses.

What? Mac lost 7 of his last 8 games before we entered the CBI. We indicated we would participate in the CBI after an early contact before those losses. We probably would not have been invited to the CBI if they had waited until late Feb to make their contacts. I am sure there are others on this board who remember those facts.

I am glad you posted it. I was already formulating a similar response in my head when I read that post. And I have to keep harping on it. Look at what we did after that.
My point is. Let's see where we go from here. When you get used to winning and being really good, it's hard to take a step back, but it was inevitable at some point. I was trying to explain that to @Big Z last night.
My pipe dream is Hodge becomes our Bill Self.

The next tournament will tell us if Houston is that good, and/or the other B12ers are overrated.
I think this is the case. Houston is on another level.

They're automatically giving preference to teams in the Power Leagues (something the NIT hasn't done since the NCAA took it over). Twelve spots are gonna be taken over by those leagues before any other schools are selected.
Crap, I read that wrong. American isn't in that automatic list. That's really crappy.scrappy.
Can they make it any more obvious they want as much post season for the P5?
QuoteAdditional teams from the six conferences with automatic qualifications are eligible to be selected as at-large teams and can be selected as hosts.

Yeah, we don't have much of a chance with the priority on taking power league schools.
Maybe I am reading something wrong, but it says automatic bids are from NET. 68 teams make it in the NCAA, we are NET 79. I know NCAA is not top 68 of NET, but how does this not help us?

For sure! Read last night about the Michigan opening. And, Dusty May had a stint at Eastern Michigan FWIW.
I think most likely destinations are Ohio State/Louisville, with Michigan a distant third.Out of curiosity and my laziness, did any schools try and money whip him last season?
If they did and he didn't leave, and with Davis and Goldin being Jr's, it seems very likely (depending on NCAA run) he turns down any opportunity.

Edwards is clearly a very good basketball player and dynamic scorer, but if we’re building next season’s roster around him as the clear #1 I think we’re still a middle-of-the-pack AAC team.
if instead he is our sixth man (as I think was always Hodge’s intention) and our second-third leading scorer I think were in a title hunt (assuming some roster continuity)
give me JE averaging 12-15pts on around 10 shots a night than 20ppg on 15-20 (or 22 like last night)
Yes, I wasn't trying to advocate he be the leader. I mentioned to @Big Z a ton of times where I thought him and TP as a duo would be top of the conference.
